Happy Wednesday!
As you may know, we were in Kentucky last week visiting Zenyatta, 14Z, and Ziconic. We posted photos from Lane’s End on Instagram and Facebook throughout the week, and we were happy to see so many of you following!
It still felt like summer in Kentucky, and we arrived to a beautiful full moon. We brought lots of pears, carrots, and mints with us and spent time with the horses every morning and afternoon.
This trip was extra special because Jeanne, April, and Jackie from Mayberry Farm were in town for the yearling sale. They were thrilled to spend time with us at Lane’s End and to meet Ziconic and Z Princess for the first time. It won’t be long before Ziconic goes to their the farm in Ocala for training.
Scroll down to see more photos from our visit. One of our favorites is available in the shop today!
Today’s post is dedicated to Street Cry, who will live on through Zenyatta, her children, and champions around the world.
Enjoy!

Dear BGG
Shack looks just wonderful. Thanks so for the picture.

I know they put a tag on the foal’s halter to make sure mom and baby are matched. is that what the tag on Zenyatta’s is for? and why are there all the places with green looking tape on Z Princess’s halter? Crazy questions I know but I am just curious. They all look so happy and very well taken care of at Lane’s End. I have got to get down there one day. Thanks!
Linda in NJ
Hi Donna
I wonder the same thing with the green tags.
debbie s.
Dear Sheena
Atta boy Monty!!! I didn’t realize how much I miss them all until I saw his beautiful big wings and him still protecting his nest.Ahhhhhhh. Thanks, wouldn’t want to have missed that one..
Had a great holiday, one hike was up to the top of a hill with Tully where my Grandpa and I use to sit and and look out over ocean and Keats Island..Tully lives for water and really enjoyed her swims, lots of time together. Also had fun with a friend and her animals-Tully’s friend Buck (coon hound),2 goats,5 sheep and a rabbit.
When I got home I spent time with Ash and also had some house repairs to deal with.
Nothing important but it’s nice things are calming down now.
You must be so relieved and hope you will have a good sleep tonight.
Big hugs,Debbie

Z-Princess has gotten so big! Her mane and tail are filling out- she looks like a yearling. Saddens me to see her growing up so fast-it means she will be weaned soon.
Ziconic is getting to be quite the handsome devil,
Zenyatta, you make beautiful babies

Dear Debbie. So glad you enjoyed the video.I miss the family so much and often think if they’ve arrived in Africa safely,it’s a wonder we can’t still hear Deri!!!I’m quite used to late nights never go to bed early.
I’m glad you and Tully had a great holiday and had fun with 2 leggers and 4 leggers! Ash must have been glad to see you back.Poor Kathy has had a lot of worry with General but he’s a lot better now.Our pets mean the world to us and the manly Hovis. His mum has been tearing her hair out.Hoping he’s back to full-fitness soon.Have Sweet Dreams.God bless.Love and hugs Sheena.

Dear Max.As you may have guessed I am quite a happy bunny today. The sun may have set on the British Empire a very long time ago but it hasn’t set on the UK yet!Alec Salmond has resigned,he had a dream of a free Scotland and it didn’t come to pass.I respect his beliefs as I do most politicians but it doesn’t mean I agree with them.
Poor Hovis having his feathers shaved off something like Samson losing his hair.I will be glad to see him back poncing again and I,for one, like to see a man cry!Mike Marshall is joining Roger Varian as his new assistant he used to be with Sir Henry. Not long to the Arc now fairly quiet weekend over here. The Moose must return and bring joy to racing again!Free him.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Very happy that you are okay with the results. Told you that freedom never comes from a ballot box. Unfortunately, that tedious separation stuff and this devo talk is not going away. Hopefully for your sake it might go quiet for a while. Boris now wants independence for London. Like the Vatican?
Why is Varian calling his stable Kremlin Place?
Free the Moose! Beast, another day closer to your return. Snake, keep training. Dan, most interesting horse in the world, bed time.

