Hi All,
We had quite a busy weekend! The baby shower at Santa Anita went well despite the weather, which may have kept some of you away. We met so many kind people and definitely felt the Zenyatta love in the air. Thank you for all of your support and interest! Here are some photos for those of you who couldn’t make it.
We understand there is a lot of interest in the “It’s a Boy!” poster from this event. It’s now available for purchase, here, at Zenyatta Shop.
We’ve also been hard at work putting the final touches on the new Forum, so check back soon for updates and some more additions to the store!

Looks like a great time was had by all at The Shower, despite the weather. Thanks to Team Z for all your efforts and your cheerful presence. We’re so spoiled!!!
@Shari V, I’m so sorry to read of the loss of young Trey… I definitely think you are well equipped to help your students — and yourself— to deal with this tragedy. And all the Z-sters are here to lean on whenever you need us.
*****
Tasty will foal when that baby’s ready to come out… I had a mare that went over a YEAR — and she was just a bitty Arabian, it was a big foal but nothing that she was unable to handle naturally. I’m so glad everything went so well for Zenny. Most mares DO foal without incident, and nurture their babies… Zenny is obviously a VERY attentive mother, and as the little guy grows, he will venture out to explore and she will let him go, and keep an eye on him. And when the time does come to wean him, it will be done properly, with minimal stress to both… and believe it or not, they will both come through it just fine.
Having bred horses for more decades than I care to admit, I can assure everyone that the Mosses and the Lane’s End staff have done, are doing, and will do everything with first thought to the welfare of both Zenny and her son… and the odd posters who have wailed to the contrary are probably just ignorant (in the sense of just not knowing) of horses and horse breeding. Zenny is very fortunate to be in the very best of hands…

@Heidi K. the artist in Vallejo— I will be at the dog shows in Vallejo next Sunday— would be great to meet you— I’ll be at the Saluki ring, we have two fawn girls, “Tarantella” and “Sasparilla” …

That would be fabulous! What time does the dog show start and, it’s at the fairgrounds, right? Or, maybe we can meet up afterward? Here’s my email… Let me know.

Dear Patricia:
Love the names of your dogs. Too cute. Good luck at the show. Hugs, JB
Patricia/Far northern CA
Thanks Judy, Tara is already a finished champion, and has nearly finished her “Grand Champion” title. She will be bred on her next heat (probably around June) to a dog who has titles in showing, lure coursing, racing, Obedience, and Canine Good Citizen… should be a nice litter, full of potential! BTW his name is “Wild Acclaim”… we have nicknames for all of them — Tarantella is Tara, Sasparilla is Rilla, and Wild Acclaim is Mocha. And my Solitaire is Sally and Zaynah is Zany (because she is). By the way, Tara loves showing, but Rilla and Mocha do not. But they both are running fools. Along with her other careers Tara is the companion of 3 kids, and sleeps on the bed of the 9 year old girl…

Thanks so much Patricia for sharing your foaling
Expertise. Horses are not humans and their foaling
Patterns are very different.
In fact Zenny did it very instinctually. Everyone was fooled
There would be no foal. While the Mosses were gone
And the LE foaling staff were attending another
Birth, her water broke and she stated to foal while
They were with the other mare. Very tricky of Zenny,
She got herself ready alone and began foaling
With no one present!!!
Patricia/Far northern CA
Most mares prefer to foal alone… I always figured my girls would wait for me to leave and then lie down to pop their babies… and they most always did. Sometimes I could swear they were thinking “GO AWAY!! GO BACK TO THE HOUSE! I HAVE BUSINESS TO TAKE CARE OF!!” Even though as Arabians they were always sweet and people-oriented… though I never had one get angry at me, they’d just wait me out, very politely.
And I had very few that foaled during daylight hours, excepting one (the one who, when she was due any minute would get hand-walks down the lane, and when she saw the other horses would throw her tail over her back, snort, bug her eyes, and piaffe or passage all the rest of her “walk”…), who waited until the second day of a 6-week rainy spell to have her colt— who learned “mudder” not long after he learned “Mother”!! She wanted us to see how hard she was working, I think. [Never mind the exhaustion of the person who either slept in the stall or next to it, or came out to check every two hours for a week beforehand— all the while maintaining a full time day job…]
She was a real character, had 11 foals for me, was a fantastic trail horse, and lived to age 30. Beautiful to the very end.
Wait, I DID have another who foaled in daylight, a daughter of the above mare, who was my especial favorite… she was one who walked into the house one day when I lived in Colorado, she looked around politely, said “so this is YOUR stall?” and then turned around and walked back out again. Up the porch steps and back down them. Nothing bothered her. And I think she wanted me to be there for her foaling. And when her sister died, leaving me with an 8-day-old orphan colt, this sweetie adopted him and raised him. He never had the “orphan foal bad manners”. She lived to 31…

Patricia, Good luck to you, Tarantella and Sasparilla on Sunday!
Patricia/Far northern CA
Thanks Trina — I go showing with a friend, these two are hers or co-owned with the breeder who is a close friend. My friend will show these this time around, but when our puppy is old enough I will do some of the showing. Can’t wait!!

Good luck at your dog show. Anyone coming to the Sunflower Cluster in April?
Patricia/Far northern CA
Only “Sunflower Cluster” I could find is in Kansas, which is a bit far for me, here in far northern California…
Out here in this end of the state we have “Bow Wow Luau” in June and “Woofstock” shortly thereafter… the next cluster I myself will go to will be in late July in Lompoc (north of Santa Barbara) for several shows and sighthound specialties. We take my friend’s motor home and make a week of it, lots of fun and friends and enough dog showing to last for weeks afterward!!!
Pam, have fun and good luck to you!

I wish I could have been there, too. Thanks so much for putting up photos and I’m looking forward to seeing the new Forum.

