Zenyatta will not be bred this year. She continues to do well and is looking great with her new paddock buddy—even sharing her cookies. We’ll post more photos of them soon!
We appreciate all of the love and support her fans have shown. While we understand the concern the public has for Zenyatta’s well-being, we ask that you do not contact Lane’s End Farm to inquire about Zenyatta or her foals. We do our best to be generous with information and to share Zenyatta’s life with her fans through this website. Zenyatta.com will continue to be the source of official updates on all things Zenyatta.
Regina Lockhart
Thank you so much for the updates!! I am glad she is doing well and enjoying her treats!!!! Much love to our Queen and her family!
Jenelle Black
Thank you for sharing with us. How about teaching her Dressage during her time off? She’s the type of gal that needs a job, and the conditioning could only help her to carry foals, too. Ann, maybe bring her to Shannon Peters in San Diego and learn to ride her?
Debra A Turnbull
Are you serious??? Bring her all the way from Kentucky to San Diego so this Peters can learn to ride her? I’m sure KY has serious dressage riders there too. Do you have any idea how stressful dressage training is?
Why do people always think horses need to be doing jobs for people? She has everything (plus some) she could want and need where she is now and she has earned a ton of money for her owners. She deserves a life of ease and raising her foals. She is a way too valuable of a mare to be sent away for someone to ride!
Laura Sanchez
Thank you for taking such impeccable loving generous care of her and all the Lane’s End mares and foals. And thank you so much for being an ambassador to the world of Thoroughbreds and sharing stories and photos.
Kathy
Dear Team Z,
It’s alway very reassuring to know that Zenyatta is doing well! She deserves the year off and we look forward to seeing her and her new buddy!
Thank you, as always, for sharing with us!
Roberta
I don’t think she should be bred again, period
She too could have died
They need to just retire her..
She hasn’t had luck with her babies, unfortunately
She’s lost 3 babies, and 2 others that did nothing on the track
Coz has a new job with a lovely young rider
I don’t know what happened to Zirconic
Just retire her already please, she deserves it
TBpartner43
This kind of post is exactly why owners and farms are reluctant to share their horses with the fans. In this case, it is highly unlikely that you or I
have one ounce the knowledge that these folks possess.
Robin Alexander
Amen…..
Ann Mitchell Adam
TBpartner ~ You are absolutely CORRECT.
Tiffany
Yes, this is the kind of post that deters people from sharing. Beeeding horses is always a risk. Zenyatta has the best care any horse could have. Keep your ugly comments to yourself.
Jillian
But even with the best care any horse could have she has still lost foals. I agree let the poor girl rest a mama can only take so many loses and pregnancies
Dakota Winds
Horses are not humans, they don’t process stuff the same as we do, stop putting human emotions and thought logic on animals.
Melly
I agree 1000% with retiring Zenyatta from breeding – immediately. You do realize she’s 14 years old, don’t you; those who have viciously attacked a true fan who is merely speaking the truth, at long last! Wear those rose-colored glasses if you must, but allow those of us who understand that first and foremost this is a business and profit is what Zenyatta’s breeding is about. Not how intelligent, how incredibly sweet she is, or gentle and giving. She is all those things in spades, and one of the greatest thoroughbred champions ever(!!!); and that is also why she deserves so much better for the rest of her days on this earth. I just hope you all wake up from the dream that her welfare is top priority.
Lori Whorff
Completely agree with TBpartner43 and Tiffany!
Robin Alexander
Amen….

Seriously, Roberta.
Zenyatta has the best care possible. And, is relatively young for a broodmare. I’m sure more foals will be in her future.
Now, with regard to her foals. It’s extremely rare that a great race mare will produce a foal that will be her equal. It is about preservation of the bloodline. And, several generations down you may see the her lineage has produced a champion.
The fact she’s happy, healthy and enjoying her retirement as a broodmare should be enough for her fans.
AMG
Well then, Roberta … pony up the money and buy her.
Until then, not your horse and the people that adore her, care for her, invest in her will make the appropriate decisions.
Rita from Georgia
I agree that she should not be bred again for health reasons. She has had 6 foals already and the last two losses were terrible and I don’t think trying to get another foal would be worth losing her. She is a peoples horse. She should be made available to her fans to see. People love her so much and would not and could not hurt her in any way. I do agree that her owners and doctors also the people at Lanes End know about her needs and about her care. This is just my opinion and I know the right things will be done for her. I love Zen so much.
