Happy Wednesday!
As you may know, we were in Kentucky last week visiting Zenyatta, 14Z, and Ziconic. We posted photos from Lane’s End on Instagram and Facebook throughout the week, and we were happy to see so many of you following!
It still felt like summer in Kentucky, and we arrived to a beautiful full moon. We brought lots of pears, carrots, and mints with us and spent time with the horses every morning and afternoon.
This trip was extra special because Jeanne, April, and Jackie from Mayberry Farm were in town for the yearling sale. They were thrilled to spend time with us at Lane’s End and to meet Ziconic and Z Princess for the first time. It won’t be long before Ziconic goes to their the farm in Ocala for training.
Scroll down to see more photos from our visit. One of our favorites is available in the shop today!
Today’s post is dedicated to Street Cry, who will live on through Zenyatta, her children, and champions around the world.
Enjoy!

Kingman has been retired and will stand at Banstead Manor Stud in 2015,
confirmed racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe
Channel 4 Racing
Kingman retires to stud after it was felt he would be unable to recover from a throat infection for either Champions Day or Breeders’ Cup
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear BGG:
Thanks for this. Wishing Kingman a happy, healthy retirement. Love and Hugs, JB
debbie s.
So many horses being retired, glad you are a watchful eye and wish them the best.
Janet Newman
Judy B,
It will be interesting to see who Princess of Sylmar’s new owners will be. I would not count out Coolmore or Darley throwing their hats into the ring. Of course the Japanese are always looking for stand out mares, lately they have been spending the bigger bucks to get more versus a single high ticket. Just never know.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Janet:
You are spot on and I am hoping and praying she stays Stateside. Love and Hugs, JB

I am so hoping that Mandy Pope or Barbara Banke are looking
for an addition to their outstanding mares.
That would be the best outcome.

Dear Janet
Read your post yesterday- you made some very good points, well said.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.I am sad to hear of Kingman’s early retirement. He was a very exciting horse to watch, should have won the 2000 guineas really.A throat infection has all but ruled him out of his autumn campaign and somehow I always had the feeling Khalid Abdulla wasn’t going to keep him on as a 4yr old.Another great stallion at Banstead.Freedom for the Moose! You have a country to rule!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Read about this and sorry to hear that he’s ailing. He’s retiring to a beautiful spot. I hope that Noble Mission keeps going. With Frankel on duty, Noble can keep racing. Saw that article in the RP about the world’s best jockeys. Young Joe is first and Javier and Uncle Johnny are no where? Who made that list?
Free the Moose! Beast, Dan And Snake, stay interesting. In your cases, not hard to do.
vicki
Loved the wonderful photos of Zenny and Ann especially. The bond between them is so special. PrinZess is getting so big. Ziconic is an equine Brad Pitt. Early betting 60-1 on Cozmic One in the 2015 Derby! Sad though about Street Cry. He will live forever in racing lore through his daughter The Queen. I am glad and sad to see GOD retire. A tiny part of me wanted a chance for him to win the Classic. After all, don’t we all believe in a little racing magic? Jackie is in the doghouse bigtime! Such a pretty day I left a window open and he decided to push the screen out. As I am driving down the highway home there is Jackie chasing our mail lady down the middle of the road. He thought it was all great fun.
Barbara Brayton
Everyone looks good. Have been off the board for some time. Sorry to see CC lost his race. What was the point of bottling him up and letting Bayern run off with the race. Shooting themselves in the foot, if you ask me.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Barbara Brayton:
Good to see a post from you. Love your horse racing terminology “been ‘off the board’ for some time”. Love and Hugs, JB

Happy Birthday, Darlene Daniels! The restaurant business must be very good, because we have missed you so here. Hope you are having a wonderful day.
To all–yesterday Judy B. asked for pictures of Money, which I am still too dull techno-wise to upload, but I do have a link that she suggested I post. This was November, so everything looks dull and brown, and he’s mostly rolling in the arena and having fun, but he had been laid up for over 2 months with life-threatening cellulitis. It took 3 rounds of antibiotics, twice daily washing, stall rest, which he HATES, and many prayers on our part. That back leg is still swollen at times, and the vet says it might always be, but it doesn’t bother him a whit. Love to all.

Bonjour Zenyatta,
You are looking great!
Your daughter is absolutely beautiful, and I see that she has the white
part on her face which is very similar to yours.
I see that Ziconic and Ms. Princess look very much alike. It is difficult to tell them
apart.
It would have been nice to see videos of both of you but NO such luck.
I am eager to see Coz race soon.
God love you both plus Ziconic and Coz.
Thank you!

Simply magnificent photos! How beautiful they are.

