Happy Monday!
We thought we’d share some photos of spring’s special moments. The Mosses celebrated Mother’s Day with an incredibly sweet cake representing Zenyatta and her filly. The Easter filly, who now has a special foal tag inscribed with her nickname “Z Princess,” was recently reacquainted with her Easter Bunny and other birthday spoils. Alys sent us these photos.
Enjoy!

On “DRF Derby” Steve Andersen tweeted, “Candy Boy, 13th in Ky. Derby, will skip Belmont Stakes in favor of Los Alamitos Derby on July 5, trainer John Sadler said on Monday.” Karen G. posted it on FB, and it prompted discussion of too many owners not wanting to run against California Chrome.
While I can understand that sentiment, and the wish to win — still, I am glad Sham didn’t bail out against Secretariat. He showed up and tried 3 times, with excellent results — no shame.

The beautiful Alydar, as well, tried three times against Affirmed. No shame at all; exciting races. Love and Hugs, JB

Suddenly the hour is gone-and it is anybody’s guess what we did with it. Did we enjoy anything? U li lo hv s gi, pleasant times are for a purpose, the Cherokee believes. It is not just u wo tiv di, something to amuse us, but pleasure slows the heart, lowers the blood pressure, and gives ease to the mind. Something beyond the awareness tries to slow the human spirit from living so intensely. It is not natural to push the mind and body until such weariness takes over that there is no natural relief. A pause, a a tsa we so lv s di, which means a reprieve or rest, will give us strength and renewed vision. Without it, we are burned out and we enjoy nothing.
Lots of us may not have learned yet…we all have brains and are anxious to work.

Glad to see that Fubu got some nourishment. He’s such a fighter! Little Zoe didn’t get the day off yesterday. She made many visits in her rounds. Would love to meet that little sweetie in person! I’m sure mommy will get out her needle and thread and froggy will be good as new. Marty’s map is really filling up. His selfie was adorable. Glad the weather on the Dyfi is better. Monty is such a good little papa. I hope Hovis’s mom doesn’t put a pink rain coat on him. He would be SO embarrassed! Boo and Buddy adorable as always. Those two puppies can’t take a bad picture. War Front takeover spreads to Australia
By Bloodstock World Staff 11:33AM 27 MAY 2014
AUSTRALIA will be home to two sons of War Front this season after it was announced dual Grade 1 winner The Factor will shuttle from the US to Newgate Farm
in New South Wales.
The Lane’s End Stud resident will be joined in Australia by Queen Anne Stakes hero Declaration Of War, who will stand at Coolmore’s southern hemisphere base in the Hunter Valley.
The Factor, who was trained by Bob Baffert to win the Grade 1 Pat O’Brien Stakes and Malibu Stakes, both over seven furlongs, retired to Lane’s End in 2013 for a
fee of $15,000. His first crop of foals arrived this season.

Delrene
Dear Lane’s End and especially Queen Zenyatta and Princess Z. No I have not forgotten you all, for even a moment. I have just not had the precious spare time of late. These photos are quite the tonic on a post Memorial Day Tuesday. Thank you so much Lane’s End and all. Just wonderful to see the girls enjoying all their special treats. I hope Queen Z will get to watch California Chrome in his Belmont race to harness a Triple Crown victory. He and his connections are an amazing group, so much like you and yours are such an inspiration to so many. I hope I can visit more often. It is of course, my loss. I hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day and in remembrance of those who have fallen, may they rest in eternal peace . We honor those who are serving in today’s Armed Forces and thank you so much for your service. You are so precious to all of us. Have a wonderful week everyone.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Good to hear from you Delrene. I haven’t heard anything lately about the fires out there and hope that things are under control. I know that you were very close to the “action” so to speak, but Barbara Wood let us know that you were OK. We’re glad that you’re back. Sandy
Terry Crow
The fires apparently have all been put out. No mention of them at all in the news lately. However, it may be that the TV stations feel the public has a short attention span. As one who studied journalism in college, I find the lack if follow-up stories appalling.
KathyR
Dear Terry, Sandy, Judy and Delrene: Very pleased to hear (or rather not hear) about the fires. Do agree with you Terry, the lack of follow-up is very poor – and must be a worldwide thing, happens down here all the time.

I’m still basking in the Gold Cup win. Mission is marvellous. He’s now allowing his peeps to remove that hood. Really amazing. For awhile I was not certain who he looked like. Now we know, Sadler’s Wells and Northern Dancer, although he seems less intense than Northern Dancer or his maternal granddaddy, Danzig. Might be like Kind.
Read that Frankel likes to chase pheasants and ducks out of his paddock. Big D would do that, including people as we know. Good thing that the Chrome let the opossum alone on the track at Belmont.
Power up Danny.

KathyR
Dear Judy and Bluegrass Girl:
Suspected she had been sold to an overseas interest when Magic Millions didn’t initially list the details of the purchaser. Hopefully she will be a good broodmare for them (I’m assuming they won’t race her) and so have a long and happy life at Stonestreet. The Teeley dispersal is certainly a great opportunity for buyers to replace or add to their stock, they have some real gems there. Hugs, KathyR.
KathyR
Dear Judy and Bluegrass Girl:
I apologise for sounding curt regarding the sale of Barbie. I just wish all horses had owners as caring and loving as Mr and Mrs Moss. Just looking at the magical Zenyatta with her Princess – I want that for all the broodmares, and for their foals to have the devotion that comes with belonging to such decent people. But it’s hard to go down the lists at sales and see horses that were favourites when they raced going for paltry amounts and being treated as a commodity. I apologise again, it’s been a lousy period of time for racing here. Please look after our mares. Love and hugs, KathyR.
Max
KathyR. If your favorite has gone to Stonestreet, she will be well taken care of. It is nevertheless tough to lose them to a faraway land.

Max-How true. I offer Sunday Silence as an example.

Sheena. Agree. Disappointing. The Derby isn’t for another week. A lot can happen with the ground. They gave up the KD for Epsom, and now they are passing on it? Dear Max: Pleased that they’re not rushing to send her to the breeding barn – she’s only 3 and very fit, plenty of time to be a Mum. And absolutely delighted that she will be under the care of Peter and Paul Snowden – former Darley trainers who have branched out on their own.

Too much is learned that adds nothing to life. With the advent of “tell it like it is” the flow of troubled water washed in a mountain of debris. The unlearned feel it necessary to empty their garbage into the ears of other people without considering whether anyone wants to hear it. U yo tsv hi, the Cherokee calls it-not music, not poetry, not gracious words-but pure trash. The container may be new and shiny and touched with bits of colorful paint-but inside is the same old decaying ga da ha, (spoken with disgust), and the word is filth. Little things reveal much about a person-but none more than what he talks about, what he laughs at, what he finds amusing-or even helpful. No matter how beautiful or handsome-the tongue tells all.
Yesterday I heard something that made me almost cry.
