Hi All,
We had quite a busy weekend! The baby shower at Santa Anita went well despite the weather, which may have kept some of you away. We met so many kind people and definitely felt the Zenyatta love in the air. Thank you for all of your support and interest! Here are some photos for those of you who couldn’t make it.
We understand there is a lot of interest in the “It’s a Boy!” poster from this event. It’s now available for purchase, here, at Zenyatta Shop.
We’ve also been hard at work putting the final touches on the new Forum, so check back soon for updates and some more additions to the store!

Hi Z, how are you and Junior?, hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It rained here in Sac for 7 days!!!!! but we were not complaining bcos we needed the rain. Today’s a beautiful day with the sun out and all. Hope the weather is beautiful out were you are.
I hear the shower went well and am proud of all the Zensters who braved the weather to represent!!!!!!!!. Am greatful to all of them.
I really don’t have much to say, just wanted to check in with you and the little prince. You are such a good mother and junior a very lucky kid. Take care big mama and give junior our love. Gods Blessings always.!
Rose Edwards(Quarterhossgal)
Queen Z…..sounds like the baby shower was a success. I spoke with Chris at Santa Anita when I ordered my poster and she said Zenyatta fans are the greatest and they hoped to raise quite a bit of money for the Zenyatta charities.
Of course, we are wondering who Zenny will be meeting next. I’m guessing she will not be rebred at least until her second heat cycle. Since her foal heat has come and gone we can assume she has not been bred back yet. They have several good stallions at Lane’s End so maybe she will be bred right there on the farm.

Z Baby Shower gathering, I too missed it, mailed in a donation, bought a Z

Ordered the Shower poster from the Santa Anita web site. Not signed but I happily have the Queens poster signed by all from Zenyatta’s party at BC. Happy donations going to worthy causes. Love seeing all shower pics

“When we hurt, we learn how to love just that much more.”
I went on my old Disney movie/song relapse today…I have made three videos about Z and Prince with Disney songs. Old man Disney would be proud if I do say so myself. :-)
Well dear Z family. What a weekend it was. We had a storm that knocked out my satelite dish, and I missed the Santa Margarita. *cry* Could wait and turn off two minutes later, NOO!! Had to turn off right before it….Dish hates me. I am convinced because lately the only channel that plays without being glitched is our local news network which at this point is who died, what accident happened where, and celebrity drama and/or gossip. I hate that channel.
I, personally, will miss the racing scenes in Luck. I really liked them, but the mafia, and the drugs, and the blood and gore scenes I can do without. They were a bit ick….
The shelter that I volunteer at celebrated Rio’s first birthday! What a comeback he had, from skinny, unwanted foal, to big, strong yearling! He’s a tacker, and quite the survival expert!
Got inducted into BETA Club today. I am pretty proud of myself for being on top of grades and having my 3.8 GPA . Once all my AP classes factor in, I am hoping for much higher.
Well, night Z family!

High hoof on your GPA, Pati! And will we get to see your videos?

Yep, they will be posted on my Youtube account once I finish my final touches!

Hi all – Thanks Team Zenyatta for all the photos of the wet and rainy baby shower/ blowout! So thrilled the folks that went had such a great time. I just tried to order the baby foal/Z poster, but had to put myself on a waiting list. Really must have sold out quickly as I tried it around 4:00 p.m. ( zenyatta’s website shop) Perhaps the Santa Anita giftshop is a different story. Might try there.
Thanks to all posters who added additional pictures to make things so nice for us who weren’t so brave to face the freeway ( moi) Love you to the moon and back Zen, but not a fan of rainy driving weather. Hi to all Team Z your John, Dottie and Mike and I presume the lady is the artist of the amazing life-sized picture. I hope Mrs. Moss is feeling better – Thank you for keeping Zenyatta’s website such a warm and welcoming place to congregate.
TT hope all is well.

Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and photos
Of Zenny’s shower. What a great time for all of
Those who ventured into the rain.
So great to hear all of your personal stories!!!