Dear Max.Young Joe top of the rankings???Are they nuts?? Is this because he belongs to the Coolmore gang!At least Christophe is a top jockey.Ryan Moore only 3rd and as you say where are the US jockeys.I am very surprised.
I do hope NM can carry on for a while so many young good horses retiring, they could have brought Kingman back in the spring, that’s why a lot of us in the UK prefer the NH because the horses are around much longer, look how long Kauto’s career lasted.
I left you a post on the previous page how to access the Queen’s twitter.Freedom for the Moose! He rules!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. 3 is really young for Kingman to retire. He seems to be related through his dam to Brad Pitt. His sire was the father of Urban Sea’s last foal. She died after giving birth to that foal. She was far too young to pass. What a lovely mare she was, and very talented as a racer. Agree about the NH horses. Looked up that Twitter. It’s funny but it’s definitely not the real Queen. She’s far too discreet for those kind of comments.
Don’t understand that jockey list. There are some US jockeys on it, but they’ve got very few points. It must be restricted to certain races.
Free the Moose. Dan, Snake and Beast, time to think about getting some sleep. Put down those iPads.
Kimberly
How fortunate to spend time with the Queen and her kids! They are all so beautiful! Thank you for the wonderful pics!

Dear Debbie.I so loved your post about visiting Ash and helping with his bath.It must be such a joy for you to be hands-on with him.It was a lovely day over here so I visited the dyfi website.I’m surprised to see the live-streaming still on,it’s so lonely without the ospreys. They kept it up and running last year because the chicks were late.Roll on spring!Have sweet dreams. Love and hugs Sheena.

“Three Chimneys-Second Careers and Flower Alley” (sorry, don’t know how to send a link) gives a fabuloust look at Three Chimneys and what life is like for their sires.
The photos of Flower Alley are stunning and he is such a great horse.
I do not want to see him go to South Africa-he has such a good life and is ridden daily with lots of pasture turnout, he should stay where he is.
Tully is doing well,,Dad is good and my 3 children are fine,I am healing from a back problem and need to be a little smarter. Today is fall like, time for some good books.
Goodnight,sweet dreams, love Debbie

All the Best to Flower Alley in S.A. I sure hope he will be safe and loved there. Maybe he will make it back home after awhile; we can only hope for his return. Prayers for good health and for good care. Big Hugs to you, FA
Janet Newman
Marshall,
I am sure they will take good care of Flower Alley. When they lost Tiger Ridge in January, they needed to find a worthy replacement. TR was very successful there.
He was a half brother to A. P. Indy and was sired by Storm Cat.
Here is a link to their web page.

I agree with everyone on the previous page. Yes, Mandy Pope, where are you. Hope you go to the Fasig Tipton Sale. The beautiful Princess of Sylmar needs your help.
Will pray real hard.
Barbara Wood, I’ld eat Oatmeal 3 times a day too. To Keep Them.
Are their Broodmare’s at Calumet? Brad Kelly could help too.
I know Michael Ivarone did have Broodmares. Sure hope someone steps up.
LauraJ (Cincinnati)
There are many horses who need help. Princess of Sylmar is not one of them. She’ll sell for seven figures and go to someone who will treat her well, even if just to protect their investment. And unless she’s a total b—– (and I have no reason to think she is), she’ll have people around her who will love her.

It is the right of every person to see that all the important and precious things of life are not blown away like vapor trails in high wind. Promises are tossed off so that the word, once thought a contract, is only talk and not sincere. Are agreements and promises only for the moment and not to be kept? Another person’s word is of no concern if our own integrity has grown thin. True friendship takes two. envy and getting the edge is not being a friend. It is self-interest-and self-destruction. Do we expect others to be what we cannot be?

Dear Kathy.Your post is exactly what’s happening in the UK these days.Politicians making promises??.I’ve been in cat-heaven watching the Friskies advert on Joey’s page.Gosh, the video of them all spreading his ashes was so touching. He’s back where he belongs ,his beloved garden,as I watched I was imagining him playing and strolling through the garden.I hope in time they will recue another cat although no one could ever replace Joey.
Mango’s mom is making good headway, she’s already in Arkansas ,lot of bugs around! There’ll be a lot of excitement when she arrives home.Poor Marty is getting overwhelmed by his fame and there are shady chickens living in Slovenia!Plus he got some yogis from there.Did you see that wonderful video Zoe posted of the horse and the little boy with Williams Syndrome. The connection between them was amazing. Is it Basketball or baseball Zoe enjoys watching?Boo was explaining how comfy his boots are to wear.He doesn’t like getting his paws dirty!Have a great day.Monday is over,we can put our socks away for another week.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly, Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Wasn’t it wonderful to be able to view the scattering of our dear Joey’s ashes?!! The doctors who cared for him gave a good explanation of what happened to him, too. It’s always a blessing to be included in the loop on one whom you hold so dear. I’m excited for Mango with mom making her way back home. I wonder if Marty’s yogies from Slovenia are chicken flavor?!! lol I did see the video of the little boy and the horse. Brought tears to my eyes! Many times animals are a lot kinder than people. We could take a lesson from the animal kingdom! Zoe is watching football. I was surprised to learn that the booties Boo and Buddy wear are disposable. They’re certainly fashionable! Love their harnesses, too! Have a lovely Tuesday. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
