Groupie Doll to Rest, Target Fall Campaign
By Frank Angst, The Blood-Horse Updated: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 7:23 PM
Champion female sprinter Groupie Doll will be turned out with plans to target a fall racing campaign after trainer William “Buff” Bradley thought she appeared to be off her game in recent days at Gulfstream Park.
Bradley hopes to return the 5-year-old daughter of Bowman’s Band to training in early May at Churchill Downs with plans to race in the fall. A recent veterinary exam of Groupie Doll found no injury or illness, but Bradley doesn’t like what he sees in the mornings on the Gulfstream Park track from the three-time grade I winner.

Here is Tessa. Why does she look like this? I quote her previous owner,” Didn’t need or ride her any more.” As hard as this is to believe, Tessa actually looks better here than she did when they found her. You can only imagine how she must have looked like when the Animal Cruelty investigators first found her. Now, this beauty, this fine older lady, is suffering and could die because she wasn’t “needed” and apparently didn’t exist for the months she suffered either. It’s heartbreaking, it really is. How low certain humans can go…sad.
I feel hopeless, and I feel like I am failing her, because I can’t save her. I want to give her more than love. I want her to feel good again, and to prance around like the queen of the pasture. But I can’t, and that, feels like a failure.
If you look up their Facebook page, she’s on there. Gin probably has been too busy to get it up yet. That woman does everything, she is truly bionic woman.
Here is another link, in case the one posted above isn’t working.
She is a beautiful girl!
I just do not understand how callous people can be with their animals.
If you cannot take care of them, find another home, but no, it is easier to neglect them.
I agree with Judy Berube, you are not a failure.
Tessa I know feels loved and cared for. If she does not pull through at least she’ll have known some days of wonderful from very loving individuals.
Max
Pati. I am just sick about this. It is awful to hear about such cruelty to a creature of God. You and the other rescuers however are bright lights, doing wonderful and positive things for this mare. Keep on praying that she will recover. Power up Tessa.
You’re not a failure and none of the people at SHERR are either. Tessa didn’t get help soon enough because of neglect by her owner not by you or SHERR. I will keep praying for her and all of you. You are doing all that is possible now to keep her comfortable. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Pati,
You definitely are not a failure! I tried to post last night, but my computer was having problems. I did access the gratefulness.org/candles site and lit some candles for Tessa on the Zenny page. I sure hope this helps.
I am so sorry that this sweet creature has had to endure this awful treatment. I am totally ashamed of our human species for committing such abuse as this owner has done. Thanks to SHERR for giving Tessa the care and love that she so richly deserves. Prayers and positive thoughts sent in abundance to Tessa and her caregivers.
Z’sters, please light some candles and send donations to SHERR.
Pati, thank you for all you do. Hugs!
Attention: http://www.gratefulness.org and click on the Light a candle link. Go to search and enter “zenny” in the group box. This worked for me, but if anyone has the official site, please post. Thanks! Hugs!
The foster that has her now has done so much for her. She wanted to socialize with the horses earlier in the week, and looked spunky, but she had that bad weekend. I haven’t heard any news from the SHERR page, so I guess she’s ok for the time being. SHERR should post something about her soon.

That’s encouraging. Let’s hope she keeps improving. Love ad Hugs, JB

No systemic racing corruption: Vic inquiry
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 23/1/2013 at 11:15am
A six-month inquiry into Victoria’s racing industry has found no evidence of systemic corruption.
Racing Integrity Commissioner Sal Perna said his investigations led to a number of inquiries, but only one has resulted in a prosecution.
“Based on current evidence, race fixing is not a systemic issue in Victoria,” Mr Perna said.
The inquiry, which had no powers to compel anyone to give evidence, relied on information offered voluntarily.
Mr Perna said he received 61 “information reports” from the time the investigation was instigated last August.
Despite his conclusion that Victorian racing is free of endemic race-fixing, Mr Perna made 11 recommendations in his report released on Wednesday, mostly relating to the need for the industry to have greater coercive powers and for the introduction of legislation to enable police to share information with racing authorities.

Dear Keta: Heard your mate talking about this issue this morning – it’s also been discussed elsewhere in racing circles (obviously). I don’t think anyone down here seriously thought it was systemic – but it’s been worrying just how many ratbags have popped up recently. Probably mainly due to more thorough investigation by authorities, but it’s still disheartening when it’s a horse/s you have followed. Thanks very much for the post! Hugs, KathyR.
Dominguez moved to NYC hospital
NBC Sports Horse Racing Associated Press Sports
updated 7:33 p.m. ET Jan. 22, 2013
NEW YORK (AP) – Jockey Ramon Dominguez has been transferred to a Manhattan hospital as he recovers from a skull fracture suffered in a spill at Aqueduct last week.
Dominguez was moved on Tuesday from Jamaica Hospital in Queens, where he was in the intensive care unit, to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
“Ramon is doing really well and resting comfortably,” his wife Sharon said in a statement.
“I can’t thank the doctors and staff enough at Jamaica Hospital for the superb care they provided to Ramon. With an injury like this, we thought it was important to seek a second opinion, which is why we decided to change hospitals.”
There is no timetable for when he will be released from the hospital, or when he might resume riding. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/50555538/ns/sports-horse_racing/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
THIS IS SUPERB NEWS! He has been moved to the best hospital in Manhattan (not my opinion–this hospital is always highly rated). Whew–now i can breathe easier about him. Jamaica Hospital is only good for triage and first aid, believe me. It’s an overburdened public hospital–way overburdened. I know that because i lived in the next town for many years and heard and read all the bad reports. I am so happy he is in a better place…he deserves the best.
Skip Ean
i am with you on this.
Lived in Manhattan. Agree that Ramon is in one of the best hospitals.

