Happy Wednesday!

Alys took these great photos of Zenyatta playing in her paddock. We think she looks especially beautiful set against the snowy Lane’s End landscape.

Team Z and the staff at Lane’s End are getting ready for the arrival of this year’s foals. Accordingly, we’d like to invite the next round of questions for our “Ask The Experts” column. Questions related to the foaling process will be considered first, but all questions are welcome.

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Dear all: Just learned that Rachel A has had surgery at Rood & Riddle again. Her colon was bruised in the birth. Please pray for her, as they say her condition is serious. Does someone know how to set up a candle group? Hugs.

    So worried after reading the news release about Rachel. It has been helpful to read all your comments and thoughts, as you know more about horses than I do, and a lot more about mares and foaling.. I am praying and lighting candles at the 3 group sites on gracefulness.org. (Rache, RachA, RachL).

    dear max just come on the blog and seen the terrible news about rachel i was scared something like this would happen after such a big foal and the trouble she had last time will light candles for her going to be a worrying time will be a nervous wreck when Z gives birth praying hard for her to pull through

      Sheena. Still in shock over Rachel. Terrible news. Praying for a recovery like our Paynter. Power up Rachel.
      As for Frankel, I hope that all goes well for him. He’s definitely in demand.
      Sounds like things are not working out too well for Tidal Bay, or Idle Bay as he is called by Denman. In some ways, I’m glad that he’s out of the Grand National. That is a very tough race, and my favorite part is when it’s over.

    Rachel Alexandra in Recovery Following Surgery
    Feb. 13, 2013: Lexington, KY
    Stonestreet Farm shared earlier tonight via social media that Rachel Alexandra, 2009 Horse of the Year, was taken to Rood and Riddle Equine Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky late Wednesday when complications developed related to the birth of her Bernardini filly.
    Rachel Alexandra underwent surgery to repair an area of bruising in her small colon, which was injured during foaling. Dr. Brett Woodie performed the surgery and Rachel is currently in recovery under the watch of Dr. Bonnie Barr. A full prognosis cannot be determined at this time, but her condition is serious.

      It’s great to have good news like this on such a sad news morning. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rachel, all her connections, veterinarians caring for her and for her wonderful filly.

      Rachel seemed to be bonding beautifully with her foal, different from last year, and I think that just adds to the sadness of the situation.

      Most important will be Rachel’s return to good health. She never has to be a mom again if it isn’t in her best interest. Healthy, happy mare is all she needs to be. Off to light more candles.

    It was a major shock to hear about Rachel Alexandra this morning – I know some of you have been “on this” since late last night. Thanks to those who set up candle sites (great minds). Prayers for her recovery – I know that she wants to get back to her little valentine filly.

    Rachel Alexandra standing, but still ‘serious’ after surgery for foaling injury
    Published: February 14, 2013 Updated 12 minutes ago
    Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, was able to stand but remained in serious condition Thursday morning after a damaged part of her small colon was successfully removed in surgery late Wednesday.
    “Her condition remains serious; it’s going to be a long road,” said Amy Kearns, a spokeswoman for Stonestreet Farm, located on Old Frankfort Pike.
    Rachel Alexandra was taken to Rood and Riddle Equine Clinic in Lexington when complications developed from the birth of her Bernardini filly, according to the farm’s statement released Wednesday night.
    Rachel Alexandra woke up from anesthesia about 3 a.m. Thursday, Kearns said.

    Sending all my prayers and positive thoughts to beautiful Rachael for a complete recovery. How sad that the baby has to go on a nurse mare and can’t be with mom, this just can’t be happening again.

    My God, just read the news about Rachel, praying for a quick recovery!!. Our God is an Awesome God and he will not tarry in healing her. Praying for her owners too and all those care and love her. Thank you for posting the news about Rachel, I will choose not to be sad but trust in the healing power of our GOD.     Such heartbreaking news about Rachel and her filly.

    Positive thoughts for Rachel and for a complete recovery and for her team who I know will do everything for her. Also warm thoughts for the loving nurse mare who will now raise Rachel’s filly.

    This is especially heartbreaking because you could see, in the pictures, how much Rachel loved and wanted to raise her baby.

      The news of Rachel is extremely upsetting.

      You are right,Zenyen,the photo of,Rachel with her neck arched over her precious filly, is one of the most beautiful sights mother nature can give us. That pose was so beautiful and yes,Rachel was showing us how much she loves her gorgeous filly.
