There is the story of adorable 3-year-old filly, Lucky, who has 2 club feet from birth and was kept in a stall for 3 years! She is getting splints and casts rather than surgery. HorseRacingAustralia tweet Up to 10 jockeys placed bets: report
Here is the article
Up to 10 jockeys face bans because they placed bets through third parties,
News Limited newspapers say.
It is believed betting by jockeys, brought to the surface with leading rider Damien Oliver admitting to betting $10,000 on a horse running in the same race in which he was riding, is widespread.
News Limited says one punter is believed to have co-operated with authorities only after being threatened with a lengthy ban from race tracks.
“Well-placed sources say he maintains a ledger that records bets of a number of top-flight jockeys,” reports said on Thursday.
“Industry sources say as many as 10 high-profile jockeys could face sanctions as a result of inquiries under way, further damaging a sport still reeling over the Oliver affair.”

Kathy R.
Dear Keta: This is one story I wish we didn’t have to read about – the whole situation is getting nastier by the moment – and not just because of the jockeys involved – Oliver had nine rides for Emirates Stakes Day – with nine different trainers – and most of them top trainers at that. And then racing wonders why people are losing interest.

@ Sandy in NE Ohio–Of course, you can post any pictures that either Dana or i appear in!! I’d be thrilled! I have not looked at my e-mail for a few days–will check tonight to see if the ones you sent me show up. Thanks for sending them!! That will be a treat to look forward to tonight after work. The past two nights,I’ve had rehearsals after work so didn’t get on the computer.
I am SO excited for Ebby on Friday—it would be great if she blew everybody away–but,as many have already said, the main thing is that she come home safe and sound. How truly exquisite she is!! I really hope to meet her next year when I hit BC 13!! Wouldn’t it be great if were to be RUNNING in the BC??
You should see Barnaby’s hair!!! After several snowy, cold and gloomy days, the sun is out today, the sky is blue, with lovely white clouds. He has just been SHOOTING hair out of him,and he looks like a giant plush horse!! I keep telling him I’m going to braid it!! It appears that he will be able to keep himself warm this winter–no matter what!! I think when it started to get cold,he remembered his cold, windy winters on the cattle ranch in Neveada, and thought he’d better get busy!! We had such fun with them last Saturday–it was so cold that we didn’t ride, but groomed them and pulled those awful plants with the burrs. Sue pulled Traveller’s out,but Barnaby did not want tohave me pull the burrs out of his forelock–maybe I already told you,I had to give him a mohawk!! He looks cute with it–now I’m asking him if he wants me to have it dyed blue or green!!! He hasn’t let me know yet!! We all had fun just hanging out. Sue is having the horse chiropractor back again tomorrow and she is bringing a couple of special saddles to try on Traveller. They are adjustable with special pads–so we’ll see what she thinks of those! Have given Sue the ideas many of you sent and she will take one at a time until something works. She is most grateful for everyone’s concern for her baby!
Love to all–from all the crew here!!!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Thanks for sharing all of your stories Sue and hope they can find a saddle for Traveller.
The one that are adjustable are more reasonably priced and work better with the harder to fit. The custom ones, are much more expensive and are not changeable, other than
adding more “stuffing”.

SHACK BETTER OPT FOR THE CLARK HANDICAP, IF GROUPIE DOLL GOES TO THE MILE !!!! WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER RUN AGAINST THE BOYS, SHE IS SOO TALENTED.
Groupie Doll
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) winner Groupie Doll was scheduled to go to trainer Buff Bradley’s farm in Frankfort, Ky. earlier this week, but plans have changed and the 4-year-old filly remains at Churchill Downs to prepare for a possible start against the boys in the Nov. 24 Cigar Mile (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
“She’s so good right now,” Bradley said. “It wouldn’t be an easy race, but with as good as she is right now, we’re thinking about it.”
Groupie Doll originally was meant to leave for the farm just days after returning to Louisville following her Breeders’ Cup triumph at Santa Anita Park, but Bradley kept her at Churchill to participate in the Breeders’ Cup Parade of Champions, which was held at the Louisville track Nov. 11.
“When we took her over for the parade she was dragging them around,” Bradley said.
Bradley, who co-owns the filly with his father, Fred, and Carl Hurst and Brent Burns, said Groupie Doll’s assigned weight will be the deciding factor on whether to run in the Cigar. Weights are scheduled to be announced Nov. 18.
“We’ll check the weights and see,” Bradley said. “I want to make sure the weights are fair and, if they look all right, we’ll probably go.”
Groupie Doll, a homebred daughter of Bowman’s Band bred in Kentucky out of the Silver Deputy mare Deputy Doll, has won five of eight starts this year with one second and two thirds. Her other victories in 2012 include the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. II), the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (gr. II), the Humana Distaff (gr. I), and the Vinery Madison (gr. I).

