BHA Suspends Jockey Heffernan 15 Years
By Frank Angst, The Blood-Horse Updated: Friday, January 25, 2013 1:28 PM
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has suspended Andrew Heffernan for 15 years after determining the young jockey was involved in race fixing from Nov. 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011.
The BHA announced penalties for the 24-year-old rider Jan. 25. Heffernan actually received two 15-year suspensions but he will be able to serve them concurrently. Heffernan had most recently competed in Australia before he was suspended there pending the outcome of the BHA investigation.
According to an eight-page BHA report released Jan. 24, Heffernan is the only license holder among nine people found guilty in the case of fixing nine low-level races in which Heffernan’s losing horses were bet to lose on betting exchanges. The charges specifically cited Heffernan’s riding of three horses: Wanchai Whisper, Gallantry and Silver Guest.

Andy Murray beats Roger Federer to advance to Australian Open final
That’s what happened on Friday at the Australian Open, when Andy Murray was finally able to beat Roger Federer in a Grand Slam in a five set match that most won’t soon forget. Murray won 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, with the last set being a bit of a letdown after the comeback that Federer mounted in a fourth set that seemed all but over for the four-time Australian Open champion http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/tennis-busted-racquet/andy-murray-beats-roger-federer-advance-australian
Dear Sign: A clarification. My comment on riders for Darley meant race and training jockeys – as far as I know they certainly don’t ride the stallions and that would apply to all stud farms here.

Wow! And I’m glad to see that “strapper” (groom) is a lady!
“Our decision to change training stables centred around our belief that the continued care of Mufhasa by his lifelong caregiver and companion, strapper Amy Doran, was vital to Mufhasa’s wellbeing, particularly at this late stage in his career, after seven uninterrupted years of the pair being together…”

Dear Keta and Sheena: The greed factor is such a bad thing in racing! We’re still hearing about the estimates for how much is stashed away in Nikolic’s account. Sooner it gets cleaned up (as much as possible) the better. Hugs, KathyR.
