Dear fans,

It’s an exciting time of the year. The Derby is approaching, and Zenyatta is preparing to give birth to her fifth foal. She is in great health and on track for a mid-May foaling. We will keep you posted as the big day nears. Alys took some great images of Zenyatta on Friday enjoying a beautiful Kentucky spring day.

    Dear Judy:I have just been watching Victor live on FB with Gormley getting ready for his trip to Kentucky.Untapable is carrying a Frankel colt.The Dyfi find Blue’s situation so sad.She and Monty are still the ‘best of friends’ but no where for her to lay eggs this year.Blue 5F has laid an egg at Glaslyn.Obviously Aran has been a naughty boy!.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

    Oregon was 2nd today. Its only his third race and he’s done a bit better with every race. Maybe next time. I too dislike greyhound racing. Also, just because I reported something about Gormley and Ziconic doesn’t mean I agree with that tactic that was used. That really would have been something if Coz had been the pace horse.

      Watched the entire Gormley prep live on Facebook, and just wanted to note that Zoe C said that Ziconic would be having he own workout next week (as in, I don’t think they have given up on him). Victor was aboard Ziconic because John deemed him an excellent judge of the pace he wanted Gormely to run against, and he also wanted to give Victor a unique look at Gormley. The whole thing was really fascinating – a great look at the backside at Santa Anita, John’s instructions to both Victor and the exercise rider, the prep itself, a look at Gormley in the saddling enclosure doing figure 8’s after the workout, and a surprise visit by Dottie and Sophie. If you are on FB, search “xbtv live” to find the entire thing. Move the counter ahead to 23 minutes (the first 22 are just random shots of horses on the track). Well worth a look.

    Hi Sandy. Thanks for your explanation. I didn’t see what was on Facebook. Just reporting what I read. Of the two boys, I think I might be a bit more concerned about Coz. Ziconic at least does try and I feel certain that we will see or hear about him in the winner’s circle. Time and Patience. Speaking of which, now that May is here we can begin pacing in earnest.     Dear Max.Because Frankel came on the scene so soon after STS’s a few forgot about his amazing wins in 2009.I don’t normally compare horses but I loved STS as much as Frankel and it was fantastic how John Oxx kept him in peak condition from April through to October that year. I had always wished he could have raced at 4.This is why I love the jumps old friends return each season.

    Dear Judy:Did you see the photo of little Charlotte today?She turns 2 tomorrow.Some of the comments though leave a lot to be desired.
    Sprinter left for his new home today in the Cotswolds with eventer Spencer Sturmey I will be able to follow his adventures on FB.His owner Caroline Mould lives locally so will see him regularly.They are going to take their time with him and see what he enjoys the most.Great start to the season for Minding.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

        Thanks so much for posting these links regarding Patch. He just gained one more fan in addition to you! Patch is an amazing guy. It could have been illuminating to have done a biopsy on that eye tissue — seems they missed the chance to solve this mystery. Oh well, I love that Patch has adjusted smoothly.     For those of you on Facebook, on Spendthrift’s page there is a video of Gormley in his stall and going to the track. Victor is in it (don’t think Gormley likes him), John, Jerry, Dottie and ANN.

    I saw the post about Barbaro’s birthday and thought I would share that Nicamore, son of Nicanor Barbaro’s younger brother will be racing tomorrow in race 8 at Thistledown. Best of Luck to this young one who will be turning 3 (chronologically) on May 11.

    Here’s the replay of Patch finishing second to Girvin in the Louisiana Derby. He is by Union Rags out of Windy Indy (AP Indy). He has Secretariat on both sides. Amazing how he maneuvered from the rail to come between horses and finish 2nd. Not familiar with his jockey, Tyler Gaffalione. He’s only raced three times; 1 win and 2 seconds. Love this Baby Boy.     Looks like it might be muddy in Louisville on Saturday. Hope He Who Cannot Be Named is good in mud. His big brother was. Always worry about all of them in the mud especially these big fields. My prayers will be with Patch and his jockey. Don’t think it will happen but it would be great to see Calumet back in the winners circle.