Dear Max, Sheena, Ann, Peggy, Marshall, Kathy R, Sally B, Sue Fredrick, Barb W, debbie s and Z Fans:
This is the gorgeous To Dubai. Angela brought him home from Suffolk Downs yesterday. Here are some photos of him and a video of him winning his Maiden at Saratoga. You can see his beautiful face at the end when they remove his Blinker Mask. In the photo with Alex he reminds me a bit of Hudson. He will be trained as a barrel racer for Alex.
Max, he has Mr. Prospector and Native Dancer on his Sire’s side and Danzig and Northern Dancer on his Dam’s. His build is stocky and his legs are not too long, so hopefully he will take to his new career well. Love and Hugs, JB

Max
JudyB. He’s magnificent looking. If he’s got Danzig and Northern Dancer, he is probably feisty. In the photo, he looks to be on the tiny side like the Beast?
Moose, freedom, neigh! BDS, time to snooze.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
He’s not as tall, but kind of “tiny”. He could use a little bit more weight, as you can see from the photos. Have to give him some Stud Muffins and lots of carrots.
He was kicking up a storm in the trailer when he arrived at the farm. Angela said he did ride well though. Alex is absolutely thrilled with him. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Yes, he might need some eats to put on some more weight, but he looks healthy.
Here’s the Beast in all of his glory before the King’s Bishop. Dan might have been influenced by this for the BB.

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the links! To Dubai is gorgeous! That was quite a race, too. I am so glad that he has “won the lottery” by having Angela rescue him. A happy ending is definitely to be savored, gratefully. PLUS, he gets to hang out with you, Charlie, Hudson and the gang!
Lots of Hugs and Love

Hello to Team Z
I was so upset yesterday when I learned of Street Cry’s passing, I failed to mention the beautiful pics of Z Princess and of Ziconic and of course, our Zenny. What beautiful children Zenny has and what a great job you did of capturing these special moments.
I love them all, but I love the close up of Ziconic. His blaze is so unique. It comes down to a point. I never noticed that before. He is really such a handsome horse. The other one I love is the profile of Z Princess. She is beautiful. She still has a wavey mane.
Thank you so much for sharing the family photos. As many others have already commented: These photos really put a smile on our faces and brighten up our day.
Love

Dear Max.This devo talk is not going away Cornwall is talking of independence and the English want their own parliament!I never liked the idea of a devolution in the first place.I was quite happy being governed by Westminster. It’s been more trouble than the worth of it.Roger Varian took over Michael Jarvis’ stables in 2010.Prince Soltykoff of Russia owned them,he came over to Newmarket after the Crimean war and never returned home. They are in a most beautiful part of the UK.There was an open day there today and Kingston Hill was parading.Free the Moose .PU Hovis and all sick 4-legged friends.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Agree with you. The UK was doing just fine for centuries as a unity state.
Thanks for the explanation of Kremlin Place. Understand now.
Devo Max for the Moose. The Moose must govern himself. Moosie makes the rules. DBS, lights out.

OH MY GOODNESS!! Thank you so much for keeping us up to date and most of all the absolutely beautiful and cute pictures!!!!!! I am in love with that picture of Z and will most likely go to the shop!
I think it is so wonderful of you, and rightfully so, to with admiration dedicate this post to Street Cry.
Hi April and Jeanne, you are the persons that I kept visting for two years in a row!! I missed Coz though because I could not get down there this last year. (Perhaps I could not have seen Coz anyway) You love the horses and I recognized the seriousness of the well being and training of the horses you have responsibility for. I admire you.
I really feel so sad for Street Cry and to those others in the future that could have been something because of him. When I think of Zenyatta; WOW!

Hi Zters! I just got back from a couple of days visiting my dearest friend Sue F. and go bumming and just have our female fun. Her hubby Bob is the greatest guy too! My husband was further up north. That is when I learned about Street Cry!! SO SAD!! A dad to Zenyatta, , had to die so early at 16?! I really prayed for Street Cry when I found out a bit ago from your posts. God sometimes does not present a reason and I know from past experience that I sometimes don’t understand why this person or now this horse had to die. But, in horses, I know Zenyatta has given birth to the three most desirable awesome horses, by mom and their dads and the greatness will carry on. It is still very very sad.
hugs, to all, Sally B

Dear Sheena
Yes,it was great to see Ash and I got a few nice whinneys. He is still very decisive about where he wants to be scratched when we are out in the paddock-smile. I hope Hovis is feeling better soon and of course General.Pray for our osprey family and miss watching them and esp Deri’s cry (yes,I do). Hope that there is not too much unrest going forward for the U.K.-what is the mood there? Looking forward to the race tomorrow!

