Crisp fall air always means change for mares and foals at Lane’s End. Zenyatta’s Medaglia d’Oro filly has recently been weaned. As 17Z and her herd playfully enter a new stage in life, Zenyatta enjoys some quiet time with her fellow mares.

Ann visited the farm in late September to spend some time with Zenyatta and her filly. We’re happy to share these photos from her trip. Scroll all the way to the bottom for videos too! Next week we’ll post a recent photo update from Alys.

    The weaning went well, and the baby looks settled in with her group. You all had to be on pins and needles wanting everything to go just right. Thank you for sharing the story of this wonderful, magical mare and her little girl.

    Zenny your baby girl is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!! I almost cry watching Ann with baby 17z….Still am calling her Zannie…after both moms…THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making my day!!!!!!

    What a thrill to come to the blog and find these wonderful photos and videos of Zenny and her little girl. Z17 is not so little if the 51 they said on the video was inches of height. She is a beautiful little girl who seems to know and really love Ann. Plus she has mom’s Roberto ears. Thanks so much for this gift on a lovely fall day.

    I can’t believe how fast those young horses grow. I did see what some others of you mentioned about the club foot, she seems a bit ‘tender’ for lack of a proper word on it. However, she is running an kicking, bucking, etc. so what the farriers can do nowdays is truly amazing w/special shoes, etc. Our then 2 year old fily had part of her hoof taken off somehow in those darned paddock accidents, and we had the farrier out at first twice a week, then once a week, and on, until the hoof, made of a keratin material, grew back nicely. She went on to win races, so I really think this gorgeous filly will be fine. I am most excited about her. A M’Doro FILLY. I think the two boys on the track now are really not going to do much, but the filly I have high hopes for! And please, please, give that poor Zenny a year off of pregnancy after this foal! She is just so huge! I tried to save a veterinarian college’s article on breeding mares when they are too heavy but it did not save. It is her health that is most important, not another future foal. She’s had most of her time being pregnant. Give her a good year or two off, have someone put a nice riding saddle on her and take her around the farm for daily exercise. I think she would love it. She is a people horse, by looking at the photos, and I think she would really love being ridden around the place and “being nosey” LOL Just don’t want anything happening to the gal.

    OMG, she is gorgeous! Going to be fun watching this one grow into her mother’s horseshoes.

    Zenyatta looks pregnant again. Did I miss the news of her re-breeding? Who is the lucky father to be, or is it my imagination that she looks pregnant?
