Happy Tuesday!
Alys sent us these sweet photos of Z Princess out in the paddock with her mom and their paddock mates. We’ll be visiting Lane’s End in September, and we can’t wait.
In the meantime we’ve been hard at work planning the rest of the year for Zenyatta.com, and we have some exciting announcements coming up. Today, we’re starting a brand new mailing list for those who’d like to stay updated. You can subscribe by entering your email address in the form to the right (just under the search form). Members will receive news from Zenyatta.com, offers from the Zenyatta Shop, and will be the first to know about special events and opportunities to meet Zenyatta!
Enjoy!

Dear Judy Berube, How is Charlie, the horse love of your life been doing?? (Zenyatta excluded)
love n hugs, Sally B
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sally:
Charlie is very well and I’m hoping to visit him this weekend. Haven’t seen him up close for about two weeks when I had a chance to groom him outside of the paddock. Since Deb (Hudson’s Mom) has not been riding or grooming him, he has been mostly outside in the far paddock very close to the woods. It’s difficult for me to visit him there or feed him treats over the electric fence. Hoping I can get him out of the paddock again on the weekend and groom him a little and give him some Stud Muffin treats and carrots. He is not happy being in his stall lately because for about the past six weeks he’s been outside all day and night; just coming in for grain in the morning and going right out again. Angela has been very busy with her barrel racing pony, Bentley, and competitions, so Charlie is mostly in the paddock with his mates. He’s not worn shoes for some time now and that’s fine, but he needs a trim and will be seeing the farrier soon. Thank you so much for asking about him. I love him like you love Sir. (Yes, Zenyatta excluded). Love and Hugs, JB
KathyR
Dear Judy:
Very good to get news on Charlie: your story sounds very much like a lady I met out at Jeir today. She has a gelding in the same paddock as little Thurzel, and has just brought him up to the barn area for a while – said he was getting far too interested in his mates, and unwilling to work when she wanted to ride him. But what I found interesting – we were talking about what I call Judy Muffins – she gives her horse licorice- the human sort – and says he loves it as a reward. Love and hugs, KathyR

Wow! They’re all so unique in what treats they like. That is an unusual one. Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you for this wonderful article. Two Legends In Their Time. Love them both. Danny and John Henry; just incredible beings. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Yes, JB, incredible!
Thank you, Max.
shirleeinindy
Max, Thank you for posting. Doesn’t seem as if the Great Danny has the same disposition as John Henry. From what I have read JH was a real grouch and not about taking a bite out of anyone who came near. Perhaps that comes from Dan always being with loving caring humans.

Dear Sally B.
Thank-you. I love how you are so in tune with your Fancy-teacher and friend..Bless her, her message is one I need to hear.
Dear Sheena
Thanks for news from the Dyfi-this is the first day I haven’t looked in since you introduced me to the livestream. Deri is her vocal self, smile, and glad Monty is taking a short rest with her. Called Dad as I always do on these days remembering,he is out and will connect later. You made me laugh when you mentioned your mother and sisters dunked their buscuits, but not you! It does spoil the crunch. If Ash ever moves I will have to,for sure, bring along two buckets to hang so he can dunk. The only down side is that they get so mirky and need a lot of cleaning-smile. Speaking of cleaning, that’s what I have been doing and I am soon off to enjoy some sun with Tully-much more fun! .Love and hugs,Debbie

at the risk of exposing my ignorance, I must ask who are the moose and th beast??? i’ve been following this blog ever since Zenny left me i Hollywood Park, crying and spluttering but i just havn’e’t figured it out –i have been saying a prayer fot these 2 horses for years and i don’t know who they are??? could someone please help?? Thanks in advance.
Max
The Moose is Mad Moose, a chestnut, flat and jump racer, who is trained by Nigel Twiston Davies in Cheltenham, UK. He races or does not race as he pleases in the UK. He is currently serving a ban by the British Racing Authority for refusing to run on several occasions. He is our hero because he shows horsey independence. He has his own twitter account.
The Beast is The Big Beast, a 3 year old US colt who recently won the The King’s Bishop at Saratoga. He’s a tiny horse of 17.1 hands who underwent surgery on Tuesday for a bone chip in his ankle. He is my new personal favorite tiny horse.
Sally B. (Auntie cherishes Z and her young)
Hi all, Thank you for your responses! I am thinking the horse sanctuary is quieting down.
I told you about Fancy. Frito, who is 32, muscling is so much gone. Tues. while I was there after he ate his grain (& beet pulp soaked), and then served in a mushy consistancy to him (otherwise he would choke) he ate some hay from the haynets. 20 minutes later then while standing resting, green liquid came back into his mouth. He used his tongue and mouthed it. I watched him as I thought choke or something, but he was fine and continued to rest for a while. Fancy after rested decided to go back out to graze and then so did Frito. (they are the bonded ones) They as well as our Hackney 27 yr old Jo seems happy and content though. I am sorry I can not tell you how Sir is, but I am wishing to find out. I think of him every day.
hugs, Sally B

