Happy Wednesday!
Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.
Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Edit: We have receieved so many great questions from all of you! Submissions are now closed for the time being. If you didn’t get a chance to ask your question, don’t worry, there will be more opportunities in the future.
Some of you have recently asked about the Zenyatta Shop. Our apologies, the Shop is closed at this time. If you have any outstanding orders or inquiries, please contact us by emailing info@zenyatta.com.

dear max am catching up with posts and reading all the wonderful tributes to kari am in tears most of the time her love for Z shines through the special videos was really shocked when I found about the disposal of dead horses always thought they would treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve will be watching the jumps season in a totally different way now have been arrests in holland today do you still eat poultry and fish?I very rarely eat meat myself will eat less now
I sent frankel a birthday card on the 11th had a lovely letter of thanks from juddmonte and a pic of the great one neigh sheena
Max
Sheena. It is very nice that Juddmonte responded so quickly to your birthday card to Frankel. He is a very polite horse. Enjoy that photo.
I am getting more upset by these continuing revelations about horse slaughter. It is very sad especially in Britain where eating horses was always such a taboo, considered to be like cannibalism. This must be an awful situation for horse lovers like you. It’s unbelievable.
I stay away from eating poultry and fish too. However chocolate is not safe near me.

dear vicki B am shocked at the situation in this country NO HORSE should be regarded as food have heard that new forest ponies are selling for £5 where are those poor souls ending uphugs sheena
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Sheena–you are so right! No horse anywhere.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Thanks, Sheena. I had not heard or read before, about the New Forest Ponies. They have had tough times, financially, but seems like the reduction in numbers in New Forest should eventually balance it out. I did find a good article on the round-ups known as ‘drifts’.

Kathy R.
Dear Sheena, Max and Vicki B. Regarding the slaughter of horses for human consumption. I was horrified and disgusted to read in my Sydney Morning Herald today (and I quote) that “Australia has exported horse meat for human consumption since the 1970s. Today, we’re one of the world’s biggest exporters, with two accredited abattoirs – one in South Australia’s Peterborough and the other in Caboolture, Queensland. … The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry also estimates between 30,000 and 40,000 horses are slaughtered each year, but this includes about 33 licensed knackeries butchering horses for the domestic pet-food market, including thoroughbreds, standardbreds and wild brumbies.” The articles went on to quote a butcher in Perth who sells the meat that he obtains from unwanted pets “The horses I use get to be treated like kings for an extra six to 12 months before they are humanely put down”, he says, pointing out that they also aren’t pumped full of antibiotics or other drugs.
Well, doesn’t that just make you feel so much better about the whole revolting business. Some people just leave me speechless.
Trina Nagele in So Cal--PUR
Dear Kathy, I am skeptical that the killing is done, as they claim, “in a humane way.” All the slaughter practices for horses that I have heard of to date have nothing in common with the euthanasia methods used by veterinarians and are the very opposite of humane, sad to say.

Hi everyone, Happy President’s day!, always nice to have an extra day of rest. In some countries, Mondays are holidays. Oh well, we are grateful for the 4 day weekend.
Any news on Rachel A?, I trust she is all better now. Praise the Lord. Blessings to her, her little princess and all her connections.
To Big Brown and Brown A, but first to Big Brown, he is one of my fav horses and really upset that because he did not win the triple crown people treat him like he is not a great champion. 2 of 3 is mighty impressive to me and I love him inspite of. Thanks Keta for the post about Brown A! and reminding us that he is of the great Champ Big Brown!. Who is the mama?
Now to Brown A, wishing him a safe trip first and a successful one too. GOOOO, Brown A of BB. Bring it home. Most importantly though, be safe.
To my Queen Zenny, good morning, hope you have a great day, maybe Prince will take time out of his busy schedule to come by and say hi!.
Blessings to all and to all the Queens connections and care takers.

Happy President’s Day to all my American Dumplings! Kisses to you my sweet Zenny and to you, big boy Z.

KathyR. A truly beautiful story. Royal Glow is a lovely horse.

Thank you, Kathy R. for this inspiring story. This on top of the “cautiously optimistic” update about Rachel Alexandra has turned this into a good feeling day. And, I think you’re absolutely right, Kari would indeed approve of this horse owner and his efforts to make life as good as he could for his mare and she rewarded him with some super offspring. Isn’t she a beauty, as well?

Black Caviar to miss Newmarket Handicap
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 19/2/2013 at 8:30am
Champion mare Black Caviar will have her next run in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley next month and will definitely miss the Newmarket Handicap.
Trainer Peter Moody said the decision to skip the race in which the mare achieved her highest-ever rating when she won it in 2011 had been made with her welfare in mind, as much as the peace of mind of all connections.
“There’ll be no ‘will-she-won’t -she’. She’s not an acceptor,” Moody said.

@Dawn Conrad – Thank you for sharing Ashton’s comments about your card with us. I always hesitate to post because I’m not very eloquent, but you always manage to say a lot of the things that I’m feeling. Your post was just beautiful.

It was an absolute joy reading the touching tributes of Kari from you. Kari was a remarkable strong person with such love for Zenyatta. I only wish I could have met her that day, Zenyatta’s party in Kentucky.
Kari is in a good place for sure. Other comments of mine left on previous page no. It does not matter, we all share the same feelings.
Dawn Conrad; What a special response from Ashton, a true keepsake.
Bless you all, Sally B

Thanks Abigail for the up date on Rachel A. The information on the link you posted was very informative. Life is always full of twists and turns and that’s why we have to always pray that God will deliver us from all evil.
