Dear fans,
It’s rare that these blog posts aren’t Zenyatta-related, but this weekend we’re Team G!
If you’ve been following Kentucky Derby news, you know that Gormley will run tomorrow with Victor Espinoza aboard. Learn more about Gormley here, and tune in tomorrow at 6:34 pm ET to watch the race.
We wish the Derby contenders good luck and safe rides all around!
Go Gormley!
Donna Z
Even though the blog goes by Pacific time, it’s already Monday here in upstate NY.
I want to be the first to wish Jerry Moss a Very Happy Birthday! It’s an honor to share my birthday with you.
Wouldn’t it be neat if Zenyatta’s foal decided to come a little early & make her/his grand entrance today?! That would make it one of the best birthdays ever! Jerry, I would love it if baby came today as thanks to you for all you do for Momma Z & her fans. If baby isn’t ready to come today, I hope that Mother’s Day will be THE DAY baby comes for Grandma Ann.
I will spend my birthday quietly at home with my dogs, Amy & Cappy. I also schedule their annual vet checkup visit for my birthday every year. It always makes me happy to do something good to take care of my fur kids for all the wonderful love they give me every day.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Donna Z,
? HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! ? Hope you have a lovely day and many, many more wonderful birthdays, too.
Remember to enjoy some cake and ice cream today! ? ?

Happy Birthday to Jerry Moss. Thanks to him for the kindness he and Ann have shown Zenyatta’s fans. They are very special owners.
Does anyone know how Night Prowler did?
Barbara Wood
Thank you, Team Z. I am always in your corner. Was pulling for Gormley and Patch, but I am just grateful there were no calamities with such a huge field. Our thoughts now turn to you, Zenny, as we await your baby-to-be. Hugs to all.

A very Happy 91st Birthday to our National Treasure Sir David Attenborough.Enjoy your day Sir.

Dear Sheena,
We’ve watched Sir David Attenborough on television for years. I’m amazed at all of the places he’s been and ‘trekked’. He’s truly amazing! We’ve learned so much from him about the animal kingdom (and the human one). Wishing him a very wonderful birthday celebration! with love, Elizabeth

Shirleeinindy just to let you know, Night Prowler came in 2nd. Now we can start pacing in earnest. How about May 14 Mother’s Day for Zenny’s foal to appear? With her flare for show biz that would be just like her. Fingers crossed.

Dear BGG, Thank you so much and especially for the pic. Just love this boy so much and what a beautiful picture.
Am just over the moon about this news. Love Javier, but believe this is a match made in heaven. My Gunnevera and Mike, wonderful match up win or loose. I am hoping for a win though. LOL.

Dear Peggy:
Happy for Gunn. He will be well cared for by Mikey. Godspeed; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Judy,
Looks like both Mike and Gary will be in the Preakness. So happy for both of them. We will see if Royal Mo is what we think he is.
Also, I remember you talking about Lookin For Lee a lot last week.
Peggy,
Not bad for Night Prowler. Can’t expect too much after a layoff. Congrats to him.
judy berube
Dear Shirlee:
Yes, we’ll see soon.
I bet Two four horse 50 cent Trifecta Boxes in the Derby with Always Dreaming, Lookin at Lee, Hence and McCraken and Classic Empire as the fourth choices. I also did one with Lookin at Lee, Gunnevera, Hence and Patch. Love Lookin at Lee’s closing style and, of course, that Cashmere Chestnut coat. I really fell in love with Hence too; he’s a big, gorgeous Chestnut boy. Congrat’s again on your win. Love and Hugs, JB
judy berube
Oops:
Shirlee, Lee’s a Bay, was thinking of Hence I guess. Sorry about that. Love and Hugs, JB

Yes, very exciting news that Gunnevera will run in the Preakness. I’ll be there too. Just not running. Lol.

I thought Gormley ran a good race, when you take into consideration the large field and the track conditions. Glad he came out of it sound, he is going to still win a lot of races. Now we must focus on Zenny and her upcoming delivery, praying for a safe and easy delivery and a healthy foal. Also pulling for Royal Mo in the Preakness.

Just some thoughts on the Derby. Did anyone notice the out pony – the one marked like an Appaloosa? He was huge! Do you think he is a purebred? I have never seen one that big before! And poor Thunder Snow! That is another sight I have never seen before at the Derby! Actually at any race. Happy birthday to Jerry Moss. And good thoughts to Zenny and her baby!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Pam,
I did notice that pony, and boy, was he big and handsome! He almost looked like a draft horse of some type with Appaloosa markings. He sure is a beauty.
I think you could say that Thunder Snow “pitched a fit”! ? He was definitely not having anything to do with racing that day. Glad he checked out okay physically.
Have a great week!
Hugs and Love
pam homeier
Thunder Snow’s jockey might consider a sideline career in rodeo! lol

Wasn’t that a great save by jockey Christophe Soumillon. (Belgian)

Look under tab Horses to see how successful he has been..
Maybe having ridden hurdles helped him in his Thunder Bird episode.

