Happy Wednesday!
As you may know, we were in Kentucky last week visiting Zenyatta, 14Z, and Ziconic. We posted photos from Lane’s End on Instagram and Facebook throughout the week, and we were happy to see so many of you following!
It still felt like summer in Kentucky, and we arrived to a beautiful full moon. We brought lots of pears, carrots, and mints with us and spent time with the horses every morning and afternoon.
This trip was extra special because Jeanne, April, and Jackie from Mayberry Farm were in town for the yearling sale. They were thrilled to spend time with us at Lane’s End and to meet Ziconic and Z Princess for the first time. It won’t be long before Ziconic goes to their the farm in Ocala for training.
Scroll down to see more photos from our visit. One of our favorites is available in the shop today!
Today’s post is dedicated to Street Cry, who will live on through Zenyatta, her children, and champions around the world.
Enjoy!

There was a SNAKE on the track yesterday! All lead ponies were wary of his handling.
SNAKE PIT finished 3rd in an allowance at Laurel.
Thanks Max and JB for the great stuff on, Wise Dan. Donnie is dreamy and Charlie better look out. Love those buckskins! Great seeing the disciplines coming together.

Dear Max.The racing industry is outraged at photos published in the Daily Mirror of Wigmore Hall being shot last week.I ‘ve just seen the pics (very rarely read the Mirror).they are just so heartbreaking.Animal Aid provided them,Michael Bell took a while to recognise him(does’nt he know his horses??)I cannot blame the Mirror for posting the photos really it’s time peeps realised what happens to horses when they have to be euthanized on the racecourse.Feel so sad WH had no dignity in death.Hugs Sheena.
Janet Newman
Sheena,
That is such a horrible thing to publish. he was shot? They don’t euthanize by injection? I remember seeing photos when Go For Wand was euthanized and they were giving her an injection. This is horrific indeed.
I am beginning to think that I may need to give up on watching horse racing again.
Our Zenyatta drew me back, but now I just don’t know.
Barbara Wood
Janet, I understand totally. Part of my reason for not attending the BC.
Max
Sheena. I looked at the photos. It is sad that Wiggy ended his days like that. Wiggy himself was dignified to the last, and so regal looking. Wiggy was however euthanized by an accepted method which is used so that the horse does not have to suffer. I’m just terribly sorry that it had to come to this for any horse.
What is this story of AP getting attacked? Strange things are happening in the UK.
Devo Max for The Moose. Beast, counting. Dan, do what you have to do to stay interesting. Snake, you snuck a race by me? Have to be more on top of things in the future.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena, Janet, Max and Z Fans:
Oh my God, I thought they used medication and an injection on the track. Thought shooting horses was a thing of the past. That’s barbaric. Can’t believe it. Janet, I have the same thoughts as you regarding the Industry now. Love and Hugs, JB

September 20 Cherokee Devotional
Touching the earth is resting on the breast of our mother. It is once again finding our beginnings-a knowing that this place where we stand or walk or plow or plant, is something created for us. We know it because the pulse of the earth slows our own and tranquilizes our confusion. Seeing the sky in all its limitless depths stirs our imaginations and stretches our awareness of the simple beauty provided for us. We can see that it is wrong to be bitter and know that it lasts only as long as we let it. When we reach toward the ceiling of our minds, we are as unlimited as the sky. As currents of air stir the fragrance of the flowers, we may not be able to see where it comes from but we sense its influence. Life is ours to enjoy as individuals and it comes from the Great Holy Spirit.
We sang songs that carried in their melodies all the sounds of nature…

