Why Are We Called to Encourage?
By Gini @ DaySpring
Why Are We Called To Encourage
Why are we called to encourage? In Hebrews 3:13, we are told to “encourage one another daily.” Then, in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, it says, “encourage one another and build one another up.” We also learn in Proverbs 12:25 that, “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”
So, with this in mind, we have to wonder why – why is it so important to God that we encourage one another? Are we doing all we can to share God’s love with our brothers and sisters? And, not to mention, who does God want us to encourage?
Let’s explore:
Why is it so important to God that we encourage one another?
We all know this world can be tough. It’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important in a world where we are dealing with daily strife, uphill battles and the looming pressure to make everything okay. Many experience discouragement and this leads to giving in – throwing in the towel and saying “nevermind, I give up.” This is where encouraging others is essential. This is where God uses His people to speak truth to our hearts to remind us that He has overcome the world (John 16:33) and that He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11). We must encourage one another so that we can bring glory to God not just in our lives, but in the lives of those around us as well. Must we never forget 1 John 3:16 where we learn the true meaning of love – “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
Are we doing all we can to share God’s love with our brothers and sisters?
Just think about it for a second – we’re good people, right? We open doors for strangers, smile at dirty, oil-changing men at the service station and we even cleaned up a little after the potluck last Sunday. But, what we must ask ourselves is are we giving it all we got, or are we just doing the bare minimum by being polite and personable while keeping our hands clean at the same time. We invite you to spend some quiet time with God. Ask Him to shine His light on new ways for you to share His love. Ask Him to give you the strength to pursue the doors He is opening in your life and to give you the tools and passion needed to reach out in His name and truly make an impact for the Kingdom.
Who has God called us to encourage?
While many of us feel a strong need to encourage the people we love, it’s somewhat a little harder to reach out to those whom we don’t really care for. Let’s be honest – how many times have you encouraged someone who has been downright rude to you, or someone that you believe is on the wrong path in life? I mean, really, how easy is it to overlook the elderly person who is taking too long at the supermarket or the hateful neighbor who just loves to complain about your dogs or the homeless man who you pass every day on your way to work? However, in Matthew 7: 1-29 it says, “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” We must be willing to look outside of our box, forgive as God has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:32), and reach out beyond our comfort zone to reach those who may need a little extra attention.
Dear Zenny,
Hope today is ‘the’ day! And that you and Vixana are having a great time together. Thank you, Alys, for the wonderful photos (as always). Love catching up on everyone’s comments. with love, Elizabeth – on #8th batch of laundry and still unpacking camper – for 2 people, we’re either very clean or very not!

I just returned from Los Alamitos during which time I watched California Chrome’s latest work. He went 1:12 for six panels and looked great. However, there was a sadness there. One of the best QH’s in the nation, Moonist, just died from colic. Reminds me of one of my old favorites, Naive Diver, who succumbed to the same thing at the top of his game.
Dear Terry thank you for the up date on CC.
Yes very sad indeed, Moonist he was a great champ, but I think Dave W, said that he died from complications during surgery….
Hugs Ingrid.
Great to hear from you! How wonderful to see California Chrome and to watch him working out, too.
It was indeed sad that Moonist died — colic is a terrible foe. This was a great loss, and he was only 5.
Hope you are doing well and will have a nice weekend.
My heart is breaking over the loss of Moonist. I just cannot stop crying. Quarter Horse racing will not be the same without him. Next Sunday will be just so sad when they line up for the Vessels Maturity and he is not there. He had the fastest time in the trials and would have been the favorite. I know how I feel, I cannot imagine how the connections are dealing with this. He was so loved. RIP beautiful Champion, Moonist.
Dear Terry, Thank You so much for the update on California Chrome. I too am very saddened over Moonist. I am a quarter horse fan also. Love Heza Dasha Fire too. I am hoping he is doing OK. Hope we see him this fall.
Moonist, Forever loved.
Dear Judy:
I can’t wait to see him running, I think if runs a lot maybe…He like it… ?
hahaha, I hope soooooo!
Thank you dear for your support.