Dear Sue Fredrick,
There is a really cute article in today’s TT about
AP Indy and how he has not yet sired a KY Derby
Winner, but he has a possible contender. It is a
Really cute article about this wonderful champion
Racing TB and sire.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin- Thankful
Signofthetimes, thank you, yes I just read it, he’s the man! Too bad he is not appreciated as much by some here. And part of this heritage is being passed on to 12Z, wow, what a pedigree he has! I love Union Rags but I will be rooting for an Indy kid or grandkid to win the derby. Hugs
signofthetimes
I just love Indy; hope I can get to LE to see him this
Year; I love UR, but Indy’s boy will be very special
For me too.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin- Thankful
Sign, hope I get there again this year too, he’s 23 years old but you never know. Be sure and take carrots and lots of peppermints he just looooves them! If you slip his groom a ten he’ll make sure you get some extra pictures and time with him. He’s a nice black man (can’t) remember his name and told me when Indy goes he’ll be heartbroken he loves him so much. Hugs
PS The derby could have #s of Indy progeny, Hansen, Alpha, Take Charge Indy, El Padrino, Ranconteur, and Optimizer.
Max
Sue: AP is a great horse. He’s like family to Z. Thanks to him, we have Bernie to admire. He is also grandfather to Stay Thirsty as well as 12Z. I am hoping for good results from Thirsty this year.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max, Sue Fredrick, Sign and Z Fans:
A. P. Indy is building an amazing legacy; almost rivals Northern Dancer. He has so many wonderful sons, daughters and “grandkids” like Stay Thirsty and Alpha. Also, one of his sons, Take Charge Indy, is a probable starter in this year’s Kentucky Derby. And, of course, he’s the sire of my favorite, Bernardini. Hugs, JB

It looks like the baby shower for Zenyatta was quite a success, I was unable to make it. Sending much love to Zenyatta and her baby Colt. Will be looking for more pictures soon. Please keep us informed regarding Tasty. I thought she should have had her Foal by now. We are concerned. It will be nice for Zenyatta and Tasty to share the paddock with their new Foals. Will be praying to hear soon about all of them. Really miss you Zenny and love you so much.
zenyen
Unfortunately it is unlikely that Tasty and Zenyatta will continue to be paddockmates. The ages between their foals will be too far for it to be safe.
Jean Friedman
I wish I could have been there, too. Thanks so much for the photos….the party looked lovely. I must say, in the latest photo of Zenyatta with her baby, it appears to me that her colt is looking directly at the camera, or am I imagining things. He was only 3 days old, and posing for a picture, just like his Mama did….Of course, now Zenyatta’s attention is focused on her baby…How amazing is that? Jean.

Hope you are okay, Terry. We sure miss you!
Let us hear from you soon. Hugs!

I have been wondering the same – I hope he shows up soon or he will have to contend with us coming to find him.

Thank you for the pics. Hope everyone had a wonderful time.

Wish I could have been there! I live in a little nowhere town in nebraska so the chances of me ever meeting or seeing anyone are very slim. I hope all of you that went are appreciative of your ability to do so, I’d love a chance to meet the team and thank them. Looks like it was a lot of fun! Thanks team Z for keeping us all updated we really appreciate your efforts!!

Well, thank heaven us little town gals have this website, that’s for sure. Keeps us sane and happy and in the Z loop. I appreciate it greatly.
I thought for awhile I was a lone Zenyatta crazy person until I found this.

So good to see John, Dottie and Mike. I hope the shower was a huge $uccess!. Hope to be able to make it to CA for BCC. Miss the daily diary post and hearing from Z (via Dottie) so very much, but I also know things cannot remain the same forever.
Best wishes to all and hope all is well.
Isn’t Z12 a cutie and isn’t Z a fabulous mother?
I am almost over my crying jag but not quite!!
Love hugs and kisses to everyone.

Thanks for sharing the photos and letting us know more about the shower. Too bad the rain showers kept more folks from attending. It still seems like it was a wonderful event. Those rain showers from CA have moved to TX and we are about to wash away in my northern TX area – lots of mud puddles for the dog to splash in – lol!