Thank goodness he held on!
Thunder and that hissy fit…oh my.

Dear Pam:
That Paint/Appaloosa?? was beautiful; loved his braided mane and tail. Yes, TS made his feelings known quite clearly. He wanted no part of that surface I think. Love and Hugs, JB

Hi there – the Pony’s name is Harley. Here is a story I wrote about him Hope you like it… https://www.americasbestracing.net/lifestyle/2015-meet-harley-the-magnificent
Marshall (NC Broad)
Hi Julie,
Thank you so much for posting your article from America’s Best Racing on Harley.
Hooray for Harley!! You wrote a wonderful piece about him, and he is indeed magnificent. I enjoyed reading about him and his owner very much. Harley is the complete package — tall, handsome AND sweet!
Thanks again!
Cheers and Hugs

American SugarBush Draft Horse!
I must remember that new breed since I would imagine it will become quite popular since Harley is such a stunningly gorgeous horse with a wonderful temperament. Sounds like a winning combination.
Go Harley!

Julie,
Lovely story. Good health and long life to Harley.

Jerry hope you have the most wonderful Happy Birthday.

Aidan will make a decision about Churchill’s next race later this week after a chat with the owners.I would prefer the St James’s Palace than the Derby but I am not the owner!Thunder Snow is fine after his bucking bronco display on Saturday. He is normally a placid horse and there is no real explanation for his strange behaviour.Maybe sliding out of the stalls on the slop frightened him?
judy berube
Dear Sheena:
Yes, that’s what I think; he probably didn’t like the feel of the sloppy surface. Love and Hugs, JB

Biscuits: Mind Your Biscuits Catering. Have your credit cards ready. Buy in bulk. Get discounts. We deliver world wide.
Gun Runner: Biscuits? Isn’t hello enough? Gun Runner here.
Biscuits: It’s you, Gun. I’m just doing some business on the side from my stall. Have to watch out for the future. Horse enterprise in the land of the free.
Gun Runner: Biscuits, you amaze me. What did you think of the KD results?
Biscuits: Good for NY. The owners are from here. I’m not so thrilled. That Dreaming guy is now ahead of me in the ratings.
Gun Runner: Lee got second and now he’s cornered all of the attention in my barn. It’s all about him.
Biscuits: Face it. We’re only as good as our last races and that’s March.
Gun Runner: For sure. I’m training up a storm for the Stephen Foster.
Biscuits: Still no word on my next race. What’s your take on the Preakness?
Gun Runner: They say that Royal Mo will be in it.
Biscuits: He’s closely connected to Zenyatta?
Gun Runner: Biscuits, I never have to explain anything to a fellow chestnut.
Biscuits: Neigh!

Dear Max,

Happy Belated Birthday to Jerry Moss. I did not know it was your birthday so a belated set of wishes to you. I agree and thank you, also, for all the Zenyatta info you send to her fans.
I can hardly wait to hear of a safe delivery and healthy new foal. I am so excited. Hugs and Prayers to all of the team.
Donna Z
Dear Marshall & Sheena,
Thank you for the birthday wishes. It’s neat to share my birthday with such a nice person as Jerry Moss.
Both Amy & Cappy got a clean bill of health today from Dr. Mike. I found out today that Dr. Mike used to vet race horses at Saratoga before he went into small animal practice.
My best friend sent me a stethescope (sp?) for my birthday so I can listen to my dogs’ heartbeats. Very cool! Jamie is a large animal vet tech near Ocala, FL. The practice she works for does not have any TB farms as clients, though.
Gormley, I think you did really well in the Derby. The race is very hard to win with all the traffic & the crowds. You should be proud of yourself; I am proud of you. Glad you came out of the race ok.
I am looking forward to seeing Royal Mo in the Preekness. Hopefully, he will have better luck & a smaller field to deal with. I love his daddy, Uncle Mo.
Momma Z, I am thinking about you all the time & am excited about your baby’s upcoming birth. I hope that Ann is with you now so you can spend the rest of the waiting time together. My prayers & thoughts are with you for a smooth birth & a healthy foal.
sheena.davies(wales)

For all of you who might live in the Washington/Baltimore area. They have done wonders with Laurel. It is clean and updated and a nice place to watch the races. We were in the dining room and had a great view of the track and a TV at our table to watch all the off site races. The ticket seller I encounter were nice and friendly for the most part. I would recommend it for a day at the races. They do need to work on their food prep and serving. One carving station manned by 2 people for perhaps 300 or more people.

Team Z, I watched the Derby race and was hoping that Gormley would finish no. 1 with Patch right behind. I guess it was not meant to be with a big field of horses and a very sloppy track. I believe Gormley came in 9th which is not shabby considering the track and all horses and jockeys came away with no major injuries. Yippee.
Good luck with your racing Gormley!! Sally B
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Sorry this is a bit late, Sally, but I hope you had a great day. I got so caught up in trying to figure out the Derby that I’m behind with everything (and all of that effort did me no good at all!!!!).
