Dear fans,
It’s an exciting time of the year. The Derby is approaching, and Zenyatta is preparing to give birth to her fifth foal. She is in great health and on track for a mid-May foaling. We will keep you posted as the big day nears. Alys took some great images of Zenyatta on Friday enjoying a beautiful Kentucky spring day.
Enjoy!

Dear Judy:I have just been watching Victor live on FB with Gormley getting ready for his trip to Kentucky.Untapable is carrying a Frankel colt. The Dyfi find Blue’s situation so sad.She and Monty are still the ‘best of friends’ but no where for her to lay eggs this year.Blue 5F has laid an egg at Glaslyn.Obviously Aran has been a naughty boy!.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Dear Sheena:
Safe travels to Gormley and all the horses. Oh, what potential for success that baby will have. Feel so sad for Blue; maybe next year will be better for her. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB

Oregon was 2nd today. Its only his third race and he’s done a bit better with every race. Maybe next time. I too dislike greyhound racing. Also, just because I reported something about Gormley and Ziconic doesn’t mean I agree with that tactic that was used. That really would have been something if Coz had been the pace horse.
Good Night to Everyone! May you have a sparkling day tomorrow.

Dear Martha:
Thanks for this info on Oregon. Godspeed next time. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Martha,
Watched the video of Oregon’s race. He was pretty wide a lot of the way,.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Watched the entire Gormley prep live on Facebook, and just wanted to note that Zoe C said that Ziconic would be having he own workout next week (as in, I don’t think they have given up on him). Victor was aboard Ziconic because John deemed him an excellent judge of the pace he wanted Gormely to run against, and he also wanted to give Victor a unique look at Gormley. The whole thing was really fascinating – a great look at the backside at Santa Anita, John’s instructions to both Victor and the exercise rider, the prep itself, a look at Gormley in the saddling enclosure doing figure 8’s after the workout, and a surprise visit by Dottie and Sophie. If you are on FB, search “xbtv live” to find the entire thing. Move the counter ahead to 23 minutes (the first 22 are just random shots of horses on the track). Well worth a look.

Dear Sandy:
Thanks for reporting this good news. Not all of our beloved horses can be stars; they give their all and do the best they can. Would love to see COZ and ZI win their Maiden races soon. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy, I do so hope we hear from Arrogate, Gun Runner and Bisquits on their pic for the Derby. Do you think they’ll show their hand though. Oops that’s Hoof. LOL

Hi Sandy. Thanks for your explanation. I didn’t see what was on Facebook. Just reporting what I read. Of the two boys, I think I might be a bit more concerned about Coz. Ziconic at least does try and I feel certain that we will see or hear about him in the winner’s circle. Time and Patience. Speaking of which, now that May is here we can begin pacing in earnest. Best Wishes and Hugs to Queen Z and her team.

Dear Max.Because Frankel came on the scene so soon after STS’s a few forgot about his amazing wins in 2009.I don’t normally compare horses but I loved STS as much as Frankel and it was fantastic how John Oxx kept him in peak condition from April through to October that year. I had always wished he could have raced at 4.This is why I love the jumps old friends return each season.

Dear Judy:Did you see the photo of little Charlotte today? She turns 2 tomorrow. Some of the comments though leave a lot to be desired.

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks so much for posting these links regarding Patch. He just gained one more fan in addition to you! Patch is an amazing guy. It could have been illuminating to have done a biopsy on that eye tissue — seems they missed the chance to solve this mystery. Oh well, I love that Patch has adjusted smoothly. Hope he has good luck in the Derby and is always safe, sound and loved.

What a courageous boy. Joining his fan club too. Best of luck to Mr. Patch this first Saturday in May.

Judy,
Add one more to the Patch fan club. Hope he can make it with that field of 19 other horses. He is well bred out of Union Rags. Most of all safe trip to him. Think he and Lee are going to get a little of my money.

Dear Marshall, Ann, Shirlee, Pam, Peggy and Z Fans:
Here’s the replay of Patch finishing second to Girvin in the Louisiana Derby. He is by Union Rags out of Windy Indy (AP Indy). He has Secretariat on both sides. Amazing how he maneuvered from the rail to come between horses and finish 2nd. Not familiar with his jockey, Tyler Gaffalione. He’s only raced three times; 1 win and 2 seconds. Love this Baby Boy. Looks like it might be muddy in Louisville on Saturday. Hope He Who Cannot Be Named is good in mud. His big brother was. Always worry about all of them in the mud especially these big fields. My prayers will be with Patch and his jockey. Don’t think it will happen but it would be great to see Calumet back in the winners circle.
Peggy,
I will be watching and praying for a safe trip for Night Prowler. Love his name..
judy berube
Dear Shirlee and Z Fans:
Shirlee, yes, I checked the forecast for Louisville and they are calling for rain. Who knows, the track could dry out by Derby time.
There is another Calumet colt in the race. His name is Hence by Street Boss (Street Cry) out of Floating Island (AP Indy). He’s caught my eye because of the Z connection. He’s won on a sloppy track.
He Who Cannot Be Named has never raced on an off track, but he might take to it very well. I’m praying for Patch too. Just want them all to come back safe and sound.
Here are the PPs for the Derby. Love and Hugs, JB
