Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

Bummer!!!! I was looking so forward to Hovis today! Tried his FB link, and that didn’t work either. Incidentally, I am having the same problem trying to e-mail the HprseandMan e-mail I get every day. At least I can forward the link, and that works, but not so with Hovis. Maybe someone can contact them over there, and they can fix it?
@Donna Zimmerman–Congratulations on your perseverance and being our eyes and ears on the ground, so to speak. What a wonderful memory you just made, despite hobbling along (boy, do I have experience with that!) Z-hugs.

Dear Kathy.I am late today, have been searching for Hovis.I went on the Bransby site and found their twitter but no news there.Lovely video of the rescued Mr Nibbles though.I haven’t had much time to visit the Dyfi,it’s a lovely quiet day so maybe…Glesni caught a massive flounder yesterday.Fubu seems better I manage to access his videos OK loved him watching his DVD.I am not on FB so can only access the public pages. One of Zoe’s friends Rocky is thinking of leaving,as an old dog he doesn’t get much comments, seems it’s only a world for the young!!
So glad to see Joey back to his normal self I miss seeing his videos, looks as if he was enjoying himself with Tom.Marty looked so cute with his nanner and all those plates on his cage. Now I have to visit the rest.Have a great Friday.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Missing Hovis! It’s not the same without him. Will look for Mr. Nibbles’s video. You have to admire the ospreys for their fishing expertise! Glad to hear Fubu is better. I always hold my breath when I go to check on him! Too bad about Rocky thinking of leaving. He has over 20,00 likes, though. Guess people will have to start commenting more! Joey has a very close bond with Tom. Nice to watch them interacting. I enjoyed the pic of Marty and his nanner, too. He gave some very good financial abvice, too! Have a great Friday and weekend. I have Pilates this morning and then I’m having lunch at Don Jose’s with my good friend Angela. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

HOVIS FANS: Another try at reaching Hovis (got this one from his FB page where there were many worried peeps until somebody found it). It worked for me, but I won’t know until I actually paste it in here whether it will work a second time – here’s hoping!

Thanks for keeping us updated! Loved seeing Z Princess. She’s going to be so tall. And royal looking, of course. :) Just like her beautiful mother.
It doesn’t surprise me at all to read that Zenyatta’s fan base is still so large. There isn’t a day goes by that I don’t think of her. From the very first time I saw her she became a part of my life. Now, she’ll always live in my heart.
It’s such a joy to be able to peek into her daily life. Thank you so much for sharing her!
Love,
Stel

@Sandy–whew!!! Thanks so much. We can always call on you for all things technical. I’m hoping it wasn’t anything but a temporary glitch, and that we won’t have the problem again next week, If so, we’ll know whom to call……….
We can never get enough of Hovis. Can you just imagine what he would do if he were to spy Zenny???. He would be uncontrollable for sure.

Del Mar Presents Stakes DoubleHeader Sunday
Del Mar Newsletter Friday August 15 2014 Excerpts
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will feature a stakes doubleheader Sunday, presenting the 43rd running of the Grade III $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap and the 20th running of the $150,000 Solana Beach Handicap.
The Rancho Bernardo ‘Cap, a 6 ½ furlong dash carded as the fourth race, drew a field of six rapid older fillies and mares, including the defending champion, the brilliant Reneesgotzip (Corey Nakatani), making her first start since November when she was second, beaten a half-length by Mizdirection, in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Among those opposing Reneesgotzip will be the classy Judy the Beauty, who will be conceding a pound to her rival as the 125-pound highweight. Mike Smith has the mount on Judy the Beauty, a three-time major stakes winner who will be making her Del Mar debut. The daughter of Ghostzapper has won seven of 16 career starts and $1,022,122.
The Solana Beach Handicap, occupying the eighth-race spot on the program, attracted ten California-bred older fillies and mares for the one-mile test over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
Co-highweights at 122 pounds are Kathleen Rose (Maldonado) and Doinghardtimeagain (Smith). Kathleen Rose was beaten a neck by Parranda in the Royal Heroine at Santa Anita in late June, while Doinghardtimeagain comes into the race off a disappointing sixth in the recent Grade I Clement L. Hirsch Stakes. In her previous effort, she won the Great Lady M. at Los Alamitos

Dear Max.Hovis’ diary is up on the H&H website now,I don’t know what happened this morning.I expect his new book will be out for Christmas.John Gosden is worried about the heavy rain at Deauville for Kingman,he’s flying back to the UK for York tomorrow then returning to France. It will be a last minute decision as to whether Kingman will run.Western Hymn could only manage 4th today.Wonder how Magician will fare this weekend? The Moose must be free!Niss4Senate.Sheena.