Dear Kathy R,
Had a really busy day yesterday, “hit the ground running” as we
say here after a morning conference call that really puts a damper on
the progress of your day. Then Teddy, my Vizla, had class.
He did a rally pre-novice course like a champ, amazing he is so
unfocused. Have been taking him for underwater treadmill, balance
and gait work and it seems to really help. Maybe he will be ready
for competition soon ????
Great night for seeing tennis legends!

Dear Keta: Sorry, but Serena has dropped out – I think she lost the match – has developed a back problem. (You can tell by this post that I know absolutely nothing about tennis, except that it’s played by crazy people who don’t seem to understand that you get very hot in that sport, and sensible people try and stay cool when it’s over 30 degrees!!)
Kathy R
Serena did finish the match. But, you are right, she did get injured.
Sloane Stephens a 19 year old American beat Serena Williams who is now 31.
I call it the changing of the guard.
Andy Murray is playing great tennis. He is now in the semi-finals.
I was lucky enough to attend several US Opens when I lived in New York City.
Also saw Lindsey Davenport win the gold in Atlanta in the 1996 Summer Olympics. They were held Jul 19 – Aug 4,
Crazy people were only playing in the heat.
They were sitting in the heat.

Zenny’s beauty has not dimmed. The wisdom and serenity within her still shines through. I look at her and feel peaceful and I am still filled with wonder at who she is, what she has done, and what she has meant to millions of people. This is the horse of the ages. Still young, yet her legend grows…constantly grows. Millions of us are in love with this horse–spiritually and gratefully drawn to her and to her beauty. These photos bring it all back to me in an instant.
Judy B. and Janet Newman, thanks for your positive thoughts about Rightful Image! :-)
Kathy R: does Terry Crow know about your National Anthem? Wow.
Keta: thanks for that link on a Weekend to Remember–enjoyable reading!
Delrene: happy, happy birthday to you. And, thanks again Trina!
For those speaking of gray horses, does anyone else remember a few years ago Calder had a Gray Pride Day? It was in the summer because we watched on a monitor at Del Mar. We were fascinated–at least Fifty Shades of Grey (sorry, couldn’t resist.)
So so sorry about Tessa. Oh my.
And, pleased to learn of Ramon D. getting a second opinion and let’s hope to a better place of care.
Dear Anne: Our National Anthem is actually called “Advance Australia Fair” which is a shocker. The song I referred to is called “Waltzing Matilda” and a large number of people think it should be the National Anthem. Given that one of the greatest “heroes” in the country is a character called Ned Kelly who stole horses and shot policemen, maybe that should have been the case! PS: Love the Gray Pride Day comment! Hugs, KathyR.
Zenyatta, 12 Z, Beautiful pictures. Zenyatta hang in there, and 12 Z you be good. Love Ya both very much.

If you look up their Facebook page, she’s on there. Gin probably has been too busy to get it up yet. That woman does everything, she is truly bionic woman.
Here is another link, in case the one posted above isn’t working.

She has the most beautiful face.

Thanks, Pati, for this link. The other one didn’t work. She is so precious. I do hope and pray she is feeling loved right now. Hugs.

Dear Pati:
You’re not a failure and none of the people at SHERR are either. Tessa didn’t get help soon enough because of neglect by her owner not by you or SHERR. I will keep praying for her and all of you. You are doing all that is possible now to keep her comfortable. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Pati: Sending prayers to you and Tessa: she’s beautiful. Come on St. Francis, it’s time to get Tessa well. Hugs, Kathy R.

Dear Pati,
You definitely are not a failure!
Hugs!
Marshall (NC broad)
Attention: http://www.gratefulness.org and click on the Light a candle link. Go to search and enter “zenny” in the group box. This worked for me, but if anyone has the official site, please post. Thanks! Hugs!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Done! Thanks, Marshall. I’m glad to know how to “get in” to the site without a specifi link.

I am so happy he is in a better place…he deserves the best.

i am with you on this.
Lived in Manhattan. Agree that Ramon is in one of the best hospitals.
I had bi-lateral hip surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery next door

Dear Kathy R,
Had a really busy day yesterday, “hit the ground running” as we
say here after a morning conference call that really puts a damper on
the progress of your day. Then Teddy, my Vizla, had class.
He did a rally pre-novice course like a champ, amazing he is so
unfocused. Have been taking him for underwater treadmill, balance
and gait work and it seems to really help. Maybe he will be ready
for competition soon ????

Great night for seeing tennis legends!

along with fellow #AusOpen legend Ken Rosewall

Dear Keta: Sorry, but Serena has dropped out – I think she lost the match – has developed a back problem. (You can tell by this post that I know absolutely nothing about tennis, except that it’s played by crazy people who don’t seem to understand that you get very hot in that sport, and sensible people try and stay cool when it’s over 30 degrees!!)
Keta

Beautifully said and true.

I agree…and that’s what makes this such a special place.

Judy B. and Janet Newman, thanks for your positive thoughts about Rightful Image!
Sweet dreams, Zenny, our QUEEN.

Dear Anne of Paramount:
Too funny. Laughing out loud. Love and Hugs, JB
Kathy R.

Dear Kathy R.:
