Happy Wednesday!
Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.
Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Edit: We have receieved so many great questions from all of you! Submissions are now closed for the time being. If you didn’t get a chance to ask your question, don’t worry, there will be more opportunities in the future.
Some of you have recently asked about the Zenyatta Shop. Our apologies, the Shop is closed at this time. If you have any outstanding orders or inquiries, please contact us by emailing info@zenyatta.com.

Thank you, thank you for the great pictures of our beautiful Zenyatta having fun in the snow… reminds me of when she first arrived at Lane’s End in 2010 and that wonderful video of her in the snowy paddock. She looks so pretty with her coat gleaming and her tail flagged. All I want for her is to be a happy horse and she looks it!

Awwww our BEAUTIFUL Zenyatta, I’ve missed seeing your pic’s! You look so happy and pregnant kicking up your heels in that Kentucky snow. Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures…….keep them coming!
Kelli
Pretty pretty girl!!! she looks great!!! Just a question – more of a curiosity…. Why is she shod in front? She’s a broodmare and just hanging in a cushy stall or out to pasture…
zenyen
Kelli,
It could be any number of reasons. We know she was unshod for awhile when her racing plates were first pulled but at some point during the summer there were pictures of her racing and bucking with Z12 and shoes on the front.
It could be just some extra support (remember as a broodmare she does carry extra weight).
It could be that she strikes the ground hard and was coming up with foot bruises in front.
It could be that she likes to tear around the paddock and they wanted to ensure a bit of extra ‘traction’ up front.
It could be her front hooves were picking up cracks, growing out in odd ways, splaying in an undesirable manner, something that front shoes would correct.
It could be that she just simply moves more comfortable with shoes on the front.
If it is one thing we have seen from Lane’s End time and time again it is the fact that they take the hoof management of their horses, young to old, VERY seriously. I feel confident that Zenyatta has shoes for a reason that makes Zenyatta comfortable.

Dear Zenyen:
Thank you. Hugs, JB

She looks absolutely gorgeous…. Even with foal she has such an engaging spirt and looks wonderful. Thanks so much for posting the pics. I never get tired of seeing them. I still like watching that video from last year when they first let her run in her snowy paddock, nickering and flicking her tail. Has anyone noticed she has an ‘Arabian’ tail when she runs? Miss her on the track but I’m having a great time following her half-sis and of course will be keeping track of her ‘kids,’ too. Thanks again.

WOW… what a treat to come to the site today and find all these absolutely gorgeous pictures! When I saw the title of the post, I was reminded of all the snow days we used to have in Virginia and I always enjoyed them as much as Zenny seems to be. It was like “Yippeee… no school today!!!” She must be feeling really good to be cavorting around like that which makes me very happy. Her winter coat looks so soft and inviting that I want to just bury my face in her neck (LOVE the smell of horses and I so miss doing that with my own horse so many years ago). I pray for safe deliveries for all the moms and new babies this season… Lane’s End is going to be a really busy place the next few months!
Thank you Team Z, Lane’s End, the Mosses, and of course Alys with her trusty camera. These pictures are like tonic for the soul.
Now I’ll go off to try to think of a good question to submit this time.

Thank you Alys and all of Lane’s End for the pictures and keeping us posted about her. I know all of you have fallen as deeply in love with her as much as all her adoring fans who would love to be able to be with her day in and day out like ya’ll are. You are very very lucky.
Please keep her safe and warm in this cold snowy weather.
Isn’t she the most beautiful girl in the world?
Love hugs and kisses to all

It’s so hard to imagine how you can move around that well when you are so . . . . well . . . . you know . . . . substantial! The setting is gorgeous, and YOU are gorgeous, and we are all so happy to see you. Please say thanks to Alys and everyone at Team Z and Lane’s End for sharing these great pictures.