Sheena. Had to take to my bed this afternoon. Long week. Even the jack hammers on the deck could not disturb me.
Spoke to friend today with the horse farm. Told me that he had too many peaches on hand so he gave some of them to one of his horses. The horse loved them. He munched the peach flesh but spit out the pits. As he gained experience, his spitting aim quickly improved. Watch out. My pal says that it’s far safer to give peeled bananas or pears to this horse.
What is this rumor that Karen is writing the diary for Hovis? It’s obvious that Hovis is doing all of the work himself. Can this horse get no credit?
Not sure about Magician. Moosie and his peep was giving the gears to Kingman this week. Says Moosie has more fans and he’s banned.
Free the Moose! Let the Moose out!

Dear Sheena
Thanks for news about the video-arghhh-glad the intruder is gone and all is well with the ospreys and the nest.Just two silhouettes on the perch in the dark now.Was gone most of the day.I looked this morning-5ish your time-and enjoyed seeing Deri and Gynant in the nest with a fish. They look so healthy with lovely shiny feathers and are such a good weight.I left the livestream on for awhile and went to the kitchen. A few minutes later I heard such loud calls that I started to look outside the window, then realized the sounds were coming from the livestream in my office.Smile.
Dear Sandy
Thank-you so much for the update on Hovis. He is so loveable and funny even in hard times,do hope he feels better soon!!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Debbie.I always get withdrawal symptoms when they leave.Emyr said today the youngsters will have to bulk up before they leave on their long flight.Glaslyn are overjoyed to have a chick back, someone said a future husband for Deri! The chicks haven’t been on the nest when I’ve looked in today and I haven’t seen Glesni either but there’s been no mention of her departure yet!I hope you get to enjoy your trip to Scotland next year and maybe visit a panda cub!!Paws crossed!Love and hugs Sheena.

Too bad Mr. Commons, the favorite under Mike Smith did not do so well. Unsure why he was kept at the back of the pack till the end. Then he got startled and reared up when Mike suddenly gave him the go and finished second. John was interviewed saying this race could precede a stakes race next. Maybe not now. Respect Mikey but confused sometimes with the tactics he uses.

Dear Max.Glad you enjoyed your afternoon rest and the decking must be nearly finished now!!I heard there were dreadful floods in the NY suburbs yesterday.I love peaches too except for the pips.Hope your friend wasn’t in spitting distance!I’m having a late night again I’m watching one of my favourite films “The English Patient” it doesn’t end until 2am.We all know Hovis writes his diary as Kauto and Moosie write their own tweets.I was really worried about Hovis this morning thought something had happened to him.I’m ever the pessimist.Free the Moose.Niss4Senate Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Think that episode this am with a Hovis was just a website glitch. Hopefully it is a one time thing.
The deck troops always scatter when there is rain and we had it most of this week. No way that this will be done before October. It’s mysteriously turned into a sunroom. This reminds me of that painter on Murphy Brown who was remodelling her house and never left.
The peach pit spitting horse takes aim at any nearby moving target. He snorts with happiness when he hits someone. My friend is nevertheless spending more time with the horses. His better half was upset to learn that her special order cat food was being given by him to the feral cat population on the farm. Who knew that this food at $30.00 for a small bag was for the snobby house cat? Live and learn is what I say.
Free the Moose!

August 16 Cherokee Devotional
Some people claim to have no need of solitude. Others insist on privacy, a time away from everything to get a better perspective. Most of us want our moments of quiet-but we want to decide when they are to be. We want the u tse li dv solitary hour as long as it has a spirit and aliveness. It is in the quiet times that we build our strengths and know we have something to rely on. Solitude is not withdrawal into a place where no one and no sound can penetrate. It is a sweet moment of peace with or without other people that lets us recenter and reset the rhythm of the mind, body and spirit. It is wisdom to stay close to the solitude of nature to keep us young and pliable.
Old Lakota was wise…he kept his youth close to its softening influence.