@awn Conrad.
It looks like you are getting our Peyton Manning as your new Bronco’s QB. You are getting a very fine man there. We here in Indiana are going to miss him terribly. Hope you all love him as much as we do.
Have a great day.

That was a cool thing for the track and Z’s people to host. :) Mike is looking very handsome, and I’m glad the poster is for sale now. California is a bit far for me.
Amanda
Well I still do not see Tasty’s name on the foal list at Lane’s End. The only thing I’m happy about is that it is Tasty we are having to wait on and not Zenny. I don’t think would have been able to keep it together this long. LOL I’m glad the “shower” went well and Mike is just the cutest ever! Anybody that went, where you able to get an update on how Zenny and Z12 are doing?
Alex Bowdoin, MA
I wonder how TT is doing? Her foal is certainly taking her/his time!! I do so hope that
she will be back with Z and 12Z in paddock in the future??? Wait and see…HUGS TO ALL
zenyen
Unlikely that Tasty will be re-introduced to Zenyatta as a paddock mate at this point.
Alex Bowdoin, MA
Sorry to hear that!! TT and Z got along so well together.
signofthetimes
Zenny gets along with most horses as long as
They are not trying to be dominant; LE will
Weed those horses and put her with a great group.
Horses have many friends both human and equine through
Out their lives just as humans do.

Alex, I don’t think you saw all the birthday greetings to you and your birthday poem on March 16.
Alex Bowdoin, MA
I did not, I will go look for them. I was not on my computer at all over the weekend….Thanks!
Alex Bowdoin, MA
@Trina, THANK YOU….that poem is Beautiful!!! Do you happen to write notes on everyone as you read our posts? Too Cute!! I love it. I HAVE run out of wall space, 2 floors worth in my Townhouse!! I have taken Z’s “Flying” to the framers along with a photo of the winner of the 2010 Defenders of Wildlife photo contest. The black wolf called “Survivor” It is an Amazing photograph. I hope to get them back this Saturday if they had all of the material needed to frame them, if not, next week. We picked out really great frames with museum glass….HUGS TO ALL.

I thought he was buried on university campus in Omaha Neb…is it not true?
Heidi K (Vallejo, Ca.)
Carol, that’s what I thought too? If I remember the story correct, he’s outside of one of the classes and they throw food onto his grave.. Or, something like that?

Dear Karen, The website http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=6392590 shows a Nebraska Historical Marker for Omaha with the birth date March 24, 1932. Is the marker in error?

Hi Z Family I want to peronally thank Ashton for starting the candle site. I also want everyone to know that today is Madame Mistletoe’s 3 Birthday. We are having a cake in her honor. She sent us a Bonsai Tree in memory of Trey. I know Mistletoe is just a small racehorse compared to our Queen but I wanted the children to have someone to cheer for that is racing. I know Zenyatta and her generous nature would take Mistletoe under her wing and give her pointers. Zenyatta will always be the Greatest. I just want to pass on the love of the sport to my young students because I have found it to be exciting and fun. Plus I just LOVE HORSES !! I hope all have a good day. Love, Shari

A Birthday Poem for Robyn Henderson
(March 20, 2012)
Our dear Robyn Henderson
Always has fun
At the races.
At Santa Anita,
The Great Race Place,
Robyn typically graces
The south side
Of the Seabiscuit Walking Ring
Where she finds it the neatest thing
To see the horses up close
As the jockeys get ready to ride.
She wears a bright smile
You can see for a mile,
And if you’ve heard the rumor
That she has a great sense of humor,
Well, you can tell
That it’s true
From a photo
She may to you show
On her cell
Of herself sitting proudly astride
A handsome palomino
Or dun,
Which, she does confide,
She finds it fun
To ride.
He’s a steed
Full of speed,
And in the photo
He’s in full run
As if on the lead
In a race.
Without a whinny or neigh,
He’s underway,
Nor does it take a lot
To make him go—
Just a few coins in the slot!
Robyn is also a fan
Of the great
Lava Man,
Who her birthday does share.
Robyn did declare
’Twas her plan
To bake
Some carrot cake
To take to Lava Man
So together they can celebrate
This special date!
Robyn and Lava Man,
As we you both commemorate,
Let me state
You two rate
Our highest praise
And the very happiest of birthdays
To date!
Happy birthday, Robyn and Lava Man, and many, many more!