BetsyB
Rita — Most of Zenyatta’s losses have nothing to do with her health. The War Front filly died in a paddock accident after she’d been weaned and separated from Zenyatta, who then would have had no idea about the death. The War Front colt aspirated meconium during delivery; again, nothing she had control over and not a sign of health issues for her. She also had a healthy filly before this recent aborted pregnancy. As to her being “a people’s horse,” she’d have never come into that role had the owners not bred a mare and then taken her to the track to be part of the thoroughbred racing scene. Saying she has to be put under glass for her fans denies how she got the fans’ attention in the first place. She’s a successful racehorse whose could prove to be a successful broodmare but for this run of bad luck, not bad health. Your “love” for her notwithstanding, the owners will do best by her and have the right to make those decisions, not her fans.
Ann Mitchell Adam
BetsyB ~ So glad to hear from another realistic fan of Zenyatta’s! I would also add that the last ?absorbed?? non-delivery of a foal could very likely have been caused by a bacterial infection acquired from external factors which would have nothing to do with Zenyatta’s ability to bare foals. She has some of the top owners’ & caretakers’ in the racing world and there is much to be learned and practiced in breeding by those in this sport/business. Most already involved need a lot more education.
Secretariat
All Zenyatta fans, whether we agree or disagree, have the ultimate right to voice our own differing opinions in this country, whether here in this forum or elsewhere; just as you feel you had the right to viciously attack those who don’t agree with you that Zenyatta’s best interests are a top concern by the breeders. Really?? You truly believe that they are putting the health of this great thoroughbred before their business goals???
Unless you are working for the breeders it makes little sense that you feel you must attack so severely an opinion that differs from yours. I agree 10,000% that this great mare should be retired from breeding. The risk to her life goes up exponentially as she ages without birthing foals even as a part of the equation. If fourteen years of age is “relatively young” for a broodmare as you stated, I believe that speaks even more to the misconceptions about the horsebreeding industry by a naive public.
Kristen
My gosh. You would think you own her. Keep your opinions to yourself. When you get your own Thoroughbred mare, you can make all the decisions you want. Until then, you know nothing of the intracies of Zenyatta’s health, Thoroughbreds reproductive nuisances or psychological health of broodmares. You are exactly why owners farms are reluctant to share information on their famous horses.
Roberta Gonzalez
I would like to know how my name got on this post. If you look down on Roberta Gonzalez you can see that I was very much against this post. I want everyone to know this is not me. I don’t know if someone is posting under my name or what. Now I understand why all of a sudden when I post it takes so long to go on, and one time they said they had to check it first. Please just know my feelings are below Roberta Gonzalez. Thank-you!
Terri Zeitz
Roberta decisions about Zenyatta’s care and whether she breeds or not are the decision of the veterinarian and Ann and Jerry Moss.
Lane’s End has given excellent care to Zenyatta. The vet is on call when she is due to deliver. She was given prompt attention and was not in danger because of the care she was given.
Mr. Farrish, who owns Lane’s End, was the ambassador to England and he knows how to treat royalty.
Zenyatta is more than “just a horse” to the Mosses, the vets, and the staff at Lane’s End. She is loved and well cared for.
Please do not advise the Mosses or anyone else how to care for their beloved Queen.
I hope you do not give advice to the Queen of England on how to care for her horses.
Lane’s End has the Queen (Zenyatta) and King (AP Indy) of thoroughbreds. The horses are treated like the royalty that they are.
Allen
Thank You for allowing us to be part of Zenny’s life through this web site. She looks great and I am sure she will enjoy a little R&R. Love You Zenny and Team Z.
Sandra L Frey
Thank you so much for keeping the public informed on Zenyatta. She is loved by many and holds a special place in our hearts. We sure are happy to have her in our midst in Kentucky. Still thinking of her and all connections. Blessings to you all!
Lisa
Still a vision of beauty and grace. What a wonderful ambassador for racing. She deserves the best.!
sheena.davies(wales)

Celeste
Dear Team Zenyatta, Thank you for the beautiful photo and also for your kindness in continuing to share your wonder made with the rest of us who love her so. You have set such high standards in acknowledging and supporting all of Zenny’s fans who are so ardent in our love for her. I am grateful every day for your continuing this site for us, for our pleasure and chances to learn about Zenatta. Thank you, from the depths of my heart. I hope our Queen will enjoy her time off.
Colleen Robbins
She’ll enjoy the time off and be ready and fresh for a new baby early in 2020. She always enjoys her life, regardless if she is care free and single, doing the broodmare dance or raising a new foul. She has done a great job in everything she has been asked to do and is given the best possible care by the Zenyatta Team and Lane’s End.
Michelle
Such a beautiful girl. Glad to hear she’s happy and healthy.
L R Miles
I love that you guys have always put her well being above monetary concerns, starting when she was two years old and hadn’t developed enough to be started racing. The love you have for her always makes my day. Keep the updates and picture coming.
Patti
Thank you for the updates on our girl. So happy she is doing well. I find it a bit odd how much I care for her, having never met her. She’s just magnificent . As always, looking forward to seeing new pictures of her and reading how she is doing.
