Happy Wednesday!
2016 has been off to a chilly start in Kentucky. Last week we spent a few days at Lane’s End with Zenyatta. We braved cold weather that didn’t seem to phase The Queen, and we even got to play in the snow.
Zenyatta is looking gorgeous with a healthy winter coat and growing belly. Her veterinarian says that momma and foal-to-be are both in excellent health. She has bonded with her paddock mates and she even shared her treats.
It won’t be long before foal watch begins in March! Scroll down for photos.
Enjoy!

weather, 0F in my country side,, spare tall warm good kind horses, stallion Arch, mare Storm Flag Flying, mare Somali Lemonade and her lil foal :-( :-(, 2016 began with three crashes in santa anita race2 and race3 :-( :-(,, beautyfull Zenny you look well, do all quietly and not quickly, when weather is comfortable walk on air with mates, when weather is cold put on winter coat and walk on air not all day, i remember that we didnt allow to horses to walk on air when temperature was lower 3F 4F -15C, Zenny eat apples warm in stall care of health, Coz dont hear not friendly comments, that space is not always friendly, easyer to breeze on speed of 32 mph near mates in real race than to hear not friendly comments, Coz you are good racehorse, on course you keep your tail like mom Zenny, when i watch video of your races i think that they are continuing of video of mom Zenny races :-) :-), Zi every day see condition of your legs, i think your legs need all time good care, if it is need give to your legs enough long time for to have rest and for to grow, Coz and Zi breeze carefully, not often, choose sloppy course safe for legs of horses, care of back legs hooves health, walk on air, say to stable mates too, beautyfull Zenny Zi Coz and mates stay comfy and cozy, eat apples care of health, kiss your soft noses, lil 14z filly To Dubai im remembering you

Sending prayers for all you Eastcoasters that you are safe and have power….what a mess this storm has left you with.
Sad about all the wonderful thoroughbreds we have lost in the last couple of months and two beautiful mares in foaling. Makes me worry more about our Zenny even though she is in the best of hands at LE, things can always go wrong. Pray she breezes through this. hugs to all

Dear Kathy.I always love the spring when the days get longer and it’s light again.Wow what a storm on your east coast.I am worried about Fubu and Kimberly said they got 40ins in West Virginia. It’s being compared to the knickerbocker storm of 1922 some 98 people died when a theatre roof collapsed under the weight of the snow. It’s travelling across the atlantic now expecting wind rain and floods here.
Sad news about Mr Al now in a hospice and heavily sedated. He has had a wonderful life though long and happy and I hope they can celebrate and not mourn.
Poor Ray came in a snowman after going out last night.!Wimbley got in his space pod and Mr Fibbs and Milo didn’t get to see a mobie. So sad to lose Somali Lemonade and her Frankel foal but unbelievable Islington gave birth to her 10th filly by STS she is 17 now and visiting Oasis Dream this year.Maybe you recall her winning the Fillies and mares in the Breeders cup.Are you using any Witch Hazel on your bruises I always find it helpful.Have a blessed Sabbath.Love and hugs to you,Kisses to Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I love the spring, too! I’m watching Face the Nation right now and they’re reporting that 19 have died in the east coast storms. I’m worried about Fubu and Kimberly, too. Wow! 40 inches of snow! Astounding! That roof collapse in 1922 sure was tragic. I hope everyone across the pond fare well when the storm gets to your shores! Yes, very sad about Mr. Al. Poor little Zoe…first her brother and now her beloved friend. It’s so difficult when you have so much loss in such a short amount of time. I agree, when Mr. Al does pass away we can all reflect that he had such an interest and long life. A true blessing. That was quite a startling pic of Ray with all that snow on his coat! The ratties always have many issues to deal with. Yes, that was absolutely devastating to lose Somali Lemonade and her foal. Tragic. Good news about Islington. How wonderful. Had forgotten about her win in the fillies and mares in the Breeders Cup. Will refresh my memory! Right now I’m using Arnica Montana on my bruises. Thanks for mentioning Witch Hazel. I’ll look into that. Have a blessed Sabbath. All my nurses are on duty. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Faugheen the machine is back!!!!!Arguably his best performance when winning the Irish champion hurdle trouncing his rivals! 6weeks to go to the festival the greatest show on earth!Mullins is quoted as saying Douvan is a “different species”on his spoof account he’s thinking of running him in the Arkle and the Champion Chase!!! Sheena. Are you snowed in Max???
Max
Here’s the video. Mullins thinks that Nic has not yet fully recovered from his last race. He is going to be assessed before being pointed to his next race. That final messy jump of Faugheen was a reminder of last week. Glad that Faugheen did not go down. Mullins Army takes top three places. Mullins says that Douvan has the disposition of a good pony. He will do anything that he’s asked to do and more. Arctic Fire however is a different sort. If you try to visit him in his stall, he shows you his teeth. He wants to be left alone.
Snow is everywhere. I’m watching reruns of The X Files in prep for the new series. These shows are a lot weirder than I remember. Maybe I didn’t get them the first time around.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s7AJDqYapnk
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Thank you for sharing,Nic has had some hard races and may need a rest.I can’t see anyone beating Faugheen in the champion hurdle but anything can happen in jump racing! He can’t afford a mistake with our hurdles they are not so sturdy.Douvan is something elseThe X-files begins over here next month we were great fans of the programme.Long Run is off again minor foot injury. They really should think of retirement. He owes them nothing.Djakadam is racing here next week.Hope the snow eases. How are you able to get around?Sheena
Max
Nic is a real character. Mullins says that Nic sleeps on his back in his stall with a leg in the air. The first time that he saw him like that, Mullins nearly had a heart attack thinking that Nic was dead. However, that is one of the horse’s quirks. Mullins found him later that same week with a different leg up. That’s Nic. He also said that Faugheen is very low key. He does not court the limelight like The Fly. It’s so great that Mullins keeps the fans fully informed about his horses, but then they are racing nearly every day. It’s an army of winners.
Getting around is out of the question. Maybe tomorrow.
Ann NC
What a character that Nic. Playing possum and tricking Willie.
Thanks for this great story, Max.
Never a dull moment with our horses.

