Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

Dear Cappers an Z Fans:
V E Day, the beautiful Chestnut by English Channel, just won the Travers Stakes. I bet him to show in the capping contest. Wish I was brave enough to bet him to win. I liked him because he has a closing style and because he shares the same Grand Sire as Charlie, Deptuty Minister. Congrats to VE Day and J. Castellano. Love and Hugs, JB

Glad the Kid had a shot at it. He ran 4th, had him for show. Story of my cappin history this season.

Dear Ann:
I like KC’s running style too; another closer. At least he earned part of the purse money. You still have a chance for points in the Classic tomorrow. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Peggy (N)
The remembrance for Secretariat’s groom Eddie Sweat was so well done and never were there words more true than his statement . “Spend time with ’em, Show em that you’re trying to help ’em,Love’em.That’s what you gotta do” to say just a few that brought tears to my eyes. I wish all horses could have that, the world needs that.
He was the best,a few like Mario share his philosophy and they all deserve so much credit for the difference they make in these horses lives.Secretariat and Eddie are together again, but then-Eddie knew that Big Red really never left him. What a reunion it will be!!
Thanks Peggy,Debbie
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Debbie
The Grooms they are such unsung hero’s. Eddie was such a hero. You’ve just got to see the new release of the Eddie And Red Barn photo. I have been crying a lot this week from just remembering Eddie’s life because he had a lot of pain which I never knew about. He also lost almost all of his Secretariat memorabilia in a fire. I hope lots of people remember him for the hero he was. He so loved the horses.
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca
What happened? Did I miss the memo about his death?
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Heidi:
This is the Wiki on Eddie Sweat, Big Red’s Groom. He passed in 1998 (nine years after Secretariat passed) at the age of 59 and Peggy’s Remembrance of him is from Secretariat’s website. He would have been 75 this year. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Debbie.I was amazed to see Blue 24 at the nest yesterday.I really thought she had already migrated, she was determined to see Glesni leave.I really hope Glesni will return earlier next year to claim her nest or there will be drama at the Dyfi again.
We get the national hunt(jumps) season during the winter,a lot of super races to look forward to.Have you ever seen the Grand National that’s 4 and a 1/2 miles long.I am sure you must have heard of Red Rum who won the race 3 times in the 70’s.
Deri was having lunch when I looked in today and Monty was on the perch with Gwynant there was a lot of calling!!Hope you are enjoying your day it’s nearly 11.30pm over here.Love and hugs Sheena.

Oh, and did you make the Stud muffins today. Tell Charlie and Hudson and all the sweethearts we love them.

Dear Peggy:
I will go to Secretariat’s web page and look for it.
I made the Stud Muffins yesterday and brought them to the horses yesterday. I was able to give them to Hudson, but Charlie was in the back paddock and I couldn’t visit with him. I froze the Muffins and will bring the horses some more next week. I will definitely give Charlie, Hudson and all the sweethearts your message. Love and Hugs, JB

Debbie. Big Trouble is out of action and on the disabled list until probably next spring. It’s his stablemate The Big Beast who won today at Saratoga. It’s a win and you’re in to the Breeders Cup. He also collected $300K to pay the food bills to maintain his handsome beastliness. The Beast is still growing. Bravo Beast!

A baker’s dozen of Group/Graded winners for Hard Spun
Son Big John B brings career total to 13 for his sire
Darley News Saturday August 23, 2014
Hard Spun’s first crop of runners had already put their sire in the record books. After two seasons of racing from this first group, no sire had been represented by more Stakes from their first crop. His initial group of runners now reflects 21 Group/Graded or Stakes winner with Big John B becoming his latest added-money winner in the G2 Del Mar Handicap at Del Mar on August 23.
In his first-ever Stakes start, Big John B was allowed to settle in mid-pack by jockey Mike Smith through six furlongs. Once past that point, he urged the big dark bay or brown five-year-old to pick up the pace and he responded immediately, taking over the lead as the field entered the stretch, while never looking back.

Beast fans. News from Saratoga is that The Big Beast has to be accompanied to the winner’s circle by an entourage which includes his pony. Recently the Beast learned to rear up, which he now likes to do. He’s so big that he could hurt someone. In one of his appearances in the circle, he broke free. Beast on the loose. The pony keeps things calm. Has Big D returned? I love this Beast.
Free the Moose! Wild and free forever.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Watched the race yesterday Max and cheered him on. He is amazing, and I knew you would be so happy. Interesting story about his winner’s circle entourage.
Ann NC
Oh my, Beast. New tricks are fun, but not that.
Glad his pony is close by! Be good Beasty Boy!
Am thrilled for Anthony and all connections.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Maybe The Beast is not so well “behaved” after all; he’s channeling Big D. We may yet see him “walking” two grooms. Love that Boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Looks like the Beast is a handful because of his size. He’s only 3 so that he is probably still growing. Wow! Might need more than two grooms. Dutrow says that everyone loves the Beast. The pony who goes into the winner’s circle with him is Tony’s own pony. Pony looks tiny in comparison, but the Beast lets him lead.
Free the Moose!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, quite true, he’s still growing. Wow! What a race record he has so far; five starts: 3 wins, 1 second and 1 third. Three different tracks. What a magnificent Boy he is. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. The news is beginning to trickle out about the Beast. Tony D says that the Beast is already 17.1. That’s huge for a sprinter. He’s usually first out of the gate, maybe because it’s too cramped in there for him? He broke really well yesterday as usual but was held back by Javier. The Beast was the least experienced horse in that race, but you’d never know it by watching him gain ground. What a performance. He know how to do it. Tony also said that the Beast gets loose almost every day. They need a lot of peeps just to keep track of him. Most of the talent in the pedigree seems to be from his momma. He’s got The Ministrel on the distaff. Don’t come much finer than The Ministrel. Sheena will know him.
Free the Moose! Wild and free. That’s you too, Beast.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.You must be thrilled with the Big Beast!I didn’t know Tapestry was so superbly bred by Galileo out of a Danehill mare maybe autumn will be her time. She’s not a big girl.Go Toast and Ebby! The Moose must be free!Fly Glesni Fly!Sheena
Max
Sheena. Yes, I am supremely happy with the Beast. This is his first off the pace win. He usually wires it. I love the Beast so much that I would like him even if he went Moose.
Tapestry is very well bred. Still smile when I see her dam’s name. My comment however about fillies in the fall was meant for Tagi. She should run even better in October. Tagi, rest and recover for another day.
Good luck to Toast and the Ebbster. Cannot understand why Toast cannot find a race in the UK or Ireland. There are plenty of them. Top class too all of them.
Free the Moose. Give Glesni a good Sunday dinner. Wild and free.

Nothing saves the day so much as a good word. And nothing has been misused as often. There is power in a word, whether we read it, speak it or hear it. And we command and are commanded by the word. We scatter, we call forth, and we comfort. Words are tools, weapons, both good and bad medicine-but very beautiful when used lovingly. The word, or ka ne tsv in Cherokee, is power to help heal, or make sick people sicker by negative talk around them. The word gives confidence when it builds rather than destroys.