Dear Judy.Adele was singing at Glastonbury tonight.Massive crowds there. The fallout continues over here with David Cameron saying Russian agents encouraged people to vote leave!!!Well I have’nt met any Russians lately. The Russians are actually happy with our decision but millions want us to have another referendum what ever happened to democracy? Will we be voting until they get a remain majority or what. Many of us have to live with governments and presidents we don’t care for but that’s life get over it.
The Rutland ospreys have been ringed they have a male and female but one not sure although they think it’s female.Everybody is trying to guess Hovis’s news a lot think he is running for PM or he is going to Rio with Carl or doing XC with William or even that Karen is pregnant! We shall see.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Well, I’m as firm a believer in democracy as anybody – and for that reason, given the lies and propaganda and fear mongering and the general lack of knowledge about this extremely important issue, I think there should be another vote. The repercussions will be enormous and too many people will be hurt otherwise. The possibility of Great Britain becoming England, Wales and a bit of Ireland is great. Young people in particular will feel the impact.
And, the days when England could expand via empire are long gone.
I’m shocked that people didn’t try to fix the problems instead of tearing the house down!
Anyway, I don’t generally comment on politics here since I enjoy horses as a respite from my usual immersion but this Brexit troubles me deeply. The reasons for creating the EU in the first place persist. Churchill is rolling in his grave.
Also, we all lost a fortune yesterday and that never fails to make me miserable. My young hot headed friends think only the billionaires took a shot. They couldn’t be more wrong. People will lose jobs, their savings and their futures, and none of us can see where chaos and rage and unpredictable, radical change will end.
In any case I wish everyone well and hope the damage will be minimal, especially to people around the world who have nothing to do with this in the first place but who may suffer regardless.
Fact is, just like nature, we’re all connected. The butterfly in China….
The British people have spoken, and who are we foreigners to say that they did understand what they were doing? We must leave it to them to deal with their own issues. The U.K. and the world have survived much worse things than the fall out from this referendum. In terms of Churchill, he could often be on the side wrong on many issues. He also switched political parties several times. He might well have been with the Brexit side in this case. We just don’t know.
Dear Max.There has been talk of a 2nd referendum. If so,I will never vote again not even in a general election.Democracy will be dead The truth is Europe have never liked us or we them.Maybe General de Gaulle understood the British better than we do ourselves by refusing entry all those years. How well I remember Harold Wilson going cap in hand to the French begging for entry to the Common Market as it was then.I had thought long and hard before I voted. The British people have spoken and I think Churchill would be happy.Life is a tapestry woven by the decisions we make.Sheena
Max
Sheena. Any PM who proposes an immediate second referendum could be political toast. There is also no guarantee that the results would be different. The majority to leave might actually increase as a further rebuke to the political and economic elites. There is nothing new under the sun and there is no need to panic. History gives one some perspective. Carry on. I read that the British equine industry is happy if some barriers go up to the entry into the UK of undocumented Euro horses. Over here you cannot take a horse into Canada without a vet certificate. This is the longest undefended border in the world. Carry on.
Our world is so globally connected now that all economies are affected by the UK vote. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how things resolve and hope for good outcome for everyone. Love and Hugs, JB

Worry is a form of meditation-thinking and dwelling on wrong things. Worry is a negative tool used against us. It is a wrong force that needles us into submitting to possibilities we would not ordinarily accept. Henry Ward Beecher said worry is rust upon the blade. We are simply not as sharp when we worry.
If a child should chance to be restless, the mother raises her hand, “Hush! Hush!” she cautions tenderly. “The Spirits may be disturbed.”

Hope all is well with you. The FB furbabies are fine. My gosh, Zoe had a busy day yesterday. Hope she rests today! The ratties warned us against burning the toast. lol Have a blessed Sabbath and take care. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
RIP Cannon Fodder the courageous little mare nobody wanted bought for £1000 and trained by Sheena West. She had been on her summer break and has sadly succumbed to the dreaded colic.Everyone loves a trier and by God she tried.Very sad today.Sheena.
Dear Max.We are all very sad about Cannon Fodder.Like me very tiny in stature but she had the heart of a lion.Yes,we carry on regardless over here despite all the political upheaval.Thinking of Kauto this week with the anniversary coming up on Wednesday.I visited his twitter page last night just not the same anymore. The stars seem to shine more brightly these days since his sad demise.Sheena
Dear Kathy.Lovely Devotional. The mumbrella is out again and it doesn’t promise a very good week for the start of Wimbledon.Poor Mr Fibbs thought Brexit meant breakfast and bisited us to try and help by offering doughnuts.Definitely the cure-all.Labour are in disarray with 7 shadow cabinet members resigning because of Hilary Benn getting sacked early this morning.Politics has suddenly got exciting over here.Doughnuts all around!!I heard about the dreadful wildfires in CA very sad to see people losing their homes.Have a blessed Sabbath and keep cool.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Well, the biggest racing day of the summer here on “the north coast” has come and gone. Mo Tom had to work for it, but he came up a winner in the Ohio Derby. Adventist (I’m sure I picked him in some pre-Derby race) was second. I was with some friends who know even less about racing than I did originally, and they spent the afternoon winning money by picking horses based on names etc. while I lost by studying past performances. HA! One friend bet across the board on Discreet Lover who went off at something like 87 to 1 in the Derby and finished third. She collected quite a bit :-)
Saw more famous jockeys than horses – Javier Castellano was a jockey change for Mo Tom, and that worked out well. The horse he road in the prior race came in dead last and was eased at the wire so I’m glad things turned around for him. We also had Johnny V, Aaron Gryder, and Tervor McCarthy. We were seated in a restaurant area with windows facing the very pathetic “walking ring.” I was taking pictures of horses and jockeys, when the man standing next to me said “Todd Pletcher is sitting right behind that wall at a table.” I could hardly believe my ears and could barely manage my amusement when I saw the man in question. We’ve all seen Todd (I even talked with him at Keeneland) – tall, slender, plenty of white hair, etc. Let’s just say that this man was about 180 degrees from that scenario :-) As it turned out, he was WITH the Pletcher contingent because I saw him out in the paddock with whoever saddled Todd’s horse, but . . . . And I’m sure the man didn’t believe me when I said it wasn’t him!
Sounds as though you had fun! Amusing that going by just the names paid off for your friends — I often pick horses by their names, too, and sometimes by their coloring.
Congratulations on Mo Tom’s win and to your friend who bet on the long, long shot Discreet Lover — great 3rd place finish!! ?
Exciting to see famous jockeys and “almost” Todd P.!!
Sounds like a fun day. Congrats on your capping skills.
Love Javier C. and Mo Tom. Our Ann NC gave me a heads up on young Trevor and I follow him faithfully now and of course JV is one of my absolute favorites. Congrats to all of them. Love and Hugs, JB
Afraid I misread your post thinking you picked Discreet Lover. Sorry about that. Guess your friend proved sometimes just picking names works too. Love and Hugs, JB
Glad you had a nice racing day, Sandy. Love playing those names! Wow, seeing those fine jockeys would be exciting. JC’s smile is the best and young Trevor is a fine rider!
Marshall, so funny, the “almost” Todd P. Hahaha.
Thanks for sharing, Sandy ( #1 Racing Fan ).