Lorraine B. Whiteley
I have a Quarter Horse mare who slipped her foal this year after we in SC had a totally unusual very severe long-lasting ice and snow storm and I was devastated and we never really knew what happened to cause it. Then I heard that the great Zenyatta had suffered the same tragedy and I thought to myself, I know that Zenyatta has the best care money can buy or love can give and it still happened, even to her. God’s Will and ways are not known to man and sometimes bad things happen to good people. Thank you for sharing Zenyatta’s life with us. I always look forward to the posts and I surely do enjoy watching Coz as he seems to really enjoy his new career!
Andrea
For heaven’s sake people, stop bothering the nice folks at Lane’s End. They aren’t going to tell you anything about a horse you don’t own. Thank you for the updates. Best wishes for whatever the future holds.
Selena
I second this statement!
Edie Dickenson
Team Z, you know what is best for Zenny. Thank you for always putting her first. And then letting her fans know.
Gloria
Yay, I’m happy Zenyatta’s getting some time off. Thank you for letting the fans know about her life with the news and photos that you share on her website. All is appreciated.
Carole
Thank you for taking such good care of Zenyatta and for sharing her with us. She’s special beyond words.
Terri Zeitz
Thanks for the update. And thanks for your patience with all of Zenny’s fans world wide. We are all so glad and grateful that she did well after her bout with placentitis. She has received excellent care at Lane’s End. What farm has both the Queen (Zenyatta) and King (AP Indy) of Racing other than Lane’s End?
How are Zenny’s hoofs doing? Is she still wearing shoes on her two front hoofs or on both hoofs?
And when does Miss Z 17 leave the farm for further training in Florida at Mayberrys?
Thanks for keeping us informed.
Many thanks and best wishes.
P.S. Keep those Quality Road winning babies coming. Mr. Farrish must be thrilled with him as a sire. And congrats on Honor Codes beautiful new foal.
Stephanie Q
We love our Queen! Can’t wait to hear the D’Oro Girl’s name. I love Lane’s End Farm- they are amazing!
Barbara Wood
Thank you so much for the update. She is looking beautiful, as always. Many have felt that this would be the choice made for her. Hugs to all.
Roberta Gonzalez
We appreciate your updates and know that you love Zenyatta too. Please know that most of us know that she is getting good care, and appreciate your updates when you are very busy. Please ignore any unkind messages as people that just don’t know, and please accept our apologies for their comments. I would like to know about Ziconic, because we don’t know what has happened to him. He was my favorite, right from the beginning when he was born, so beautiful and muscular for a foal. He had so much confidence, and even the people at the farm said he enjoyed working. I know you don’t have any knowledge of him, since he isn’t at the farm, but maybe it can be passed on that we really would like to know what is going to happen to him like they did Coz. It would be greatly appreciated!!
Mary M
Thank you Team Z for continuing to keep us in the loop regarding Queen Z and her foals, we appreciate all the time and work put into the posts and photos…..would love to see the Phenotype combination with Z and Chrome for her next date. Everyone have a beautiful summer!
Terri Bey
Thank you Team Z for the updates on Zenyatta. Glad to see that she is healthy and happy. I wish her and you guys the best. Thanks for mentioning that fans should wait for information from your website, and not call Lanes End.
Lori
Glad to hear she is doing well! I hope she enjoys her break and a lovely summer in the bluegrass. Thank you for any and all updates on our beloved Queen Z ❤️
Linda Daley
Thanks to the Zenyatta team for always looking out for her. No one should second guess them, any decisions they make will be in the best interests of Zenyatta. She will, for me, always & forever be my favorite horse. She is a true & beautiful champion.
Yvettte
Thank you for the update. It is always a joy to hear about her.
darlene sietman
Happy to hear Zenyatta is doing well I hope her fans can visit her while she is taking time off. Thanks for updates what happened to Zenyatts old pasture mate?
Ray Smith
Poor Zenny.. I am so sad about her most recent loss. She doesn’t deserve this issue again. My heart and love go out to this beautiful soul. She is still an inspiration to all people, racing, ornon racing. Just even seeing her joy and happiness on the track, performing both in the paddock, as well as the track, brought out what is truly great in racing.
I’m glad she is ok health wise. She is a magnificent animal, and it’s a shame about her beautiful babies.
I wish I could just fun her nose, give her some carrots, brush her down, and just whisper to her, how beautiful and wonderful she is.
God gave her to us, so that we could enjoy what she did naturally. I to Hank him for bringing her into our lives. I was really ill when she came around, and loving her, helped me through a transplant, and the subsequent medical issues. I love Zenny with all my heart, and I pray for her co tinued helth, and that her next attempt at motherhood is successful with a beautiful, perfect foal.
