Happy Tuesday!
Alys sent us these sweet photos of Z Princess out in the paddock with her mom and their paddock mates. We’ll be visiting Lane’s End in September, and we can’t wait.
In the meantime we’ve been hard at work planning the rest of the year for Zenyatta.com, and we have some exciting announcements coming up. Judy, I did see the entry of my beautiful Lea. Was surprised he was coming back from his illness on the turf since he had done so well on dirt. Thank you for explaining to me that he would only go if the race was moved off the grass.
Good luck to all of the horses. Glad Lea is only going if it goes to dirt ’cause I would really be torn with him against Danny Boy.
carol in arkansas/PACING
Lea is entered as MTO….he will only run if race comes off the turf…at least that is what my app is saying…I pick Danny on turf….but if race comes off…I have to give the nod to Lea
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee and Carol:
Shirlee, I checked the forecast for Saratoga and the rain is supposed to hold off until Sunday, so the race should go on the Turf. It’s good that Lea is ready to return. I’m sure they’ll find a good spot in a dirt race for him. Yes, glad he’s not going against Danny too. On pins and needles for The Chestnut King. Stay safe and sound Beautiful Boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena,
You were right…Mango’s conversation with Sissy was just heart-breaking. Can you imagine how upset Mama is?!! Bless their hearts. Praying the time goes fast for them and that the ladies at the pet hotel will give them lots of love!

Dear Max and Judy
Thanks,I missed the bit about the Baruch on Aug 30-thought they would wait until the Woodbine. The pictures of Dan were amazing, much appreciated!!! He is so handsome and his eye is so kind and wise in the close up.Keeping him in my thoughts daily and am a big fan! Sending lots of love and good wishes for Danny.
Dear Judy-so glad the girls made it to the show safe and sound, sure it wil be fun. Thanks, will pass along the recipe if someone asks.My friends’ throroughbred didn’t like dark trailers and keeping the space bright as possible helped. The main thing is your stud muffins made with such love. Looking straight ahead(not at the horse) with a calm steady movement not hesitating also helped-sure they do that already. It just takes one good ride to make new memories, kudos to Hudson and you and the girls.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear debbie s:
Yes, Godspeed Danny! He IS a beautiful boy.
Thank you for your tips on loading. You’re so right, the calmer you are, the less frightened the horse will be. They do pick up on our emotions. Takes a lot of patience and the Stud Muffins seem to help. Hoping Hudson will becoming accustomed to loading and will be more confident and not afraid. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena
This has been a crazy week and by the time I get to the blog it is very late where you are. Here I am and happy to send a hi. I just looked at the nest and Gwynant was there waiting for fish and it was so windy and cold looking!Happy the livestream was back. I laughed when the blog said Deri missed her weight watchers meeting again, she is looking buff. Like you I am sad they have such a long journey ahead.Monty has been such an outstanding Dad,he is giving them the best chance possible.Had a nice time with Ash yesterday and wrote a few of his funny moves on a post to Judy last night.
Tully is good and patient with me-a slower week next week.I have been trying to do a few simple things getting abit of work done on the deck and stairs-as Max said,it may be done in Oct. Small stuff, all is good and I wish you a wonderful weekend!! Love and hugs,Debbie
ps Looked up Red Rum and was blown away by the videos and photos,I will never forget the /73 race, heart of a lion after being behind 30 lengths and then winning after coming from 15 lengths behind at the last jump!! The footage that took my breath away was seeing him gallop in such majesty and beauty of movement along the beach and so free!!!!!!!!

Dear Sheena and Z family
ps thanks to Sheena for sharing the story about this amazing horse, Red Rum.
His grave is at the last post at Aintree Racecourse in the UK and the epitaph reads:
Respect this place
This Hallowed Ground
A legend here
His rest has found
His feel would fly
Our spirits soar
He earned our love evermore.

Dear Kathy R

Dear Kathy-catching up,thanks for the name of the book and author of the Devotionals and most of all thank-you for posting them,I look forward to them every day. I laughed with the BBQ points re men and women’s tasks, rings true-smile.