It appears that the Beast is having an effect on many. Might have also influenced Dan to do a Hi Ho Silver before the BB?

Dear Max:
Oh my gosh, what a great photo. I guess The Beast has been teaching this two year old all his tricks. Power Up Dan, CC, Beholder, CDA, ROC, Treve, Big Trouble, Sir, Angel, Reilly and all who are ill or injured. Beast, rest and get better. TT, love you forever. Loose The Moose! Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. This guy is not exactly small either nor is Big Trouble. Dutrow however says that the Beast is the tiny horse of the whole lot.
Free the Moose! Power up Beast. 58 days to go. Snake, eat your oats.
Ann NC
What a beauty. Beast is the smallest, wow. Tony must be training and prepping those guys for a performance somewhere. Tony’s Troupe of Bad Boys.
Thanks for sharing the photo.
Max
Ann NC. Mislead you with that comment. Since Thurzel and the Beast arrived on the scene, “tiny” is now Z insider code for huge as we do not like to refer to refined equine ladies like Z or Thurzel as huge. The Beast is definitely bigger than Big Trouble or Overthespeedlimit. The Snake looks up to the Beast too.
Free the Moose! Beast, still 58 days to go. Snake, eat those oats. Dan, keep dunking.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max, Ann and Z Fans:
Love the “code”. Beast is the leader of the “Tiny Gang”. Thurzel and Z are “Tiny” ladies. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Exactly.
Free the Moose! Beast, lie down. No rearing up for another 58 days. Snake, bite if you have to. Danny, you’re amazing.

Dear Max
Just loved the article and pictures on the previous page of Wise Dan. Just love this horse.
He’s sure got my vote for Horse of the Year.
Love Shared Belief and Chrome, But Dan would have to get my vote. He’s just one of those special horses that just come along once in a while.. Cherish every moment we get to see him.
Max
Peggy. Only one horse would get my vote before Dan. Zenyatta.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
I sure agree

One more thing, did you notice the way Uncle Johnny rode him on Saturday. What I could see I thought he rode him with the upmost care. Great Ride. I was so nervous.
Don’t think I would want anyone else to ride him.
Max
Peggy. I agree that Uncle Johnny was careful, but maybe not because Dan was fragile. The last time out in the Woodword Dan spent a lot of time and energy fighting with Uncle Johnny. Maybe rearing up in the gate was Dan’s way of making a statement from the get go. On the other hand, Jose and Danny seem to get along well.
Free the Moose! Better be in dream land, Beast. Snake, get some sleep.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Max
You know, Danny might have been communicating with him. Could be.

