Happy Wednesday!
Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.
Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Edit: We have receieved so many great questions from all of you! Submissions are now closed for the time being. If you didn’t get a chance to ask your question, don’t worry, there will be more opportunities in the future.
Some of you have recently asked about the Zenyatta Shop. Our apologies, the Shop is closed at this time. If you have any outstanding orders or inquiries, please contact us by emailing info@zenyatta.com.

OH! Thanks for the photos, and thanks for grooming her, she looks so beautiful and happy, the same way when she was running, when I see her look like that, my tears start running down, love you forever my adorable Zenny, big hug Ingrid.

She looks wonderful…such a beauty! Motherhood seems to fit her well! Will she be bred again soon after the birth of this new foal, or has she earned a rest?
zenyen
It is easier to keep a mare’s reproductive system in sync and in time if she is bred regularly throughout her breeding career.
Zenyatta is a young, healthy mare and pregnancy for her is NOT the same as pregnancy for a human. Personally I would rather see her have her foals while she is young and then be pensioned when she gets older (16+) which is when I feel you truly begin to risk the mare’s health. (This is a generalization, of course some mares carry their reproductive health up to their later teens)
The wonderful thing about a mare’s body is that if it is not a welcoming environment for a foal, the mare will not catch to a breeding. She can be bred to a stallion but as we saw with Zenyatta’s dam V when she was first bred back to Street Cry in 2011, she just won’t catch or she won’t maintain the pregnancy in its early stages.
My guess is that yes, Zenyatta will be bred again with an eye towards a 2014 foal. Whether or not she catches again is up to Zenyatta and Mother Nature.

Zenyen,
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your comments and replies to people’s questions. Your knowledge shines through and your responses are very understandable. I always learn something when you post. Thank you. Marty R.

Dear Zenyen:
Thank you once again for a very informative post.
I agree with you 16 years old is a good age for pensioning a broodmare, although as you say, some mares older than that have successfully had foals.
V is 18 years old now and it will be wonderful to have a full sibling to Z. Praying for a healthy, safe foaling for her and the baby. Hugs, JB

Dear Zenyen,
So looking forward to Zenny’s family. The hardest things for new people to
horses is that in the wild horses breed every season, the stallion breeds all
mares that come into season in his herd, and they become pregnant or
not as mother nature deems so. This breeding behavior keeps the herd
growing.
Although domesticated horses are not in the wild, their breeding habits and
needs are the same. Very different from humans.

The queen looks like she loves the snow. A nice brisk romp with her friends. Love the high tailed shots. Can’t wait for the new one to make his/her arrival

Dear Alys and Lane’s End team: What a fantastic start to my Thursday – could look at these photos all day. Many thanks and hugs. KathyR.

Wow, I can not believe how agile she is even carrying a foal! I have a hard enough job carrying an extra 10 pounds. :>) Alys’ photos are gorgeous. They remind me of the pictures from her first time in the snow when she was retired from racing. I remember the shot of her tail up and she was prancing showing who she is. Just like the ones Alys photographed. She just looks fabulous. Thank you so much Alys and Lanes End for letting us into Zenyatta’s world once again. I, for one, can never see enough phtos of her. I hope her foaling goes well and soon her second colt or filly will be running by her side proud as punch because their mom is Zenyatta.
Thanks again for thinking of us.

Oh how I pray that someday I will have a mare just like Zenyatta. She is the epitomy of all that is spectacular and I have never seen a TB so spectacular as her. I loved this mare from the first time I laid eyes on her. She is fabulous!! My day will come, I just know it will!!! Love you Zenyatta!!

I swear if I worked at Lane’s End, they would fire me, because I’d never get anything done. I’d just spend all day in her stall kissing her soft nose and rubbing my hands through that velvety coat. So jealous of all the people who work there!

V is one very good looking mare. It is easy to see the influence of V in Zenyatta. Z also looks like Roberto. What a great family.

Thank you Lane’s End and all for this incredible photos of Big Mama Zenyatta. She looks absolutely breathtaking romping around with her friend in their paddock. What a wonderful treat for all of us out here in Zennyland. I believe she has never looked better and to see her at the racetrack was amazing, but I think these shots of her clearly having fun with her friend say it all.
We are all so appreciative of how you keep us in touch with her.
Helen
Magnificent Horse Goddess! Z just keeps getting more beautiful. Thanks for sharing her with us!
