Happy Wednesday!
Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.
Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Edit: We have receieved so many great questions from all of you! Submissions are now closed for the time being. If you didn’t get a chance to ask your question, don’t worry, there will be more opportunities in the future.
Some of you have recently asked about the Zenyatta Shop. Our apologies, the Shop is closed at this time. If you have any outstanding orders or inquiries, please contact us by emailing info@zenyatta.com.

Finalists revealed for 2013 Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards
British Racing Authority 07 Feb 2013 13:08
The finalists of the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards have been announced today, with nominees from around the country making the shortlist for the awards which carry £120,000 in prize money generously donated by the Sponsors.
The judging panel faced an extremely difficult task to narrow down this year’s record-breaking number of outstanding entries, with all of the six judges praising the high calibre of nominees.
The 15 finalists will meet with the judges in London on Sunday 3rd March before the presentation of the awards at a lunch ceremony at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in Knightsbridge the following day, which Clare Balding will be hosting.

She looks terrific! These pictures are beautiful! But I continue to be troubled by the shoes I think I see on her front hooves…
Ann NC
Jennifer, here is a wonderful post by,Zenyen concerning her shoes.
Thank you,Zenyen.
Our horses go w/ the fronts and barefoot behind and it has been very successful for them.
Zenny gets the BEST!!!

Jennifer Gordon
Thanks, Ann. I think I had read that when it was first posted by Zenyen. I know there are lots of possible good reasons for it, but it still makes me nervous. :-)
zenyen
Why, Jennifer?
The shoes, if anything, give Zenyatta more support and traction so she stays safe and on her feet.
If you’re afraid of her stepping on her foal with shoes on, the damage would be done whether she is shod or not.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club; RN philosopher
Dear Jennifer,
They also provide support to her front feet as the weight of her
foal increases so her hooves don’t split or crack as easily.
I do understand, some folks like to keep their horses barefoot all the time.
We had a couple of people at our barn that had their horses barefoot
all the time and really felt that was the best.

Lord the day to day living can be so challenging and easily drain us of the pleasures of life if we are not careful. We thank you for our friends and family
who pull us away from that mindset and add laughter to our lives. Would you
bring genuine laughter to the hearts of those who come to this site as they go
about their daily duties. May they hear laughter at themselves as well as laughter
at those who see themselves as partaking in this joy, verbally and in their
hearts.
Amen.

Thank you so much. This is my first chance to see this photo of Kind and her new adorable colt. Full to Frankel. He’s got a blaze like Shack! Hugs, JB

JudyB. Yes, that blaze is like the Shackster. 13K’s ears are quite similar to 12Z, although 12Z’s ears are probably the best ears ever.

For sure Z’s ears are the best. Although, The Prince is a close second. Hugs, JB

Zenyatta makes my day, every day. Trying to catch up on all the posts. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy my lunch. The Queen is outstanding. And kudos to all the old mamas still producing. Somethingroyal did pretty good back in 1970, as I recall. May everyone stay happy, health, and safe. Hugs & Kisses to you Zenyatta.

Hi Jenny, I just want you to know that since yesterday I just keep looking at your pictures over and over. This is some of the best photagraphy taken of you in a long time, there are a good group of pictures showing many movements and running of you playing in the snow and they all show how you are just loving it. These pictures made me so happy and I am amazed at how beautiful and spirited you are. Sending you more love today and hope you keep your beautiful spirit forever. This is my second comment as I sent you one yesterday also. Best of Luck to you when you have your next foal. Love you much, Irene from Lake Elsinore, Ca.

Wow. I missed all the initial excitement of the posting of these wonderful photos. I think these are some of the best action shots since her first turn out in the snow right after her retirement. It’s so nice to see Z kicking up her heels!

Zenyen thanks for the thoughtful response to Kelli on why Z might be shod in front. Have you heard of broodmare founder? I understand it is a constant worry for broodmare managers. Maybe they are taking super-duper extra precaution….as they should.

Dear Marshall and Z Fans:
Marshall thank you for thinking of me. Got everything I need if we lose power. Wanted to just post tonight to let you all know if I’m “missing in action” after tomorrow it’s because I’ve lost internet service.
Visited Angela, PC and Gigi today. She was busy getting everything in order for the next two days. All the horses will be going in their stalls starting around noon tomorrow and will stay in until after the storm and the walkways to the paddocks have been plowed. Lots or work to do.
Gigi looks just great and she is dancing, prancing and bucking. She’s still by herself in the round pen for now, but she is watching and whinnying to the other horses. She ate every treat that I gave her today very enthusiastically. I think last week she was not being fussy after all; but because of the pain and discomfort she was feeling, was not even interested in treats. She loves the Stud Muffin treats and she even enjoyed the mints today (the same ones she did not want last week). She has a spark in her eyes that was missing before.
Charlie was his same sweet self. But, he is driving Angela crazy because he keeps pulling and tugging at all the other horses blankets. He’s keeping Angela even busier than she already is having to check on the horses and going out to the paddock to correct his handiwork. He’s very mischievous.
PC enjoyed all his treats as usual. Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Judy B.
I am so happy GiGi has the spark back in her eye! YEAH! Another stud muffin fan, heh?
Good for her and nice she has ,you to spoil her.
PC has really turned into a major goofball. He sounds so funny and full of himself. A happy, happy horse.
Good luck to all of you folks in the NE. I hope it will not be too bad. Nice to know ,Angela will have em all tucked in and is ready to face the storm.
I will keep you in my thoughts the next couple of days,JB.
HUGS to all!
Marshall….that will be a “marshmallow time”. Sing it Dean!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ann:
That is exactly what Angela called PC this morning, a goofball. He’s a character.
Yes, Gigi’s a Stud Muffin fan too. She’s one beautiful girl. I think she might be as tall or even taller than Charlie and he stands 16.3.
Thank you for thinking of me and the folks here in N. E. If you don’t see a post from me for a few days, you’ll know we lost power. Hope all the people, horses and animals in the storm’s path get through it safely. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Ann,
Sing it Dean, indeed. Huge “marshmallow world” — wish the Northeast could share a little of the white stuff. I am certain they would like to. Hope everyone, two and four legged, stays safe and warm.
Cheers and hugs.

JudyB. Very happy for you and Gigi. She’s become a new horse. Also hearing about PC is a treat. It is heartwarming to learn about rescued horses getting to enjoy a good life. We’re all proud of you for this.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so happy about Gigi. She has no sign of lameness or discomfort now and PC is more spoiled every day.
I really enjoy all the links you post, as well as those posted by other Z’sters and Dumplings. Really makes my day, especially with these new gorgeous photos of Z. Hugs, JB

Judy,
How cute to hear your stories of your horse PC. What a stinker he can be, but it just lets you know how happy he is and how good he must feel. Good to hear about Gigi too, she must be adjusting well. I’m so happy you have them so close you can run over and see them often, next best thing to having them in your back yard!
Pray you and all the eastcoasters are safe and avoid the worst of this new storm. We’ll be waiting to hear you came thru okay. Hugs

Beautiful girl. Photos 7 & 8 taken from behind–I was thinking that’s the view of Zenyatta all the other horses had at the finish of her races. LOL