I’m so glad that there are a couple more days to get money to Marlene to save those seven babies from slaughter. If you look at the sweet horses that she is trying to save on the website, you will see that number 5 has now been named Barnaby! When I sent my contribution,I also sent an email, explaining that that was in honor of Zenny and her foal (before I knew about poor darling Trey) and also told her how much “the tank” looked like my dear Barnaby. She emailed me back and told me it was a good name for him and now he has a new name!!! Isn’t that wonderful?? Now,if one of my lottery tickets will just pay off,I’ll adopt him and put him at the ranch with Traveler and Casey!! What a dream come true THAT would be!!! My Barnaby has been gone for almost twenty years but I think it would make him happy to know that he has a “double” running around on earth with his name!!
@ Abby-Where in Nebraska are you?? My step-mom was from there–a little town called Surprise, which is actually very lovely. She also spent time growing up in Alliance and Rising City and David City. I think the small NE towns are neat! After she and my dad were married, they ended up in Lincoln. My brother worked summers ,in high s chool, on a big ranch outside Ogallala (ssp?). My half-sister lives in Gretna, outside Omaha—-small world!!
Hope the money rolls in for the babies today and that Tasty will foal SOON!!! Love to all and special love to Shari and her dear class!
M. Kern
Someone from Lane’s End responded to our inquiries regarding Tasty about 5 hours ago. See Lane’s End facebook under Tasty Temptation album. Lane’s End Farm – “When we have Tasty news, we will post; she is doing fine and mean as ever.” I hope that post is for real. I am glad that she is doing fine but a bit surprised with the comment “mean as ever”.
zenyen
*Chuckles*
Just because Tasty always looked sweet with Zenyatta does not mean she has the same tolerance for her human caretakers. ;)
Also if you were two weeks past due and carrying an extra 130+lbs, you’d be cranky also.
Max
I am glad to hear that Tasty is doing well and is “mean.” She’s a thoroughbred! She also raced out of Woodbine where it is often quite entertaining to see the horses jump the fences before races and head back to the barns to see their pals. This happens on a regular basis up there. Ha! Love those guys and gals.
sharon in seattle
amen!
sharon in seattle
I really meant the “amen” for here : )
signofthetimes
Sounds like it may be a hacker or maybe she
Is very uncomfortable, pinning her ears or something;
I imagine she does not feel that great as Zenny did not
At the end .
The hormones are just not right for Tasty and her little
One. Everything is OK, remember they have a Vet 24/7 during
FoalIng season.
zenyen
@Sign,
Why does it sound like a hacker? Because they used the term ‘mean as ever’?
Its been discussed before that horse people have jargon that sounds ‘rude’ but is, in truth, an affectionate shorthand. A thoroughbred broodmare can be the most loving Momma to her foal and still DEMAND respect from her human handlers, especially if she has a foal at side or is late in her pregnancy.
I take ‘mean as ever’ to indicate that though she is overdue Tasty is acting normal for her and not exhibiting any signs of personality change that could indicate distress with her pregnancy.
Tasty is just exercising her maiden mare right to take her own sweet time putting that foal on the ground.
Max
zenyen: Well said. These mares deserve respect. Tasty will foal when nature dictates and not a second sooner. I am getting used to pacing for Tasty. Practice makes perfect.
The Kennedys in San Diego
It has been reported by Steve Haskin and others that Tasty is very protective of Zenyatta. Some of us are more demanding and protective of our space than others — my guess is that includes Tasty who may have increased those traits in late pregnancy. You have to love her.
Alex Bowdoin, MA
Some Broodmares can get really nasty. Which makes me think of Goldikova who is
NOT very friendly at all in the barn I have heard. Wonder what her personality will be like when she is in foal and with a foal at her side? I do love Goldi, cranky or not! A
true racehorse with a Big heart!
