Happy Wednesday!
2016 has been off to a chilly start in Kentucky. Last week we spent a few days at Lane’s End with Zenyatta. We braved cold weather that didn’t seem to phase The Queen, and we even got to play in the snow.
Zenyatta is looking gorgeous with a healthy winter coat and growing belly. Her veterinarian says that momma and foal-to-be are both in excellent health. She has bonded with her paddock mates and she even shared her treats.
It won’t be long before foal watch begins in March! Scroll down for photos.
Enjoy!

RIP Storm Flag Flying, may your filly thrive and carry on your legacy.
A stark reminder of the bittersweet that can come this foaling season.

Dear Z13Rulz, Marshall and Z Fans:
Storm Flag Flying had a colt by Street Cry on April 23, 2014. He is named Strident. The filly must be at lest two months early. Hope she does well, poor baby.
Here’s the article on Storm Flag Flying’s passing from Blood Horse. She was 16. So very sad. Run free in Heaven’s pastures beautiful girl. Love and Hugs, JB
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/97293/champion-storm-flag-flying-dies-at-16
Z13Rulz
Judy, look at the dates again.
She had the Street Cry colt in 2014. That means she was left open for 2015. She was probably bred in 2015 for a January foal this year. So the filly is not premature.
Thank heavens!
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Z13Rulz:
Thank you. I did realize my mistake and left you a post on Page 5. Apparently SFF wasn’t bred again, after her colt Strident was born in April 2014, until early in 2015. So, as you say, thankfully the little filly is not premature. Love and Hugs, JB

This storm – how much of a problem is that for our Queen and the other horses in the area?
Weather map looks kinda scary!
Of course I’m worried about all the people too, but…:)
Marshall (NC Broad)
It is sleeting like crazy now, but that’s so much better than the dreaded freezing rain which is so destructive and knocks the power out. Hoping our electricity stays on. If this were simply snow, it would be fun to walk the dogs in — it is supposed to change into snow again tomorrow morning. As long as we have power, I am happy!
Goodnight and sweet dreams, Zenny and all Z’sters, too! Stay warm and safe.
Hugs and Love
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
I’m hoping, too, that we don’t lose power. Stay warm. Love and Hugs to you, Bailey and Smudge from me and Lola Mae.

January 23 Cherokee Devotional
He was an ancient-or so his young listeners thought. He looked unflinchingly into their faces. He knew he was being tested once more, so he leaned back and remembered the questions of his own youth. From those questions arose the answers that came with the wisdom of living many years. He spoke:
“I will tell you about science.”
He pointed one bronze finger straight up, but his gaze was steady on their faces.
“He is the first scientist. He created it with his words.”
He told them anything they could see or touch was created before the earth and the sky. Never think yourself wiser than anyone else. Sometimes it is the slower ones that get the best ideas. Always look and listen and think-that is the key to science or anything worthwhile,
I turn to the Great Spirit’s book which is the whole of his creation. You can read a big part of that book if you study nature.

So sad about Storm Flag Flying. Talented mare from a beautiful family. Claiborne has been hit with double tragedy this week with the loss of Arch and now Storm Flag Flying.
Also, a barn fire at Old Friends. According to Bloodhorse.com all the horses were gotten out safely.

The White House is living up to it’s name today hope all your eastern neighbours are safe. It’s a nice mild day here heavy going on the racecourses though.Willie and Rich Ricci are over at Ascot.Big race on at 3pm.Sad to hear little Oliver died but it never sounded good so he is free from his pain now and he was loved.Zoe and Diane will be sad.Zoe aslo had a bittersweet moment with Mr Al.I remember my aunt Nancy just wanted to be left alone when she was very ill.I am glad Zoe was able to visit though.I haven’t had much time to visit the rest of the furbabies yet.Moose’s trainer NTD is running the New One today in a Champion Hurdle trial.Have an easy weekend.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
My swelling has gone down, still a lot of bruises and soreness. The nurses are taking good care of me. Hugs to you as you remember a sad day. I know what you mean about it not seeming that it has been that long. I just saw the White House on our news. Barack might have to go back to Hawaii to escape the bad weather! Enjoy the fabulous racing! I was saddened to learn of Oliver’s passing. The prognosis never sounded good. Poor little guy. He sure seemed to be very sweet and adorable. Very worried about Mr. Al. His age is definitely against him. I read on Fubu’s page that Kimberly had to take him to the doctor’s what with the storm coming. He needed shots and meds and she knew she wouldn’t be able to go out once the storm arrived. Have a great day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from the nurses. Kathy XOXO

I have a book with this 3 generations picture taken by Barbara Livingston. What a moment she was able to capture. You will need to scroll down to see it. I am hoping that maybe our Queen Z can have this kind of story. In this day and age it seems almost unattainable.

Sue FLCPRC
Hello everyone
I have an update on my Mom.
She was released from the nursing home today and is at my sisters house.
I hope she does okay there.
Mom is very sick and hardly eating anything.
The only reason she got out of the nursing home was because she wanted to be treated by her cancer Dr. and that couldn’t happen at the home.
BTW the nursing home was really bad. I am saving up pills when I can and never going to a place like that!!!
We are going to her cancer Dr. Monday and I already know from talking to them that mom only has months. I am not sure what is going to happen. I think the best tactic is to stall further treatment. Further treatment will just make her even sicker.
I pray that God takes her home in her sleep.
She did not look very happy today at my sisters. I don’t think she will be happy anywhere. I will let you know what happens after the apt.
love Sue

Dear Sue,
So very sorry about your Mom. We had all four of our parents – it’s a hard road, but was so glad that we were here for them. We lost our last parent in 2010. Such a hard time for you all. Will keep her and you and your sisters in my prayers. with love, Elizabeth

Sue,
Hope your mom can have some quality days there with you and your sister and that the doctor can make her comfortable. My mom turned 99 yesterday and is in pretty good physical health but her mental health is not good. She is in a nursing home that seems to do a pretty good job. But none of them take care of our parents the way we want them cared for.
Will remember you, your sister and your mom in my prayers each day.

Just a sad year so far. All the great ones we have lost. Just breaks my heart. We love these beautiful creatures and bring them into our lives. They give us hope. They give us joy. And we have to learn to let go. It is not easy. It will never be easy. But we have each other. Always the Z family. I take comfort in that.