Dear Max:
Love to hear all the different quirks and personality traits that make our beloved horses such interesting individuals and so endearing. Thank you.

Max
JudyB and Ann NC. Mullins knows his horses in training as individual athletes and he lets the fans know about them too. He’s in high demand for interviews. He always has something positive to say and never criticizes other horses. I love to hear these kind of stories. I would bet that Mario has lots of interesting information about Red, his likes and dislikes. Hoping that one day we will hear more about Red and Coz.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
That will be wonderful to hear from Mario on ZI and from COZ’s groom too. They’re all different with their own little quirks and personalities. Hope we get to know about them some day.
The more I hear from you about Mr. Mullins, the more I like and respect him. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Z13Rulz and Fans:
Z13Rulz, you are correct. I realized my mistake and that Storm Flag Flying was probably bred in February 2015 for a 2016 January foal. As you said, thank God, the little Candy Ride is not premature and should do well.
Here are two articles on the beautiful mares that have passed recently, Storm Flag Flying (16) and Somali Lemonade (7). Once again, sad reminder that complications in foaling can arise at any age. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.The Fly enjoyed his parade today bucking and kicking he would have given them a run for their money!I had never realised Douvan was so huge same height as Zenyatta.I was watching Willie’s interview they will have an easy time now then more work before Cheltenham. He said on his spoof account it was great they had named a festival in his honour at Cheltenham!I expect you’ll have mountains of snow around after the ploughs get to work.Take care.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Douvan is as tall as Zenyatta, and like her he is a well balanced individual with an excellent disposition. He’s got very good manners for such a large horse.
The Fly will never change. He loves the camera. Mullins said that Faugheen is not like that. Today his fans were cheering for him after his race and he was just looking at them curiously. He was not excited at all.
I used to be like that panda in DC when I saw snow. Now I’m eager for spring. It’s closer to the KD.

We came through the storm quite well here. Some snow, lots of sleet and very little freezing rain, thank goodness. Electricity stayed on so no worries. Bailey and Smudge ran around in the backyard and enjoyed the “white blanket”. We took walks in the winter wonderland yesterday and today. It was a great snow for sledding/tobogganing. Even I was tempted to get my old sled out, but decided the wood slats might be too old to support me, and I might be too “un-young”!
Goodnight and Sweet dreams to all

Glad to hear you missed the freezing rain part and got mostly sleet instead. It was a wild storm!

Don’t intentionally hurt another person.Humiliating someone to show your great power only shows your great weakness. Every act must be answered; it must be accounted for and settled. Absolutely no one escapes the judgment, so now is the time to ask forgiveness and to make amends. What we say comes back to us: our own words judge us; our own words condemn us. Those we hurt may move on, but we will pay for our words and actions-we will be, you might say, “hung by our tongue.”
The Great Creator has made us of one blood and of the same soil he made us.

Dear Kathy.Oh,I am not looking forward to the day of judgement but God is forgiving.I have said many things I regret.I expect all of us have.I heard about 8 people died clearing the snow.We have no law here about keeping pavements(sidewalks) clear. They say if you were to clean the snow away and it froze maybe someone would fall and could sue you but if left alone it’s considered an act of God.Hopefully things will to normal. We are sure to have more floods this week Wales is expecting a lot of rain tomorrow.
Poor Zoe’s team didn’t do well despite her going naked! The Pats lost too and another K-9 was killed in Omaha trying to apprehend a suspect Ray was sad.No news about Fubu Kimberly could never manage to clear any snow with her RA.Marty habbed a big sad for Monday and Wimbley is still in his healing apt.I think his ninja moves were the problem. We are excited about Johanna Konta reaching the quarters out in Australia first British woman to get that far since Jo Durie in 1984 and Andy’s through as well!!
Hope you are still recovering well and remember to turtle even you are not at work.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I think regret over something we’ve said is pretty much universal. We’re really fortunate that God is so long-suffering and loves us in spite of ourselves! Yes, the weather is the big news story right now. Hope we all come through okay. I was sorry Zoe’s team lost. Such a sweet note on her page about Oliver being Mr.Al’s personal pet up in heaven now. Did you notice that Zoe has passed the 19,000 mark? A little good news in some very sad times. Sorry to read another K-9 officer was killed. I hope one of Kimberly’s neighbors is keeping her walkways clear of snow. I certainly understand Marty habbing a big sad on Mondays! Hope Wimbley is back to normal soon. I’m sure you’re right that his ninja moves caused the problem. Very exciting accomplishment for Johanna Konta! Congratulations to Andy, too. My bruises are fading, thankfully. The nurses are still on duty, bless them. Have a good day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

My Dearest Zenyatta,
I have been wondering how you are handling the snow and cold, and I got my answer today: just like the Queen you are. I think two of the things that become you the most are time spent with Ann and Motherhood. Queen Z, you look happy, healthy, and radiant as you bask in the mutual love of Ann’s visit. Take care, Sweet Z,
