Happy Tuesday!
Alys sent us these sweet photos of Z Princess out in the paddock with her mom and their paddock mates. We’ll be visiting Lane’s End in September, and we can’t wait.
In the meantime we’ve been hard at work planning the rest of the year for Zenyatta.com, and we have some exciting announcements coming up. Today, we’re starting a brand new mailing list for those who’d like to stay updated. You can subscribe by entering your email address in the form to the right (just under the search form). Members will receive news from Zenyatta.com, offers from the Zenyatta Shop, and will be the first to know about special events and opportunities to meet Zenyatta!
Enjoy!

Thank you Alys for the wonderful pictures. Z Princess it so gorgeous. Last night Zenyatta’s Classic was on TVG again. No matter how many times I see it I still get the same feeling that I had that day. I hope she’s passed along her tremendous will to win to her children. Today I dropped my brother off at a house 30 miles away so he could help an elderly lady with her car. The people next door had a gray horse in a pen and I had to go say hello. He was so affectionate and wanted attention. I had forgotten how soft a horses muzzle felt. I was disturbed by the scars on his neck and a large sore over his eye. He also badly needed a hoof trim. The pen had barbed wire fencing and it was pretty obvious the scars on his neck were from tangling with the wire. His mane was all scabby. He had hay and fresh water but I can’t help being upset. I felt so guilty when I had to leave. He never moved. Am I over reacting?
Barbara Wood
No, Vicki. This poor boy needs help, and the sooner the better. Barbed wire is not appropriate for horses.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Vicki and Barb:
Totally agree with both of you; this horse needs help. Love and Hugs, JB

Please report the owner to the Humane Society in the area….you don’t need to leave your name. This is animal cruelty.

I hope Zennys’ team will accept the ice bucket challenge by Little Silver Charm from Old Friends to raise money for ALS. If Zenny is not able perhaps some of the staff from Lane’s End can answer the call-would love a photo! Staff at Old Friends are doing the challenge tonight!!
Funnily,I had just gotten off the phone from Old Friends when I saw the challenge. above.I ordered the book on the History of Old Friends and made a donation .It was my lucky day- Bea said that Michael was in the office and asked me if I would like to talk to him. What a nice opportunity to thank him and let him know how much I appreciate what he and the staff are doing for our senior friends..Michael said that Old Friends attracts such nice people and that there have been many Canadians donating as well as people from the US… I am ENCOURAGING Z fans to order the book and make a donation. Love, Debbie S.

I would LOVE to have an opportunity to meet Her Majesty Queen Zenyatta face to face! Of course, being the regal lady that she is, the Queen would expect an offering, so I would bring her a gift basket of Brach’s Starlight Peppermints, a bouquet of carrots, delicious apples, and a six pack of Guinness (imported)! Only the best for Queen Z!

oh my gosh, the first photo is gorgeous!

HorseRacingNation.com August 27, 2014
The $500,000 Los Alamitos Futurity (Grade I) has been added to the list of races that comprise the 2014-15 “Road to the Kentucky Derby.” The series of 35 select races – 19 “Prep Season” races and 16 “Championship Series” races – will determine which horses qualify to the 141st running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I) on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
The 1 1/16-mile Los Alamitos Futurity, a race formerly known as the Hollywood (1981-2006) and CashCall (2007-13) Futurity at the now-shuttered Betfair Hollywood Park, will be run for the first time at Los Alamitos Race Course – the home base for 2014 Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome – on Saturday, Dec. 20. The race produced six Kentucky Derby winners during its run at Hollywood Park.

WOW, Princess Z is absolutely beautiful! She looks older than she is. Thank you for the new pictures!
Kathy, I love your Cherokee Devotionals & look forward to reading them almost as much as I do seeing new photos & updates of Zenny & her children. Thank you for posting them.
Ed Stanco, Princess of Sylmar’s owner grew up in my local area, so the local newspapers usually keep us updated on Princess of Sylmar. The Schenectady Gazette reported today that she will not be retired yet. Todd Pletcher assured Ed that she is ok to continue to race at the level she has been & winning. Apparently, thumps in horses is the equivalent of hiccups in people. From what I have read, Mr. Stanco really cares about her and would retire her if he felt it was in her best interest. He seems to be as wonderful an owner as the Mosses are.
I, too, signed up for the new mailing list. It does take a couple of minutes for the email with the link to click to come, so be patient & you will be able to finish the process.

Dear Donna:
Thanks for the update on Princess of Sylmar. Look forward to her return to racing. Love and Hugs, JB

The photo of Z Princess and her friends are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them with us. It’s obvious by how happy and contented their expressions are that they are well cared for. Growing up so fast!!
Pati-College Girl
Hi Z Family,
In the picture with the three amigos side by side by side, does anyone else think that the one on the faaaaaar right looks like Coz did when he was about that age? It’s a striking resemblance to me and for a second, I thought I was seeing our Cozzy all little and fuzzy again!
My life has gotten so hectic, but I’m still keeping up with the sales and Team Z. How could I not? Coz looks so good, Zic looks amazing too, and Princess Z looks more and more like a royal lady everyday! It’s going to be one handsome family portrait, let me tell ya! :P
I want to be on here more, but life is so crazy right now that even eating twice a day is a miracle for me. I’m hoping to make it out to Breeders’ Cup next year or the year after when it comes back out to Cali. Maybe I can get my boyfriend hooked on racing too! He’s already a horse fan, so why not eh?
Stay safe, healthy, and happy everyone.

Dear Marshall:
Left a post for you on the last page of the previous blog. It’s about the new race call announcer that will be taking over for Tom Durkin. I think you’ll enjoy the video I posted of him calling a race. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the link to the Monmouth race called by Larry Collmus. I remember those horses: Mywifeknowseverything and The Wife Doesn’t Know — too funny! Yes, LC does a great job of calling this. I think he will do just fine.
Glad HT was settled down after they got to their destination. Oh, the power of Judy’s home-made Stud Muffins!! They are baked with love.
You’re the Best! Lots of Hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Wishing LC all the best. You are too sweet. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Shirlee:
Don’t know if you’ve seen the entries for Saratoga for Saturday. Your boy, Lea, is entered in the 5th Race, The Bernard Baruch Handicap, PP 6, with J. Rosario aboard. He’s listed as MTO, so he’ll only go if the race comes off the turf. Wise Dan is entered in PP 5 with the “dratted” Johnny V aboard. Even if he doesn’t go on Saturday, would appear he’s ready and fit. That’s good news. Love and Hugs, JB

August 28 Cherokee Devotional
Everything that thrives if fed by the light. Lift up a rock, and the seed that sprouted beneath it is bent, stunted and colorless. But after a few hours of filtered light it begins to straighten, and will eventually throw off all the effects of being held down. We need a li so qui lv di, a weight or a burden, lifted from our shoulders so we can grow and thrive in the light. We have to show willingness to stand on the rock and not beneath it. To see ourselves in better circumstances, to think clearly, is to be free. Little by little we see the possibility of health and order and great prosperity which includes everything we need. To see good and say good will eventually cause good, but our vision and our words must be steady.
You must speak straight so that your words may go as sunlight to our hearts.

Dear Sheena,
That’s great that Monty’s taking such good care of the chicks. I’m sure they miss their mom, though. Yes, fabulous news about Marty’s plates. Now he just needs to concentrate on the countries he doesn’t have yet. Onward and upward! You’re right…The Mighty Maltese has been absent for quite some time. Darned trolls…their moms must be SO PROUD of them (NOT!!!). My Miss Kitty Face has loads of friends, indeed. Hope her mom feels better soon. Mango is just precious. I think I may have seen Jiff.