Why do people expect so much from Wise Dan. I am thrilled he was able to return and win. Wouldn’t you hate to live with a naysayer. If Wise Dan wins HOY again it will be because he deserves it. What heart! I am very proud of my brother and his friend for what they did for the little horse and that family. He doesn’t much like dogs either but when his friend was away for a year long “stretch” he checked on his father everyday, cut the grass and fed the pit bull which he REALLY didn’t like. In all that time he never saw a member of the family so much as drop by. When Mr. C died they were right there with hands out for what they felt they were owed. Sometimes people really surprise you and that’s what my brother has done for me. Just like that people here are so loving and caring. TC you are missed and in my prayers.
debbie s.
Dear Sheena
Deri hasn’t been seen since 10:30 this am unless the photo was taken after that.
I stayed up late and in your early am hours she called and called from the nest and Monty remained on the perch and did not go for fish as usual. She looked so pretty with the wind blowing her feathers- that may be the last time I see her this year. I laughed to read the comment that the perch was in jeopardy because of her weight.Maybe Dad knew she would have trouble with take off if she continued eating so many fish.Hope you have had a good day.Hugs,Debbie
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Debbie.Difficult to know where to post. That must have been a pic taken earlier,I had to go out shopping this morning and didn’t have time to look in.Monty was on the perch in the afternoon and he was on the nest earlier this evening just looking around to see,I suppose,if deri was there.I should imagine she’s gone but the Dyfi will not say for definite until tomorrow. The weather is lovely for a smooth flight.I get quite tearful this time of year when they all go.They both have to grow so quickly.I hope she will have a safe journey to Africa. It’ll be so sad to see the Dyfi empty again.Hope you Tully and Ash have had a lovely day and you are ready for your visitors.Love and hugs Sheena.

RIP Joan Rivers a very, very funny lady.Always loved her.I’m sure she’s making God laugh tonight on the greatest stage of all.Cheers!Sheena.

Sheena. There’s a horse connection to Joan Rivers. Her daughter rides and was married to a horse breeder. Joan is also a friend of Mary Lou Whitney and was often seen with her at Saratoga for the races. Sorry to hear this news, as she was a great entertainer and a shrewd business woman. RIP Joan Rivers.

Dear Sheena, Max, Sally, Peggy, Marshall, Shirlee, debbie s, Kathy R, Sue Fredrick, Barb W and Z Family:
Got a call from Angela early today saying that Charlie would be coming in for the night around 4:00 PM if I wanted to come visit. Angela noticed that Charlie was getting a little bit too herd bound and needed some attention. She has been spending more time with him and bringing him in for the night. When I got there, Angela was leading Charlie and Dakota and I took up Charlie’s lead and lead him to his stall. I had the Stud Muffins with me and he was nudging me the whole time to give him one. I asked Angela if I could groom him and she was concerned about me being in the close quarters of the stall with my Asthma problem. But, I gave it a try and it wasn’t too bad.
I couldn’t believe what Charlie did while I was grooming him. I would ask him to move from one side to the other so that I could get some room to groom him all over and then I would give him a piece of muffin. As I was grooming him, he went right down to his knees in a bow. I couldn’t stop laughing. I called Angela and Alex so they could see what he was doing to get a treat. He’s just incredible.
There are two new boarders at the farm. One has arrived. His name is Jessie and he’s a Tennessee Walker. The other is due to arrive any time. His name is Frank and he’s an Emu. He needed rescuing, so Angel took him.
Here are photos of Charlie all spiffy, Frank, Jessie and one of Angela and Jerry, her Zebra, whom she visited when she was in Florida. She raised him and wasn’t allowed to keep him in RI because of State law, so he went to live in Florida when he was a yearling. He remembered her and was calling to her and so happy to see her. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. Best ever! I love the stories. At first I thought that this emu was a new kind of horse, of which I had never heard. He’s really an emu. So happy for you. What an exciting place. Charles is a very smart guy. Those stud muffins must be like Nissy’s nip to a horse. Work wonders.
Free the Moose! Beast, getting near sleep time. Same for you, Snake. Dan, no more dunking for the day. Lights out in all of those stalls.

Dear Judy:
Charlie looks very spiffy as you say: I’m going out to groom my little girl this morning, so hoping that goes well.
I thought you were using an abbreviation for a horse type I didn’t know with Emu – not the real deal! They’re one of my favourites – just don’t let them near the barbecue because they tend to steal the sausages. Hugs, KathyR
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
I had so much fun today being able to groom Charlie and give him his treats. Unfortunately, I forgot his carrots so I will bring them next time. Hudson was in her paddock, so I didn’t get to give her any muffins today.
Have to alert Angela about Frankie’s probable fondness for barbeque. Have a wonderful visit with your “tiny” girl. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB and KathyR. Good thing that Angela adopted a tiny bird. Waiting to hear news of the tiny girl horse, Thurzel.
Free the Moose! Beast, stall lights better be out. Same for you, Snake. Dan, you are great. I’ll bet Norman will be glad to see you. Same for your bro Dan and your other bro Dan.
