Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

The video is priceless, Momma Z gets the ladies moving out to pasture once all are loose; and then Princess Z gets all the foals moving out after the mares. Priceless, Momma Z’s little imitator.

Dear Sheena:
Maybe Glesni is waiting for better weather to make her journey. Thank you for the video. Wow, she really got wet; poor baby. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc and all the Sweeties

Glesni may be waiting for Moose to return her text message. There is plenty of room in that barn. Moose has enough saved to buy some fish for her. If not, his many fans would donate so that a bird can eat. I would.

Dear Sheena and Judy and all osprey followers
I had an interesting experience talking to one of the team at the Dyfi Osprey Project .He was on the camera and zoomed in on Glesni for me before the rain.Deri was also on the perch and he moved the camera to her as well.
I complimented them and said how much I had enjoyed the info and Livestream.
I misinterpreted” Glesni is on the Dyfi” to mean but Monty isn’t and was afraid something had happened to him. Now I am up to speed.Monty is fine.
The gentleman explained that Glesni leaves first because after brooding and protecting the nest she is not as fit as Monty-a head start will benefit her.
Happy to hear we may have Monty and the chicks for about 3 more weeks.
Goodnight to you and all your loved ones,
Debbie

Happy Birthday, dear Mario!!! We all owe you a debt of gratitude for your wonderful care of our national treasure. You and Zenny really racked up the frequent flier miles. Hope you’ve had a wonderful day.
@Trina–thank you so much for remembering.

Zenyatta is still the most beautiful girl in the world! Princess Z is starting to look like her too. Can’t wait for the October piece. Bloodhorse did a nice posting on John and Coz, who I have dubbed,The Nipster, because he likes to bite.

Charles was in a video when Coz was a foal and he talked about all the stable hands having bruises from his “nibbles”.

I met Coz & John today! I brought, Stephanie, my 15-yr. old niece to the main track at Saratoga today for what we thought was “Breakfast with the Jockeys” & found out that they weren’t holding it this year like they die last year.

Dear Donna:
Oh, how wonderful, you got to meet COZ and John. What a great memory for you and your niece. Love and Hugs, JB

Sorry, I wasn’t finished yet & I pushed the wrong button… Anyways, after leaving Saratoga’s main track, we went across Union Ave. to the Oklahoma Training Track & Horse Haven where John has his horses stabled. After a little detective work, I was able to find out which barn John & his horses were in & Stephanie & I took the sort of long walk over there. The walk was long for me because I think that I had torn the cartilege in my left knee again a couple of weeks or so ago, so we had to keep stopping so I could rest it for a second before moving some more. No matter how much I hurt, I was bound & determined that I was going to make it over to John’s barn to meet him & Coz!
Anyways, we finally made it to John’s barn & Tug was hitched to a rail with his saddle on. A few of the men were working around the barn area working & I was surprised that none of them stopped us and asked us what we were doing there. Coz was in his stall about halfway down the shedrow watching something outside his back window. I tried softly calling his name, but there was something that was very interesting to him out that back window… He finally turned around to face us after several minutes and I was able to snap some pictures. Coz is really handsome! Even though I wanted to, there was no way I was going to try to pet Coz after seeing the videos of him trying to bite his handlers!
Stephanie & I then went to John’s office & we introduced ourselves and we chatted with him for a little while. John wasn’t sure if he was going to take Coz to the track today because the footing was getting deep with the heavy rain we had again last night, so we only got to see him in his stall. When John was ready to go out with one of the other horses, he had one of the men working for him give a ride back to the parking area in a golf cart.
Thank you, John for taking the time to speak with my niece & me & I will be forever grateful for the ride back in the cart!

What a wonderful experience!!! From everything that I have ever read or seen about John Shirreffs is what a kind man he seems to be so it is really no surprise he was nice to you and your niece for visiting his barn. That would just be so cool. Thank you for sharing that with us. Wow.
Max
Donna. Thank you for this personal account of your visit with Coz and John. It sounds very special. Like to hear these stories. Look after that knee.

Thanks for that, Donna, it’s the personal stories that mean the most! I was so glad I got to visit Barn 55 last November, before Hollywood Park closed down. I can relate to your injury, as I have a torn meniscus in my knee, so was struggling just to walk down there. John and Mario were already in N.Y., but we met Steve and Carmen (who was very much missing Mario), and I took a good look around John’s office, and all the pictures. Then we walked some more (and I had to rest awhile) to go see Lava Man is his barn, and I got to feed him carrots — won’t be forgetting that!

It’s Friday but no Hovis. Looks like he’s now unavailable to us in the ROTW. The link is attached in the hope that things change later today.
Happy Friday to all. Free that Moose.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Peeps on his FB page can’t find it either so it’s not just us in the ROTW. Earlier in the week, his Mum posted that she was away on business so maybe she just didn’t get it done on time. She was concerned about being away because reports from the barn seemed to indicate that perhaps he was NOT malingering over the weekend. Seemed to be a shoulder issue which I think he has had before. Guess we just have to stay tuned.

Man, Max…what a bummer!!!
Happy Friday, free the Moose!

August 15 Cherokee Devotional
Most people do not intend to get caught in a bad cause. We simply get swept along with the tide. It can happen because we want to get ahead fast-but it more likely happens out of ignorance. It has been said that we have the capacity to make heaven a hell, or a heaven of hell. We’ve been known to do both-though it is a matter of choice. According to the Cherokee, it is plain to see that the place called heaven, ga lv la di-tso sv, is the ultimate choice. We have had to deal with situations that we didn’t choose. They were simply piled on us and we tried to help. But here we must be wise. We can’t allow ourselves to be drawn into a cause that is not our responsibility, and that we may not be well informed enough to handle.
I have been trying to seize the promises which they made me…but I cannot find them.

Hello, I was wondering where do you buy halters for your horses?
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Lora:
Here’s a couple of Saddlery websites where we have bought different equipment and treats for the horses. We also use a local tack shop. Don’t know where you live, but you might want to check in the yellow pages in your area for Equine Supplies. Love and Hugs, JB