Just a little update. My Dear love Night Prowler is at Saratoga. Over the moon that he is back. He breezed a few days ago. He reminds me a lot of Wise Dan and I am so happy that he’s back. He’s a gelding and I so hope he will be around for a long long time. I am just counting the minutes till I get to see him. Bet he has grown lots.

We can stand where we are or stand on tiptoe and look over the edge. What is the edge? It is that place where fear lurks and no one dares get too close. Many dreams have taken us up to the edge. With quaking knees, we have looked over the immense distance between what is and what could be. Most people turn away from the edge-it’s just too scary. But we don’t have to turn away. We can go to the edge and leap, if we can believe in something greater than can be explained. The most important thing is to let go of fear and take hold of the life whose Light never goes out.

Dear Kathy. We,in the UK,are standing on the edge and have taken a leap into the unknown but we badly need a leader now.The 1922 committee want call me Dave to go by September and as for the shadow cabinet they are all resigning but Jezza refuses to go.Life goes on despite the turmoil a lot in Brussels seem to think article 50 will never be activated what does that say for democracy? The political elite are so arrogant and had completely misjudged the ordinary man/woman in the street.
A great time was had by all at Glastonbury in the mud and now begins the massive clean-up.Adele was superb Saturday night.Wimbledon has begun and the sun is out for today at least,Glesni is calling for food and Monty has caught 205 fish so far this season. No signs of Hovis’s news yet.Zoe looked so beautiful at Blogpaws and she and Miss Diane had a lazy day yesterday.Monday has arrived for the ratties.Loki had a lazy weekend too. There is a cat called Milo on Viktor’s page who has the most horrific injuries. The first video I had great difficulty in watching.I pray they can save him.Was I right in hearing there is flooding in West Virginia?Such a lot of damage from the wildfires in CA.Keep safe.Great win from Minding yesterday do hope she will carry on as a 4yr old.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Yes, you all are in unchartered territory for the moment. I hope everything begins to calm down soon! Glad you had Glastonbury to enjoy! A nice diversion. Wimbledon…how exciting! All is busy at the Dyfi. 205 is a lot of fish! Anxiously awaiting Hovis’ news. Yes, Zoe was stunning in her beautiful dress. I’m glad they were able to rest yesterday. There was a funny bit with the ratties. I think they were watching a movie. Glad Loki was able to spend a lazy day. Poor Milo. Sounds awful! Yes, we had flooding in W VA. The fires near Lake Isabella were so devastating. That’s a long way from us. Congratulations Minding on your win! Have a good Monday. Don’t forget to turtle! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Carry on.

Dear Sheena, Sophia and Max:
Max, so good to hear from you.

RIP Cannon Fodder the courageous little mare nobody wanted bought for £1000 and trained by Sheena West. She had been on her summer break and has sadly succumbed to the dreaded colic.Everyone loves a trier and by God she tried.Very sad today.Sheena.
Max
I read about this in the Racing Post. It was very sudden. She was well loved by her people. Small but mighty.
sheena.davies(wales)

This is an article on Ballydoyle horses, one of whom is Zenyatta’s full brother. It sounds like he’s like his sister in size. Hoping that he can run like Zenyatta too when the time comes.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sandy,
Sounds as though you had fun!
Hugs and Love

Dear Sandy:
Sounds like a fun day. Congrats on your capping skills.
Love Javier C. and Mo Tom. Our Ann NC gave me a heads up on young Trevor and I follow him faithfully now and of course JV is one of my absolute favorites. Congrats to all of them. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sandy:
Afraid I misread your post thinking you picked Discreet Lover. Sorry about that. Guess your friend proved sometimes just picking names works too. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC

With Song Bird possibly coming to Saratoga also, Hope its a nice meeting. I will have a hard time if you and Cathryn Sopia meet. Love you both.
Looking forward to summer at the spa. Also Del Mar.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, you all are in unchartered territory for the moment. Kathy XOXO
