Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

Patience key for Cozmic One
By Leslie Knauf | Bloodhorse.com August 14, 2014
Champion mare and 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta never set foot in New York or in the upstate town of Saratoga Springs, but her firstborn son Cozmic One arrived at the renowned spa city’s legendary racetrack last month to spend the summer learning about life as a racehorse.

What a terrific article about our Cozmic One! Thanks Bluegrass Girl!
sue and tony
Bluegrass Girl, thank you for the link to a great article on Coz! John surely knows how to get the best from a horse and his patience is so evident throughout this article. Isn’t it great that Ann has a huge picture of Coz and his mom posted on a wall in his stall?
He is being treated with the same care and concern Queen Z received…it will be very interesting to follow his progress.

Dear BGG:
Love this article and JS’s description of COZ. Love and Hugs, JB

The mother-daughter grazing photo by Anne Eberhart — it’s amazing how much the Princessa looks like her mother. Cannot wait to see her in training…

I, too, also have tear filled eyes seeing our most Beautiful Queen and Prinzess. Then reading the article how John Shirreffs trains Cozmic One makes even more tears flow with delight. Mr. John certainly has the patience of a saint. I wish I could be his shadow and learn his extraordinary methods. Also, wouldn’t mind being one of those walkers for the Queen and the Prinzess. Once again, the Z team has made my day. Thank you for everything you do. Hope everyone has a wonderful day, I know mine will be fantastic, having seen our dear Zenyatta and her family.

Hi everybody!
You know….I just noticed that the marking on Princess Z’s hind leg and the corresponding hind are almost identical!

Dear Abigail:
Yes, same size and shape. Z Princess is looking more like Mama Z every day. Imagine if she inherits her Mama’s running style and talent. Wow! Love and Hugs, JB

So wonderful to see the QUEEN MUM of Lane’s End lead the procession with young, Z PRINCESS, at her side. It’s hard to believe we’ve approaching the 5th anniversary of Zenyatta’s BC win. She’s still the biggest draw the industry has to offer. Long may she reign!

Here we are…four years after our beloved Queen retired from the track an she still makes front page news! I love knowing we have more video coming and just as importantly we continue to be updated on Zenny’s offspring. She has always been a force to be reckoned with…she remains in our hearts and minds which is such a gift in itself.
Thanks to LE, Team Z and Bloodhorse for this special offering!

Happy birthday, Mario!
To Mario
(August 14, 2011)
No one was closer to the Queen
Than Mario Espinoza.
A special man, a special mare—
They made a magical pair.
Zenyatta blossomed under Mario’s care
And became the fairest of the fair
With dapples agleam,
Glowing from within, it would seem,
And a contentment in her eye
That all could spy.
We can never thank Mario enough
For polishing this diamond-in-the-rough
In every way
Till her brilliance outshone
The sun and the stars every day
And throughout the world
Her beauty—both inner and outer–was known.

Dear Trina:

JudyB. My favorite memory of Mario is in a video of a plane ride to Kentucky. He was sitting next to Z while she was in her stall and she was munching away on some hay. Both were taking it all in stride. All calm. Happy Birthday and many more to a loyal Team Z guy.

Dear Max, Sandy and Z Fans:
Max, I found the video you were referring to of Zenny having a snack on the plane with Mario sitting right there with her. I had saved it to my favorites and I’ll upload it and post it here. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks Judy – you are amazing!! Wonder who the lucky lady was who got to be that close and do the filming?
lauraj_cincinnati
Sandy, are you referring to the “Arrival in Kentucky” video? Pretty sure Ann Moss herself shot that. Those are Ann’s and Dottie’s voices you hear gushing over her.

Thanks Judy, for that link — I don’t know how I ever missed that video, but I had never seen it! was great to see not only Mario, but Steve and Frank, Dottie, John’s voice, and Ann’s voice, and even recognized Barb Livingston in one brief shot towards the end.

Thanks to Trina for the poem and the reminder. Meeting Mario was one of the highlights of my trip to Barn 55 after the 2012 BC. He just grinned and grinned as we greeted him like the celebrity he was (in our view anyway). Happy Birthday Mario. Hope you are in California with your family.