Dear Zters; Although there is so much I miss about all that you are talking about, and I truly apologize, while have missed many things that have been in your hearts, I am sorry when I miss them. I really am.
I just want to thank you for your concern with Sir because he has been always on my mind. Just look what Zenyatta blog brought to all of us; so very likeable people who have truly cared for one another beyond the horses.
My last post was of where Sir is and that he will put him down before winter, because she can not have him there.
Barbara W. and Judy B in connection with one another would call rescues in Wi to help me, for Sir. Barbara had a list of rescues. I will never be able to thank Barb and Judy enough for their compassion.
For some reason this owner, trainer, stated personally to me : that she would rather put him down before giving him to a rescue as they would not feed him enough. She complained about him to me for many many reasons but she insisted she would put him down unless her specifics were met.
A couple of volunteers that love him too say, it was a good thing you had a conversation and what you were able to say between all her interruptions was a good thing. Perhaps she will think things over.
Tick tok, tick tok. I pray Becky will think things over, allow us to pay for a vetting so we can proceed for a home for Sir.
I really value your friendship Zsters! Just thank you for listening.
hugs, Sally B

Dear Peggy(N)
I received the picture of Mr.Eddie Sweat and Secretariat this week.It is so special, the feeling between them is pure love and I just didn’t want to put the picture down.I read all I could find about Mr.Sweat and was sad to learn that ironically for a man who wasn’t sick a day when he took such heartfelt care of Secretariat – he was very sick with many afflictions later in life and died a poor man. That is poor in dollars but certainly not in spirit. He had” the gift” or some say “the touch” and for someone to have a heart like that he was rich in so many ways that count Oh the memories!!.Thank-you very much for telling me about this photo-I will cherish it.The grooms are so important, hope they receive the recognition they deserve.
With appreciation,
Debbie
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Debbie
I got my picture too. I just love it and will cherish it forever. Such a nice post that you wrote. I know I was heartbroken when I read all about Eddie’s problems later in life too. But, I take a lot of comfort in I believe he and Red have probably been reunited now.
That picture yes just is pure love.
I appreciate the grooms so much and what they do each day
Debbie if you have never read about Man O’ War and his groom. It is a wonderful story too. Man O’ War died only about a month after his groom did. Some say he grieved himself to death. O K i’m crying now. Just love our horses so much.
debbie s.
Dear Peggy
Thank-you.I believe Eddie and Red are together again too.
I have not read about Man O’War and his groom, will look forward to that.
Will be cheering for Chrome in the P. Derby tomorrow and Sweet Reason in the Cottilion. I learned about Sweet Reason when I was reading about Street Cry and Street Sense and have a soft spot for her as well..What a day it will be!
Goodnight,
Debbie

Little Thurzel update:
Went to see my little girl today. Walked down to the paddock with another owner who was going to take her fellow, Oscar, up to be clipped – she had a bucket of pellets with her. They were all up the top of the hill, and began to approach when they saw the bucket – I had my usual Judy treats, and called out to her – she came straight across which was terrific. There was some of the usual mayhem when food is about and the blokes go feral, so Michelle (Oscar’s owner) and I left. We were just closing the gate, when the herd turned up, so we got little Thurzel out, and the two of us talked and patted our horses. I was so over the moon when my little girl put her head on my shoulder! I leant my head towards hers, and she gave a big sigh – so I smoothed her face and neck and was able to give her a kiss on the nose – just wonderful! When I turned her back out, she seemed reluctant to go off with the others, but I told her I’d be back tomorrow, so she ambled away. How blessed I feel to have her in my life. Hugs KathyR
