Happy Wednesday!
Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.
Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Edit: We have receieved so many great questions from all of you! Submissions are now closed for the time being. If you didn’t get a chance to ask your question, don’t worry, there will be more opportunities in the future.
Some of you have recently asked about the Zenyatta Shop. Our apologies, the Shop is closed at this time. If you have any outstanding orders or inquiries, please contact us by emailing info@zenyatta.com.

It is amazing how a horse’s well-being can raise us to the hetights and bring us to despair at any given moment. We are all united in praying for our dear Rachel’s recovery and breathlessly awaiting the next report. We couldn’t possibly care more if she were our very own. Dear Lord, please spare her and return her to health. Power up, Rachel! Love to you all.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Lord, if it is your well, please restore Rachel to good health and bring her home. Amen!

Barbara,
We love our horses so very much. I was just out running errands and was thinking the exact same thing.
We must always be ready, when having these equines in our lives,to accept the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
We must always stand by them through thick and thin.
Glad the, lil spunky RA filly has made a smooth transition,Bless the lovely nurse mare. Keep growing,Lil Spunk, make your Momma proud.
Now,Power Up RA. Use that strong will you had on the track to pull out of this!
Hugs to all. Everyone here is so very special.prayers to RA,Barbara Banke and all involved. Stay strong

You are so right. We learned that last fall when our Money was so very sick with cellulitis. It came on so suddenly and became life-ifethreatening. For such big animals, they are fragile and can come down with things very unexpectedly. So the lesson is–pray without ceasing.

Barbara,
You’ve so very well said what we feel. Thank you for your kindness and wisdom. It takes tenacity but especially our faith in God to keep us going and give us strength. I’m so very grateful to this website, for Zenny’s inspiration and beauty, for all of our family here on this ‘home’ page. Praying for everyone here and at Lane’s End and at Stonestreet tonight. An especial prayer for Barabara Banke and her Rachel Alexandra.
Love and blessings to everyone,

PS Sweet dreams, Zenny, for your lovely new upcoming foal.

What does that mean, ‘up for another mint at lunch’?.Am taking it to be good news!. Our God he is a mighty healer and never disappoints for we have asked in his son’s name!.
I am not afraid, it is well with Rachel A. Our God lives and not deaf to our pleadings so let us offer up songs of praise to his mighty name for we are all his children and stand firm on his words. LOL to all.

Thanks for keeping up with the latest news about our sweet angel Rachel, you are the “Queen” of twitter. This pic is so gorgeous, you can see the fight in her eyes, and the emotional toll on Ms. Banke’s face. I know her love and devotion to Rachel will be felt by Rachel and I hope this will give her the strength she needs to persevere through this very difficult healing process.
May all those beautiful equines that have passed before her gather round and protect her from crossing over the Rainbow Bridge and entering their very loving circle of friends.

Have been away from access to anything other than email for about 24 hours so lots to catch up with here. Many thanks to Keta, Max, Zenyan, and all others who have provided informative links and such thoughtful insights about Rachel Alexandra’s situation. As far as I can tell from what I’m reading here and elsewhere, things seems stable and that is very good news indeed. I certainly join everyone in prayers for her continued improvement and thanks for the bonding between the nurse mare and Rachel’s filly.
Power Up Rachel indeed!!

Dear Sandy:
Glad you’re back on line. Thank you for your kind words on HT. We’re all relieved she’s safely on the farm.
That’s neat that a town with her name is close by. Her sire was Delaware Township. He was one of 14 horses in the BC Sprint in 2000 and he won the Grade 1 Forego Handicap at Saratoga in 2001.
Visited with Angela, PC, GG and HT again this morning. HT and GG are in a paddock together. They were racing in the snow; tails high and flying like flags. They have become good friends. Hugs, JB

Hi Sandy and JudyB.
Good to know you are OK,Sandy.
JB, that is wonderful news about HT. It must have been a beautiful sight w/ GG and HT running in the snow. Good news!!!! GG was telling, HT…you are in a special place now and they will give you lots of LOVE!!!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ann and Vicki B.:
Yes, some good new at this time of worry and concern for RA.
HT is able to run free from morning after breakfast to late afternoon when Angela takes all of the horses inside. She had two hours of freedom each day where she was before and the rest of the day and night was spent in her stall. She’s loving the life she has now.
GG was lame and not able to run at all. She was kept outside in a paddock with a little donkey all the time. Since Angela discovered that a hot nail in her shoe was causing the lameness, she is now totally sound and loving life as well. Plus, GG and HT now have each other for company and to race with. It’s so good to see them happy and just being horses. Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Would love to see those horses running in the snow! I had the great pleasure of attending a John Denver tribute concert last night which included lots of videos – both from his live concerts and from his life in Colorado (contributed by his children). During one song, Ponies (which I never heard before), they showed him riding out with an entire herd of horses in the snow. It was absolutely beautiful. I don’t know were the horses came from, and I’ve never seen that many together in one place, but they sure were enjoying the beautiful surroundings. He was such a champion of nature and wildlife – great to be reminded of his efforts in those areas as well as his wonderful music.

While selecting my single favorite race of Rachel Alexandra cannot be done, I can tell you with certainty that there was no race that I loved any more than the 2009 Haskell. In that I viewed many of her races live and in living color, the Haskell, a race I was unable to attend, might seem like a strange choice. Let me try to explain.

As always thanks for this beautiful heartfelt story from Brian, you can feel how very much he loves our Rachel. I rewatched the race and it gave me chills to see her come barreling down the stretch with Calvin aboard. I know how Brian feels, I saw her race in person in Saratoga in Sept 2009, and to see her strength and power in person takes your breath away. I was never lucky enough to see our beloved Queen Z race in person, but I did have the privilege of seeing my Rachel (as I have always called her) and it was both an honor and amazing.
With the up most appreciation for sharing this heart warming story from another lover of Rachel’s.

World champion Frankel passes first official test
By Katherine Fidler Racing Post Bloodstock 8:08PM 15 FEB 2013
UNDEFEATED world champion Frankel passed another milestone on Friday when successfully covering six-time Group/Grade 1 winner Midday at Banstead Manor Stud.
Frankel, who retired the winner of 14 races, has a book of around 135 mares lined up for the breeding season including 60 Group 1 winners or producers. Arc heroine Danedream, top-class mare Dar Re Mi and Midsummer, the dam of Midday, will all visit the son of champion sire Galileo in the coming months.

Unfortunately Rachel will not be reunited with her filly, the nature of Rachel’s recovery and the separation period is going to be too long.

Update on Rachel Alexandra’s Condition Following Surgery
February 15, 2013: Lexington, KY
Rachel Alexandra’s condition remained serious at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital on Friday following surgery to repair a section of her small colon. The attending veterinarians on her case, Dr. Bonnie Barr and Dr. Brett Woodie, are pleased with her progress, with Dr. Barr calling her a “strong mare”. Her vital signs remain normal and she was brighter, more alert and demonstrating an improved attitude on Friday afternoon.
“She looks better today,” said owner Barbara Banke. “ Rachel is a determined fighter. It makes me feel better that she was happy to have a mint. I want to thank all her fans for their incredible devotion to Rachel. Your thoughts mean so much right now.”
Rachel’s foal continues to do well. She has adjusted well to her nurse mare and enjoyed paddock turnout on Friday at Stonestreet.

One day at a time Rachel, keep powering up. Your little girl

So well spoken Janet Newman, very touching what you said about the white heart shaped symbol on Rachel A’s daughter’s forehead.!