Dear debbie s:
You’re so welcome. Love and Hugs, JB
debbie s.
Dear Abigail
I know you love to do research on horse legends of the past and are interested in doing a jumper next time.
Red Rum from the UK is such a good story .Also,I just finished a book on an American legend called Snowman, the Eighty Dollar Champion. See his site on the net with amazing photos of him.
Both horses had a rough start, went to trainers with very little money and went on to become champions.
Red Rum came to his trainer lame and with pedal osteitis,a serious bone disease. His trainer owned a car show room and ran him on the local beach for his training. He was not a large horse but had the heart of a lion, his /73 race and steeple chases following are epic.
Snowman was bought for $80 from a truck leaving auction and was going to a slaughter house. The man that bought him let his children enjoy him- many little ones on his back in the water in one picture.Snowman was massive, his owner (and trainer) used him for a school horse at a girl’s school and although he was big, Snowman did not want to jump.It wasn’t until he sold Snowman (sadly needed the money) to a neighbour and Snowman kept jumping fences to come home that he knew his true potential.
You will find other stories, just thought you would enjoy learning about these two heroic horses.Love your work and learning about the horses you have chosen thus far.
debbie s.
oops,I didn’t do the epitaph for Red Rum justice
Wrote feel for feet,it was so lovely sorry for the slip up
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Debbie.I’m so glad you enjoyed Red Rum’s story and videos.I often watch his National wins.He had so many hard races before he became famous they always thought he was lazy!I remember in 74’when he won under 12st and then 3 weeks later won the Scottish National under 11st 13lb.Ginger was a great character himself always called a spade a spade!Horse and man were made for each other and Aintree.I’ve often wondered why they haven’t made a film about them.
It’s been miserable in Wales today quite stormy on the Dyfi Deri is getting HUGE!Monty is such a good dad keeping them well fed.I read how much you enjoyed with Ash.Hope you can get all your work done.Love and hugs Sheena.

The Moose has tweeted a drawing of him by one of his many talented fans. Moosie looks particularly Moosie.
Free the Moose! Beast, saw that photo of you planning an escape from your stall. Keep training. Lots of time later for the big break out.

I finally saw the Beast race in Saratoga. What an exciting race that was.
Max
His other two winning races were good too. He wired those ones.
Max
JudyB. Saw another photo of The Beast along with Tony’s pony in the winner’s circle. Pony looked really thrilled to be there, as in he thought that he must have won the race. Not kidding. The pony is a good looking chestnut.
Free the Moose! Beast, keeping an eye on you.
Ann NC
That is a great winner’s circle photo! He is a proud pony! Good job by the track photographer, bookending those horses.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max, Ann and Linda:
Linda, you got to see The Beast live; great!
Max and Ann, have to look for that photo. Too cute, the pony was proud to be in the winners circle. Probably reliving a moment of his own successful race. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.Super new pic of our boy Hovis!Glad to see him back to his usual self despite the insults from his mum and kisses from the dude in pink!
Wise Dan’s race is on about 8.15pm over here I pray all goes well with him.I heard Toast may run in the Breeders cup classic.I don’t know what Aidan has planned for Australia he’s worth 50million now!!I just hate the thought of them being retired so young.Al Kazeem may run in the Irish Champion stakes if the ground is suitable he does have some options in France.I can’t believe it’ll so be our last classic of the season soon, seems only yesterday the Guineas were on.Hope you have a wonderful Labour day weekend.Free the Moose!Niss4Senate.Sheena.PUDan tomorrow!!
Max
Sheena. Hovis has a lot to deal with for a horse celebrity.
Not a good idea to race on dirt in the Classic without experience. Dirt took down Galileo. Might however have been hard to beat Tiznow on any surface. Tiz is a very determined equine. He’s also an escape artist of world class standards. The Beast is on his way.
Hoping the best for Al. I really like that horse. He’s the pride of Wales.
Read that blog today about Glesni. Saw your comments. Noticed that you did not mention that Glesni has flown over to Cheltenham. Moose, you better be feeding her well.
Free the Moose! Beast, keep on training. Prison breaks are for later.

Z Princess looks absolutely beautiful. She still has her wavey mane, and she is a spitting image of her mama.
Alys thank you so much for the beautiful photos. She appears to be a lot taller than her paddock friends.
I am so looking forward to seeing Coz race. John seems to think it could be as soon as this fall.
Well Zenny all her kids are beautiful. We can see you in all of them. You stay well. Maybe I might even get to me you!!!
Love to all of Team Z. Thank you again and again for sharing Zenny and her family with us.

