The rich history of shuttle stallions
Horses have gone back and forth between hemispheres for more than 150 years, and in Redoute’s Choice the Aga Khan has brought to Europe a stallion who should cut the ice
Tony Morris Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder Tuesday, January 29, 2013
Numerous sports now flourishing in many parts of the world had their origins in England, and because they were invented here it was a long time before we were prepared to acknowledge that other countries were actually more proficient at them.
It was in August 1882 that, according to the famous announcement in The Sporting Times, English cricket died at the Oval, the Ashes being sent to Australia. The obituary notice may have been premature but it did amount to an acknowledgement that one of the colonies had caught up. In football we maintained our arrogance way beyond the instigation of the World Cup in 1930, declined to enter the competition until 1950, then were humiliated 1-0 by the USA. If we could find excuses for that, there were none three years later when Hungary came to Wembley and showed us how the game should be played in a 6-3 victory. Only then did we finally accept that we were no longer the masters. http://www.ownerbreeder.co.uk/2013/01/the-rich-history-of-shuttle-stallions/

Rightful Image injures suspensory
Rightful Image, who was pulled up in Thursday’s sixth race when contending for the lead, was diagnosed with a suspensory injury, trainer Mike Machowsky said Friday. Rightful Image was the even-money favorite in the $25,000 claimer.
Machowsky said that Rightful Image did not sustain any sesamoid damage.
“He should be fine to live a normal life,” he said. “He won’t run again. He should be fine for a riding horse. We need to get him through the next week.” http://www.drf.com/news/santa-anita-sky-kingdom-eyes-santa-anita-handicap-after-return-win

Team America: Dubai World Cup Nominations
Horse Racing Nation Blog 1/30/2013 3:41 AM
Excerpt from article: See link below for full article & list of Nominations
.Taking a look at the American nominations, there are a few big names that have been pointed to these races for months, and there are few surprises.
Royal Delta (World Cup): This 2 time champion is one tough mare. After a rough trip in last year’s World Cup, she looks for retribution on the synthetic surface of Meydan racecourse. Trainer Bill Mott plans to have her prep for the World Cup in the same fashion as last year with the grade 3 Sabin stakes. Unlike many of the other Americans making the trip, Royal Delta is committed for one thing, and one thing only: The Dubai World Cup.
Dullahan (World Cup, Duty Free, Sheema Classic, Godolphin Mile): One of the 2 Dale Romans trainees making the trip, Dullahan has proven to be a monster on synthetic surfaces. Upsetting Game on Dude in the 2012 Pacific Classic shows there is something very unique about this horse. He doesn’t fair well on dirt, and is ok turf, but synthetics bring out his true talent. He will get a prep race in Dubai to acclimate to the arid climate and track surface, and if he brings his A-game to the World Cup, everyone else is running for second. http://www.horseracingnation.com/blogs/furlong/Team_America_Dubai_World_Cup_Carnival_Nominations_123#
Thanks for posting Barbaro’s Derby win. I still get those goose bumps watching that beautiful horse, same as watching Zenyatta and Secretariat, over and over again. Barbaro was so handsome and had such a beautiful, smart eye. I had the good fortunate of finding a plushie after he won the Derby. He sits by bed, along with Zenyatta & Z12, and Secretariat. I am still horse crazy at 62, I guess I will never growup. Hope everyone has a fantastic day.

A BIG thanks (and high hoof), Keta, for your Rightful Image post. I did hear from some others who sent me same, so we are really appreciative! (yes, Karen!) You all are so enterprising. Also thanks to those who commented on Rightful and my letter about Barbaro: Judy Berube, sign, Janet Newman, Barbara Wood (Texas) and Linda in NJ., Trina. Sure hope I did not miss anyone. So many of you did last week, also.
Mary Margaret in GA–that’s great that you have a Barbaro plushie! I have a small one who sits with Secretariat and Zenyatta.
My Prince always the leader! and ever so handsome. How I love him so. I just went back to look at his dad and he sure looks like him too! I always thought his looks were his mama’s all the way. My heart gladdens that he seems so happy!
The Queen always so gracious and lovely no matter where or what she is doing. God Bless the Queen and her Prince always and keep them safe.
LOL to all, Hope the best team wins on Sunday. Happy viewing to the die hard football fans. Did the Queen pick a team yet to win. You know, she is so good at such predictions. God’s Blessings to all, lets all live Love!.
Team z, JUST FOUND THESE BEAUTIFUL AND PRECIOUS PICTURES OF ZENYATTA AND 12Z. Thank you so much!!!
Zenyatta still takes my breath away. Like the old saying, “How do I love thee, let me count the ways”. For Z, there are too many ways. 12z is awesome and is surely enjoying growing up.
love and kisses on Z’s soft nose, some for 12z too!! Auntie Sally
My great grandfather, an admired and respected horseman in his day (he bred, trained, and used Percheron horses in his logging operations in north central Washington State) used to say that when a horse rolled completely over (when rolling on the ground), it was a sign that he/she was a good, sound, intelligent mount and 12Z fits that well! Z appears peaceful, healthy, and contented as a broodmare of her quality and breeding should be. May her upcoming foaling be as smooth and carefree as her first!
Just wanted to say a big “THANK YOU” to Alys for the photos, and for the wonderful care that is and has been given to Zenyatta, Z12, and all of the other horses at Lane’s End. It’s so comforting to know that they are well cared for, especially in this day and
time. Thanks again!
I just found these photos… I loved the peppermint on the rail and Z’s look at that apple as Donna was making the pieces smaller. Z seemed willing to wait which many horses have problems doing. Some floor mats in barns that are pretty run down from the hoof paddle that goes on while they wait… impatiently for you to open the mints or break off pieces of carrots. The whole row is watching as you go down the line. Really is comical.
Baby Z still is full of himself which is a good thing. Makes him competitive when he hits the track.
Thanks so much Alys. you make my day with these photographs.
Back from three weeks of vacation I came on to follow Zenyatta as having her foal was so important to me. I totally missed these great pictures of fun loving 12z and his friend; and then Zenyattas……..makes one breathless. I can not believe I just found these!
love n kisses on Zenyatta’s nose as well as 12z and new 13z!!!