Thanks for the video of Man O War. He looked awfully good for 22.
I remember visiting Faraway Farm as a little girl and seeing his statue and meeting one of his sons, War Admiral I think. He was in a box stall in the barn with a groom in attendance. I was too young to realize who he was. Very gentle, but must have been pretty old at the time.
So glad the statue has been moved to the Horse Park so many people can see him. If I remember correctly, it is life sized. Very impressive.

Great share! Man O’War has always held a special place in my heart.
My Dad is a graduate of UK. When he was a student in the early 1930’s, he used to go visit MOW fairly often,
As I was growing up he would tell me about visiting Big Red and his groom Will. That was the start of my love for horses.

LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
The Man O’War statue, by Herbert Haseltine, is bigger than life size (about 1.25X, IIRC). It’s a little over 8 feet tall. It is very impressive. Man O’War’s casket was moved along with the statue and he is interred beneath it. The graves of War Admiral and War Relic are at the base of the statue, and the graves of several other horses, including Brushup the dam of War Admiral, are located in a garden along the walkway that circles the statue. There is also the grave of one human, the great jockey Isaac Burns Murphy.

Hollywood Park: Smith replaces Bejarano on Executiveprivilege
By Steve Andersen Daily Racing Form 11/14/2012 4:01PM
Mike Smith will ride Executiveprivilege when she starts in the $500,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes on Dec. 8, replacing regular rider Rafael Bejarano.
Trainer Bob Baffert said on Wednesday that some leading mounts in his stable will be spread around to other riders. In recent months, Baffert has extensively used Bejarano. In the Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita on Nov. 2-3, Baffert and Bejarano were winless in four races as a team, including with two favorites.
Executiveprivilege finished second as the favorite to Beholder in the BC Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 2. The following day, Game On Dude was seventh as the 6-5 favorite in the BC Classic, losing any chance for a Horse of the Year title.
Baffert said that Game On Dude will start in the $250,000 Native Diver Stakes at Hollywood Park on Dec. 1, but was not sure who would ride the 5-year-old gelding.
“Rafael is still our go-to guy,” Baffert said. “We use Martin [Garcia], too. There will be changes but not in a dramatic way.”
Earlier this year, Garcia and Baffert had a falling out after a successful run in the early months of the year. Garcia did not ride for Baffert from mid-May until mid-July. Friday at Hollywood Park,
Garcia rides Baffert’s lone runner, Saturday Nite Ride in the race against Eblouissante.
http://www.drf.com/news/hollywood-park-smith-replaces-bejarano-executiveprivilege
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Very interesting,
Bob Baffert did an interview last weekend about his weekend at the races on HRTV,
and then commented that there would be some “commiticising” regarding GOD
performance in the BCC. Getting everyone together to talk about what happened I guess. I guess trying different riders is the plan.
GOD is a very hard horse to ride. Chantal used him up and had nothing to finish with in most of her races last year, got him buried in the Dubai World Cup.
Raphael did great in his first race with him this year, but got him buried in the BCC, which he hates. He is sooo very one dimensional that one wrong move and he is done.
Really does not seem to be a rider issue, horse has a lot to do with it. Maybe Mike Smith will be riding him ????
Interesting that he is riding Executive Privilege, she is a horse that you have to let run her own race or she “gets angry” and quits running. Raphael took her back in training and she quit and his ride seemed to be OK in the BC, just not he best horse.
Will have to see what all the changes will be in the Baffert barn.
Kathy R.

Four remaining overseas contenders, including Arc winner Solemia, arrive for Japan Cup
Horse Racing in Japan November 15, 2012
The remaining four horses from abroad arrived safely in Japan ahead of the Nov. 25 Japan Cup. Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe champion Solemia from France, and a trio of British horses coming off the Melbourne Cup and directly to Japan – Jakkalberry, Red Cadeaux and Mount Athos – all landed at Narita International Airport outside Tokyo on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The four represented the remaining participants coming from abroad for the international gala and fall racing festival at Tokyo Racecourse. They joined Britain’s Sri Putra, who had arrived earlier in the week, at the quarantine facilities located at the JRA Horseracing School.
France’s Solemia headed the billing, though her name in Japan is associated perhaps less with fame and more with infamy after the gutsy filly, under Olivier Peslier, snatched the Prix de l’Arc Triomphe last month from under the neck of Japan’s Orfevre just when he looked set to become Japan’s first Arc victor.

Jakkalberry is quite the world traveler. Arlington park in the US,

that would get our clocks in the US up in arms.

What’s a girl to do??? I’ve got GREAT pics of the Zenyatta party, but I am NOT going to be able to submit them for your gallery because the smallest is 1.5 MB, and the largest is 3.0 MB. Is is possible to modify the requirements? I will look and see if I can shrink, or crop, or desaturate my pics to get them under 1.0 MG, but I am not optimistic that it can be done.
Pati- Excited for E!!
If you can’t find a way to shrink them, I can always post them on my blog under a new category and post a link for every to look at them. That way, they can keep the original quality and size, and everyone still gets to see them.
