Happy Wednesday!

Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.

Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Greetings from very wet Hot Springs….and sloppy ….Oaklawn ….
    Calvin had 3 mounts today but did not get number 5000….the crowd roared so loud the building shook when he was ahead in his second try…but it was not to be
    ……
    got pictures of Brown Almighty being saddled for the Southwest….he did NOT like the sloppy track….while taking the pictures got to talking with a lady standing beside me …turns out she is his owner ….very nice…says he is a sweetheart..

      Watching the race on TVG, it looked like they were racing in a creek instead of a track. Poor Brown Almighty was 19 lengths behind.

        Thanks Karen. This gives a little more insight into John Shirreff’s thoughts on training all horses, not just Eblouissante, but also what having her means to everyone in the barn. She is a gift, for sure.

        Karen, thanks for the link, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video and watched it over and over. Ebby is so pretty, I love the fact that she doesn’t have any white markings just like her daddy, but with her mama’s face and ears. I think they get their smarts from their mama. Am guess she also has the X factor gene which means she has a big heart. Good for her. Since the Queen left, my heart has not been into racing but with her little sister showing promise, its on now.
        What enviable pedigree. John ,always so humble and always the gentle man. He deserves to have a piece of the Queen there. Just look at him, so happy! and looking 10 years younger, not that I know his age. I felt so touched when he said it was a gift having the Queen’s sister there at his Barn, just like having a piece of Zenyatta there.Shows you how much he misses her.! It is well. Good night.

      As for Rachel Alexandra herself, she has become best friends with her paddock mate, Hot Dixie Chick, and they pass the days in quiet contentment. Both had colts by Curlin this year. Rachel Alexandra is now in foal to Bernardini, while Hot Dixie Chick is in foal to Street Cry.

      Is there anything more beautiful than these mares with their babies!!! Brings to mind a book I read some may be interested in called “Blessed Are The Broodmares” by Phyllis Lowe, just wonderful.

      Thank you for your best wishes for my tests tomorrow, it’s nice to know so many caring people.

      Congrats to Misdirection and Super Ninety Nine (dear Pulpits son) his daddy would be so proud.

      PUR our dear girl, latest news is certainly hopeful. That picture of her with her Bernie baby is heartbreaking when you know they will never be together again.

      Hi SunnyB, you must not be in Chicago because we only got a dusting. Looks like your excited about the snow as I am. I always tell people it reminds me of mana falling from Heaven and that really gladdens my heart. Enjoy ,but keep warm and drink lots of tea with honey!.

      I am envious!! We haven’t had a real snow in 2-3 years!! Just a couple of dustings and/or flurries. We get short-changed on winter, but never get a break with the seemingly endless heat and humidity in summer — the oppressive summer goes on and on, AND the grass grows overnight! ICK!!!!
      Enjoy the snow! Alas, NC used to get several snows each winter until the ’90’s.

    Dear Trina: Regarding your comment on the previous page about the horse slaughter and the claim of “humane” I’m with you: my disgust at that bloke was the casual way he talked about them “being treated like kings”. I’ve just got so much contempt for people who think like that. Sorry to sound so nasty, but it gets my blood boiling. Will go back and look at the pics of Zenyatta in the snow and get these awful thoughts out of my head. Hugs, KathyR.

      I share your feelings entirely. These horses give their all over and over again and some of these owners/trainers just don’t get it. They don’t have the love for them that they need and deserve.

      Unfortunately slaughter of our beloved horses is happening every day. Maybe with enough awareness, people will become appalled and the market demand will cease to exist. All we can do is save one at a time every chance we get. Love and Hugs, JB

      Thanks for the link, mother and daughter look very classy, I agree with you totally. I’m wondering what the filly will turn out to be. A racer?, a broodmare? or a pretty princess.
      I never really think of the little one’s in that way but I guess something in the way she held her head made me thinking such thoughts. Good luck to mother and child and their connections.

    To all the Zsters! Yippee; I am sure Sue F. will be posting, but I am so relieved to here good news about her test. GOOD NEWS. I was watching the time on the clock knowing she was then going in for the procedure and all I felt was such anxiety so I took a walk in our cold Wi weather. Gee Whiz!! When I spoke with my BFF afterwards she sounded like she had a good time with all the nurses and I was the one left wondering. ha ha I am so happy for my friend.

    RA…..have little rest, Zenny smile: once i was hug neck of white maljvina, when she was eating hay, she had move her head behind me and was lightly eating my back legs, like i was her foal, how do you like this horse way of love beautyfull Zenny, kiss you, love you

    …..fire water…..Rach in photo before surgery said it is my filly…..mares guard fillyes…..sometimes by her mare life…..it is no fun…..horse nature…..Zenny be comfort…..smiled Zenny
