Canberra trainer tackles three venues

A day in the life of Canberra’s Matthew Dale is this week set to test any notion that the pressures on a modern racehorse trainer can be justified by the rewards available.
Already one of the busier trainers in the country, Dale has a day on Friday that isn’t to be envied – unless it produces a couple of winners.
Dale begins his day with regular training duties that begin before dawn, he has a runner in an afternoon trial at Canberra followed by three more at the twilight meeting at the same track, another two at the Canterbury night meeting and yet another at 900km away at Moonee Valley.

Trina. This might be a friendship like Kincsem and her cat?
Trina Nagele in SoCal
Right you are, Max! The story of Kincsem and her cat always makes me smile too! For those as yet unfamiliar with Kincsem (Hungarian for “My Treasure,” 1874–1887), she was the winningest Thoroughbred ever, winning every single one of her 54 (yes, 54!) starts. Her races were as long as 2 1/2 miles and with weights up to 168 pounds. She raced all over Europe and was happy to travel, but only if her cat was with her. Here is a story about that, as told by our Dumpling friend Cynthia Holt back when the Blog was the Diary:
“There’s a story about the great racemare Kincsem. She had a barn cat that she loved dearly. Kincsem travelled by train to races all over Europe, and her cat went with her. She had just returned by ship from England to France after winning the Goodwood Cup. She was unloaded from the ship, but no one could find the cat. Kincsem refused to move and whinnied for the cat for two hours. She only calmed down when the cat was finally located. She then boarded her train with the cat riding on her back. (Kincsem and Zenyatta share many qualities besides their winning ways: needing to have their favorite water with them when they travelled; affection for barn cats and grooms, devoted owners, passionate fans, and an ongoing flirtation with the public….) There is a beautiful bronze of the great Kincsem (which I believe may have been Zenyatta in a previous life!) in the gorgeous Chandelier Room at Santa Anita.”

Thanks,Trina.

We thank him for the love that has filled our home for years.
Life may not be easy and we have had our share of ups and downs.
But through it all we discovered the love that brings life into the
world, allowing us to share in the miracle of birth and the joy of seeing
other children/adults grow.
We thank him for the blessing of kind friends and family in our lives. We
are so surprised by the joy our friends and family bring to us as we are in
their constant company, we did not know life could be this good.
We thank Him for the friends who stand by us in tough times, for the mentors
who believe in us and more than believe in ourselves, and for the teachers who encourage us to think and question, teaching us the difference between truth
and falsehoods.
We thank him for those rare souls who lift us when we are laid low by the sheer
envy, jealous, insecurity, and unpleasantness some people may bring to life.
We thank him for the people we meet everyday who light up the world with simple gestures of humanity and decency.
Amen
HAVE A BLESSED AND WONDERFUL DAY.

DAILY RACING FORM: SAM HOUSTON PARK, Houston, Texas – LADIES CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND (Joyful Victory come to town, and Larry Jones)
01/23/2013 4:06PM
Sam Houston: Sisterly Love supplemented to inaugural Ladies Classic
By Mary Rampellini
Bob Coglianese
Sisterly Love, a 5-year-old who is undefeated in three career starts, was supplemented to the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic.
Sisterly Love, who is undefeated in three career starts, will be making her stakes debut in Saturday night’s $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic after supplementing to the race’s inaugural running for $10,000 when entries were taken Wednesday. In all, a field of six fillies and mares will go in what will be the richest race ever run at Sam Houston Race Park, which opened in 1994.
The Houston Ladies Classic is slotted as the ninth race on a card of four stakes that also includes the Grade 3, $200,000 John B. Connally Cup led by Grade 2 winner Willcox Inn. The Houston Ladies Classic, which will be run over a mile and a sixteenth, has a post of 9:45 p.m. Central.
Sisterly Love will be making her first start for owner Gary Barber and trainer Mark Casse after launching her career last year for her breeder, Kinsman Farm, and trainer William White. She won her debut by 11 lengths at Calder on Oct. 27, then proceeded to clear her first and second-level allowance conditions in one-turn mile races at Gulfstream Park in December. Sisterly Love, who is a daughter of Bellamy Road, will break from post 4 under jockey Luis Saez.
The complete Houston Ladies Classic field from the rail with riders is Joyful Victory, Rosie Napravnik; Brushed by a Star, Corey Lanerie; Summer Applause, Miguel Mena; Sisterly Love; She’s All In, Luis Quinonez; and Lookinforchange, Rohan Singh.
She’s All In shipped from her Oaklawn base to Sam Houston on Wednesday, according to her trainer, Donnie Von Hemel.
The Connally Cup, which had previously been the highlight of the Sam Houston meet, drew a field of 10. Willcox Inn, who was second to eventual Horse of the Year Wise Dan in last fall’s Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland, will be making his first start since finishing ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. He drew post 9 for Saturday night’s mile and an eighth turf race. Trainer Michael Stidham has given the mount to James Graham.
Also set to start in the Connally is Grade 1 Jamaica winner King David, who is to be ridden by Napravnik. The field also includes stakes winners Swift Warrior, who ships in from Florida for trainer John Terranova, and Lockout, trained by Casse.
The Connally goes as the eighth race, with a post of 9:15 p.m. Central.
The other stakes on the card are the $50,000 Allen’s Landing for 3-year-olds that drew Fair Grounds stakes winner Tour Guide, and the $75,000 Champion Energy Services Stakes led by past Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Chamberlain Bridge.
For each fan in attendance Saturday night at Sam Houston, the track will donate $1 to the Houston chapter of Susan G. Komen For the Cure, which fights breast cancer. The Houston Ladies Classic is scheduled to be broadcast on both HRTV and Fox Sports Southwest. First post is 6 p.m. Central.

Dear Judy, Janet and Sheena,
All those mirrors !!! Really building his ego thinking he has all those
horses around, a really large herd, and maybe a challenge to watch oneself as the rider.
Just like a ballet studio !!!

Dear Ann NC,
Too cute. Poor guy, just a slow collected canter. No more fun,
fun galloping. Can hardly wait to see him show in dressage.

Dear Max, Keta and Z Fans:
Yes, we’re getting the same here in NE as NY. Temps in the 20’s in the day and some nights single digits. Better for the horses and riders not to race in these very cold temps. Hugs, JB

Dear Zenny Fans, Dumplings and All,
We thank him for the love that has filled our home for years.

Dear Judy B,
We have heard so much about Mr. Kronfeld, but to hear him speak
about Zenny, “V” and “E” is very special. A very lovely man,
how could he not have horses with wonderful temperments.

DAILY RACING FORM: SAM HOUSTON PARK, Houston, Texas – LADIES CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND (Joyful Victory come to town, and Larry Jones)

Central.

Dear Kathy R and Zenny Fans,
Now I know why you thought Zenny had an insect over her right eye on
that one photo. They do grow them very big and not too cute, down under.
