Dear fans,
It’s an exciting time of the year. The Derby is approaching, and Zenyatta is preparing to give birth to her fifth foal. She is in great health and on track for a mid-May foaling. We will keep you posted as the big day nears. Alys took some great images of Zenyatta on Friday enjoying a beautiful Kentucky spring day.
Enjoy!

It has just been reported that 2000 Grand National winner Papillon has died at the age of 26yrs.Trained by Ted Walsh and ridden by the short guy he was owned by an American lady Betty Moran who never even liked the race but was persuaded to let him run.We have lost many of the old winners lately now all running free togetherRIP

RIP, Champ.

Checking in again to say I love you Zenyatta and am thinking and praying for you and your sweet and bigger baby bump. Stay relaxed enjoying the green grass and the golden sun.
The count down is on for the run for the roses! I have to admit I have not been able to stay on top of things as with the years prior. But, I would love to see Gormley win it; if not, a tight finish to place second.
Praying for all horses and riders a safe journey to the finish; then I will be happy!
Loving you Z with kisses and to all your sons,
Z princess and dear Sir

The Haiku Handicapper: 2017 Kentucky Derby
May 3, 2017
Joe Nevills, sales editor of the Daily Racing Form and columnist for Arabian Finish Line, analyzes the Kentucky Derby field in post position order in the form of haiku – a Japanese poem of 17 syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five.

Even though He Who Cannot Be Named is my fav, I couldn’t be happier if Gormley pulls it off. Always hoping for the best for all the Moss horses. Just hope Uncle MO gets in.
Good Derby Day to all my friends here on the blog. Save traveling to all the horses.

Wishing our jumps legend Sir AP McCoy a very Happy Birthday and wishing HRH The Duke of Edinburgh the best of health in the coming years after the announcement he is to retire from public duties this autumn.Thank you for your service.

Many things going on to be sure. First may Red Rum and Papillion be looking down on all of those running this weekend and a few that run a bit before as in Night Prowler. Best Wishes, Good Luck and may you run swiftly and safely. Since I could make a case for just about all of the horses running in the Derby, all I can hope for is that everybody runs safely no matter what place they finish in. If I forgot anybody or anything I apologize. Again, Best Wishes and Good Luck to Everybody.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Martha,
That says it all! And very nicely, too.
Thanks for posting.

Tales from the Crib: Thunder Snow
May 1, 2017 Kellie Reilly/Brisnet.com
If UAE Derby (G2) hero Thunder Snow can land a blow at Churchill Downs, he would be a fitting first Kentucky Derby (G1) winner for the Godolphin empire built by Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum of Dubai.
Descending from the same female line as Godolphin’s first-ever European classic heroine, Balanchine, Thunder Snow is the equine embodiment of Sheikh Mohammed’s global vision. The homebred colt’s ancestry combines Australian, European, and American bloodlines, all collected and distilled through Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley bloodstock operation.

Thanks for this link — very interesting background information on Thunder Snow and Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum’s fine operations. The photo of Thunder Snow is beautiful — he is a gorgeous bay with rich color! Best wishes to him and safe racing.

I would like to recommend a PBS documentary named “Thoroughbred: Born to Run”. It is produced by Kentucky Educational Television and can be purchased on DVD from PBS. I think that all Zenyatta fans would enjoy this video.
Good luck & safe trips to all horses & riders in the Derby on Saturday. Only one horse can win the race each year, but each horse running has to be special to make it this far. Royal Mo, I would be rooting for you if you were running. Now I will be giving my support to Gormley & hoping for another win for the Mosses & the rest of Team Z.
Mamma Z, I am really excited that you will soon give your fans another beautiful foal to love. May everything go smoothly for you & baby to be. God bless the Mosses, Team Z & Lanes End staff for the wonderful care they give you & also for keeping us updated on you & your babies.

Sad to hear that 4 time group one winner Postponed has been retired due to a stress fracture.Sheikh Obaid showed great sportsmanship by keeping him in training at 6yrs of age.Roger Varian has paid a glowing tribute to his stable star calling him’the complete racehorse’His wins include the Dubai Sheema classic.Juddmonte International and Coronation cup plus the King George and Queen Elizabeth at Ascot.Wishing him all the best for the future.

Finally! Derby weekend is here. Go Gormley. Dearest Z I can’t wait until the new little one arrives. Praying for safe delivery. We had a small tornado Wednesday. Stripped my blueberry bushes bare. All that matters is we all survived and no massive damage. Has Terry Crow visited lately? Best redneck jokes ever.
judy berube
Dear Vicki:
Wow, glad you are safe and no serious damage. Miss TC and his jokes too. All horses safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Vicki,
Happy to hear from you and that you had no major damage from that tornado. We haven’t heard from Terry C. in quite some time. I am worried about him — he is greatly missed.
Take care and enjoy the Derby!
Hugs and Love

The phone rings in Kentucky
Gun Runner: Hello.
Biscuits: Hey, Gun, it’s Biscuits.
Gun Runner: Ha ha. Glad to hear from you. How’s it going?
Biscuits: Pretty good. Did you hear that I won an award for NY horses?
Gun Runner: Sure did. That’s getting one for the chestnuts.
Biscuits: I’m happy, but I’ve slipped down the ratings board. A filly is now ahead of me.
Gun Runner: Count yourself lucky. I’ve got Arro ahead of me.
Biscuits: Heard that you’re running in the Stephen Foster.
Gun Runner: Yep. I figure it might impress Zenyatta if I get that one. Her dad won it.
Biscuits: I’ll be cheering for you. What do you think of the KD? You’re right in the center of things.
Gun River: I’d like to be running. Another shot at that race would be great. But I’m backing Steve’s horses. I’m not stupid. I like my treats and plenty of them. Food on time too.
Biscuits: What about that Arro look alike?
Gun Runner: Neigh!

Dear Max:

When Biscuits is without that hood, you can see the same white mark as Gun has on his forehead. I think that Biscuits is back in NY and training again. Probably going to Saratoga this summer. Gun is training at Churchill.