Dear Kathy.Such a beautiful devotional today.Needed that.Poor Fubu had a long day at the vet but had lots of trips to the shops after.I didn’t know he is on metacam and that can cause renal failure(memories of Joey) so he had to have blood taken. This vet is far more expensive but,of course,Kimberly will do anything to keep him alive!
Oh,gosh the tears flowed with those pics of Joey I still cannot believe he has left us somehow, nearly 460,000 friends now!
Marty is still on his big abventure, hope he avoided Glasgow last night trouble in George’s square! He’s a wise rat though, has made sure he’s got plenty of yogies!!Mango’s mum is enjoying her holidays, met Harry and his mum they had travelled all the way from Las Vegas by bike! Some tough women in the US!!What do they feed you??.She posted a pic of a Cherokee Indian reservation,it seems only a few stayed behind after the white man banished the rest and they moved to Oklahoma.Have heard about the wildfires in California hope you are far away from them. They say it’s an historic drought. You badly need rain!!!I think it rained in NM yesterday again Mango is hoping she can ride on Momma’s bike like Harry!Have a great Saturday.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly, Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Poor Fubu. It’s distressing that he has to see the doctor so often. I’m glad he gets to shop afterwards since he enjoys that so much. I know what you mean about still feeling the loss of Joey so intensely. I too cannot believe he’s gone. We should be able to wake up and realize it was just a nightmare. Sheena, are you going to buy a Marty 2015 calendar? I think I might. Sure would be a day brightener! I’m not sure what the tough US women are eating, Sheena. I’m not one of them! lol The Native Americans were dealt with so unfairly by our government. Extremely shameful. The wildfires are far away from where I live. Steve leaves for Nevada City tomorrow for a week. He will undoubtedly see a lot of smoke on his route. We are very, very dry. We need the rains so badly. California Chrome runs in less than an hour. GO CHROMIE! Have a great day, enjoy the weekend! Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

As Ann NC posted, Snake Pit got a third at Laurel yesterday and took home $5.5K to pay for his groceries. The Beast’s older bro, Koh I Noor, was fourth.

Independence for the Moose. He needs his own Parliament. Beast, eyes on you. Dan, you’re a celebrity. Snake, proud of you.

Dear Max:
Thanks for posting the replay. Snake ran a good third. Koh I Noor doesn’t look as “tiny” as his brother.
Power Up CC, Dan, PM, Beholder, Big Trouble, Treve, STM. Lea, Sir, Reilly, Angel, General and all who are ill or injured. Beast (get well) and Dan, listen to Max. Snake, good effort. TT, love you forever. Street Cry, gone too soon. Loose The Moose! Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. Koh is not as tiny as the Beast. Here’s a photo of the Beast with his pony. This really shows how tiny that Beast is.

Dear Max.Yes,Wiggy was most dignified in his last moments.Makes me wonder if he were a valuable stallion, they would have moved Heaven and earth to save him.Geldings are disposable as shorty might say.I remember Red Rum was euthanized this way.Ginger was always afraid he would fight a drug and wanted it over quickly.
AP was attacked by a punter at Worcester last night but as I’m sure you know ap can give as good as he gets.A beer can was thrown at him,he’d had 4 winners but lost on a favourite Saint Helena. That horse’s win at Southwell recently is being investigated by the beak!Free the Moose.PUHovis and all sick animals.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I sure hope that that the diagnosis of Wiggy was the correct one and in his best interest. We both do not agree with the shorty view of horses. Laughed at your story of Celestial Halo and shorty the other day, as long as CH was okay.
Did not know that about AP. Just noticed that he seldom smiles and can look rather serious. Now I know.
Hopefully Moose is getting help from Glesni to assert his rights to freedom. She can run his new Air Force after independence. Beast, an afternoon snooze might help the healing. Dan and Snake, same recipe for your training.
Peggy (N) South Georgia

Only 2 weeks now. The Arc. Wow…………………………
Max
Peggy. The Japanese raiders including Gold Ship are scheduled to arrive today. Apparently they decided against running in any prep races. Have to wait and see who else turns up on the roster. Sea The Moon is definitely out.
Moose, have to decide where your capital after independence will be. Your barn in Cheltenham might be a start? Beast, Dan and Snake, be good guys for your grooms. Keep the bites to a minimum.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max,
Oh my Gosh, you made my day. Thank you so much for letting me know the Japanese runners are suppose to get there “today”
I’ll be listening out for them. So looking forward to seeing the final list of who all’s running. Love that race.
Max
Peggy. Very strange that you should mention this on their same day as their arrival in France. Maybe you felt it because you love Gold Ship?
Freedom from the beak for Moosie. Beak, stay clear of Dan and watch out for the Snake and the Beast. They are wild guys.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
Yes this is so ironic Had no idea they were to arrive today. Wonder If Gold Ship wanted me to know……………….