Sheena. Think that drawing captures the wild and free rascal in the Moose. No one dictates to the Moose.
Moose, run free forever! Beast, time for some rest. Look to the Moose on how to stand still.

Dear Max
Thank-you for the Hovis update-always makes me smile and often laugh out loud.
Dear Hovis,he is so misunderstood and put upon yet always ready to forge on.
His canter sounded very exciting-his physio must be helping-smile.
Have a great weekend. D

Max-ps Wishing Dan all the best tomorrow. Go Dan,run like the wind and be safe.

Dear Max.I had to let the Dyfi believe Glesni was on her way to Africa and not wintering with a racehorse in Gloucestershire!I hope Moose is keeping her well supplied with fish.Free the Moose PUDan.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Excellent idea. That Blue number girl osprey who is always after Monty might fly over there and annoy Glesni, not to mention the Moose. Cannot see the Moose approving of her. Moose dislikes those pushy authority types.
Free the Moose. Beast, if you are reading this, shouldn’t you be in bed? You’re in training.

One of my favorites, Oxbow, is going to stand next year at Calumet. The famous farm has also returned English Channel from Lane’s End. EC is VE Day’s sire. Bravo to Brad Kelley for bringing these guys home.

Dear Sheena,
Just read that our beloved Joey the Garden Cat has passed away. He fell ill last night and was taken to Dr.Bob. He initially showed improvement but then took a turn for the worse. RIP, sweet Joey…
Hugs and tears, Kathy.

Dear Kathy,
So sorry about Joey. It is always so painfully hard to lose a beloved one. Just take comfort knowing he had a good home with love, and allow your memories to soothe your broken heart. RIP dear Joey

Dear Max and Z Fans:
Found this slideshow of the Beast on his Facebook Page. There are nine photos; in one of them, he is laying down to take a nap. There’s one in the winners circle and two by Barbara Livingston where he’s rearing up. Beautiful, big boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks, Judy B.
That is one beautiful Beast! Lovely conformation picture, too.
Lots of Hugs and Love
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Janet and Marshall:
He’s a beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. If you look carefully, the Beast is examining the space under his stall door as a possible opportunity to escape. He has however realized, because he is a very smart beast, that there is not enough room to get his 17.1 hands of beastly beauty through that opening and onto the open road. Therefore a snooze.
Free the Moose! Beast, lie down and relax. They might be serving the meals soon.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I have been looking at that photo of The Beast laying down in his stall. I think he may be trying to escape to find more spacious accommodations. Would be nice if they take some of his earnings and build him a stall where he can stretch out some. He’s certainly deserves the best. Love him. Love and Hugs, JB
KathyR
Dear Judy and Max:
I think the Beast is trying to escape to come Downunder and visit with my little Thurzel – they can look each other in the eye (she’s actually a whole 1 inch taller that Beast) Hugs KathyR
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
Wow, that’s right, Thurzel and The Beast would get on just fine. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
KathyR. The Beast is still growing. He might make it to eye level yet with your little girl. How does she feel about escaping? Might take a small brigade of handlers to get them both back.
Free the Moose! Beast, be a good boy.
Ann NC
Great photos! Love the one of Beasty Boy rearing and his blankie turns into a Super Hero cape. The BB to the rescue! Huge personality with this guy.
Where will he stable after Saratoga?
Max
Ann NC. The Beast was at Belmont before Saratoga. I think that he also spends time at or near Fair Hill, or wherever Tony Dutrow is training his horses.
Free the Moose! Beast, hear that? You’re a super horse crime fighter.

JudyB. Nice ones of Ox. Also good photo of Gary. Wonder what color Ox is now. He’s supposed to be a bay, but he often looks gray. Lukas thought that Ox is a gray. Very happy that he’s going home to Calumet.
Free the Moose! Beast, you better be sleeping in your stall.

I thought he was gray too….saw him several times up close….never considered anything else…

carol. Lukas had the experts from the Jockey Club come out and see Ox. They classified him as a bay. He looks gray to me too.

JudyB. Oxbow is like the horse in the Wizard of Oz. You never really know what color he is. In this photo, he looks bay. He also looks like his “brother” Paynter. Never forget Paynter the miracle horse. He would not give in.
Free the Moose! Beast, be good and you might get some extra treats.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
In the picture I took earlier this summer, he did not look nearly this brown. It was in the album I posted on Flickr for everyone to see. He was definitely more gray. Maybe it depends on the light?