Dear Debbie
I got to see Street Cry a number of years ago at Darley. Was so fortunate was a quite afternoon there and I got to spend some nice time visiting him. Just fell in love with him and was so saddened by his passing. But, the only thing that helps my heart is that we’ve all got to go one day and it does make me happy seeing all his youngsters. So mostly including Zenyatta. And how wondereful seeing his granddaughter Sweet Reason Oh gosh (today) looking so forward to that. Counting the minutes. Love Street Sense too.
I’m looking forward to I believe seeing our greats again one day. Heaven I think is going to be a wonderful place. One day when its time I hope we all get there.
Hoping to see Tasty again one day too.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sally
How is Sir’s situation. I have missed a few posts. So don’t know if i’ve missed anything.
I hope that someone can get to that lady and help change her mind. On the euthanation. Don’t even like to say that word.

Dear Max.The Japanese horses have to fly via Amsterdam because of a strike with Air France, must be the traffic controllers again!Yes,Moosie will need an AirForce,Army and Navy when he declares independence.Something for the beak to worry about.Freedom for the Moose.PU Hovis and other sick animals.Sheena.Forgot Frank Gillespie GG’s owner won the Ayr Gold Cup today with Louis the Pious.James Doyle riding.
Max
Sheena. Here is hoping that Os lets Moosie use the pound. Because he refused the Scots, Moosie might have to use stud muffins. In that case, the Moosester might eat his currency or hoard it.
Things just went south for Chromie.
Free for the Moose. Give him his own country.

That was an exciting race.Sweet Reason was closing in and just when I thought she may be done at third she started gaining again!!!!! I was so excited! Did she end up second or third, played it twice and hard to tell.Untapable was terrific but my heart was with Street Sense’s little gal. Great effort by them all!

BGG and Peggy-no need to answer my question.

Bayern Runs Away with Pennsylvania Derby
TDN Updated: 6:00 PM ET (First posted: 5:58 PM ET)
BAYERN (c, 3, Offlee Wild–Alittlebitearly, by Thunder Gulch), allowed to set surprisingly easy fractions despite a pronounced speed bias at Parx Saturday, proved not for catching as he streaked home to a six-length score. Tapiture (Tapit) edged Candy Boy (Candy Ride {Arg}) for second, while odds-on choice California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) never looked comfortable down on the inside and faded to sixth. Bayern, a smashing winner of both the GII Woody Stephens S. and GI Haskell Invitational, was coming off a last-place run in the GI Travers S. Aug. 23. His time of 1:46 4/5 lowered a track record that had stood since 1974. He was 7-2. Lifetime Record: 9-5-1-1.

Dear Barb:
Hope CC came out of the race in good shape.’
I wanted to tell you I saw your post about the PBS program on the Roosevelts. I have been watching it. You’re so right, young people would benefit from watching this series. It’s very well done. Couldn’t help thinking though, so many of the problems and turmoil in the world at that time are very similar to what we are experiencing right now; war and killing. Sad. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
I hope CC is okay, too — darn that Post 1 draw!
I have been watching the PBS program,The Roosevelts, also. It is wonderfully done. FDR had his flaws, but my goodness, he was brilliant! If ever there was the right man at the right time, he was it. When I was clearing out my grandparents’ home, I came across a picture (print) of Franklin R. which had been packed away many years before. It was mentioned in the program that many homes at that time had a picture of the president displayed. I kept it. I think Mr. Churchill and FDR were my grandfather’s greatest heroes. We surely could use their abilities now!
I missed the first two episodes which covered TR and hope to catch a repeat showing.
Have a good night and lovely Sunday with Charlie and the gang!
Lots of Hugs and Love

Dear Marshall and Barb W:
Marshall, what a great piece of history you have there in the print of President Roosevelt. Thank you for your kind wishes. There is a new TB boy at the farm called To Dubai. Will take some photos when I visit tomorrow.
Barb, love the programs on PBS. They’re always spot on. Love and Hugs, JB

@Judy and Marshall–it’s over now, and I will miss tuning in tomorrow night. I felt as if I were living through both World Wars as they unfolded on the screen.,
Max
Only saw the last parts, but it was very well done. My grand parents used to talk about Eleanor Roosevelt being a smart woman. She was truly impressive as of course was FDR. Learned a lot from this series.