I know that Z and baby Z are well looked after. Since I couldn’t make it to the shower, i donated $ in TEAM Z’s name to help our local unwed Mom’s charity provide baby clothes and necessities for their human babies. Glad the baby shower was a success!
Susan Carothers (in TN)
The shower was such a good idea! Thank you for the pictures and update. I’ll have to check out the poster :) Definitely wondering about Tasty and her little morsel! I do hope that she and Z will be together after her foal is born.
Zenyen
Unfortunately it is unlikely that they will be able to keep Tasty and Zenyatta together. Z12 will simply be too old to be a safe match for Tasty’s foal.
But Zenyatta is so wonderful at getting along with other horses, she will no doubt make friends with her new paddock mates.
Joanna from TX
So glad the shower worked out OK with the sketchy weather. HRTV folks talked about the goings on at Santa Anita. I sure wish I could have been there for the festivities.
I too am waiting and pacing on news of Tasty’s foaling activity!
Tomorrow is 1sst day of Spring!

Nice to be able to read the posts again. As usual a big thanks to TEAM Z and the amazing job they all do. I to sent my donation to Old Friends in honour of Z and her foal. Hope the weather improves in SoCal for the weekend. Take care all.

Glad that everyone in attendance enjoyed the “shower”. It’s too bad the weather wasn’t favorable. I ordered my poster from the track store and although it said that they would be unsigned perhaps if there were any leftovers…….just hopin!
Thanks Dottie for the update and looking forward to the forum and more news and photos of Z & 12Z.

Dottie looks worn out in this picture. I expect after signing all those posters would definitly take alot of you. Here’s to hoping you’re A-OK today, Dottie.

See Patricia’s post above and be patient.
Not sure why everyone thinks their due date was
March 9, it actually was a range of 8 to 12th; or
Early March. Due dates are not a part of equine
Pregnancy that is human. They have a range and
Fall somewhere within that range.
Patricia mentioned she had a mre that went 365 days;
Small Arabian and healthy foal
Patricia/Far northern CA
She WAS a small Arabian, 13.3 hands!!! Her sire was small. But her foals were taller and by breeding for size as well as conformation I got mares of 14.2 to 14.3 and one of them had a daughter 15.1 which is at the upper end for retaining classic Arabian proportions and structure (STRENGTH and DURABILITY). I bred for endurance racing, cattle work, and trail riding— some of mine went to the show ring and always did well, but they were bred specifically for that and were never the exaggerated [and mostly useless] showring stuff we see now. Actually one of this little mare’s granddaughters is also a registered Trakehner— a purebred Arabian accepted to the Trak studbook for breeding to Traks. Little “Raff” would have been AMAZED.

HI EVERYONE!!! I posted a note on the other site before realizing there was a new posting,so will repeat here so I can remind everyone that today is the day Marlene needs the funds to rescue the seven horses from slaughter. I don’t have the link, but you can find her site on the internet at http://www.valleyviewequinerescue.com and there is a place for making a donation. Maybe we can do some in memory of sweet Trey, who loved horses so. Bet he would be glad to know horses were saved in his honor.
@ Shari V.–So sorry for your tragic loss—what a horrible tragedy!! It must have been so difficult today, comforting all the children when you were grieving yourself.
Glad we have a new page—the last one was getting s—l—o—w!!
@ Tasty–Our prayers are with you, sweet girl–be safe and happy–we have grown to love you so much. I’ll never forget the photo of you sweetly guarding Zenny as she napped–priceless!!

What is a Zenyatta Baby Shower without showers!! I mean reaaaaaly! :o) All I needed was a little hair conditioner! :-)))))
The excitement of driving our freeways and streets without hydroplaning got my adrenaline going before I got there!! LOL
Uncle John Henry ♥ greeted YOUR guests with the green fountain as a backdrop – TOO CUTE! He shouted out: “I can’t wait for Zenny to show up! She’s going to LOVE St. Patty’s next year with the green fountain!”
I would go the ends of the earth for you, Zenny! Seeing the smiling faces of Team Zenyatta and getting your Baby Poster was MY Pot of Gold at the end of a Rainbow! John’s face was beaming! Dottie was her usual CUTE self! Mikey was adorable, as usual! I missed your Mommy & Daddy, Ann and Jerry, but things happen.
Your lifesize portrait is ♥ UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE ♥ I hear “rumors” it may not be here for the Breeders’ Cup! :-( I’m hoping it will come back…

They almost took the life size Z out on Saturday as the wind was blowing so hard even inside – it almost blew over…. I would hate for anything to happen to it. Better safe than sorry…. It’s so wonderful. Mike got there about an hour before the signing he took some photos with fans and posed with the painting…. that was cool.

Ah! And there is the great Dottie Ingordo. We miss you Dottie but good to see you in these pictures. Our stalwart representative, JAG was there to represent all of us who couldn’t make it to Zenyatta’s Baby Shower. I guess the rain showers lightened the attendance too.
Nevertheless, I have already purchased my copy of the poster from the Santa Anita Gift Shop.

CALLING ALL Z’ISTERS,
TODAY IS THE OFFICIAL END OF THE ATTEMPT TO SAVE 7 HORSES FROM A NEVADA FEED LOT BEFORE THEY MAKE THEIR FINAL TRIP TO A CANADIAN SLAUGHTERHOUSE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE EFFORT IS STILL MORE THAN $2,500 SHORT. EXCEPT FOR THE BAD WEATHER, MARLENE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A “SOPHIE’S CHOICE” ON WHICH HORSES TO SAVE AND WHICH ONES TO LEAVE FOR SLAUGHTER. FORTUNATELY, THE TRUCK WILL BE ONE OR TWO DAYS LATE DUE TO THE WEATHER AND WE STILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE TIME TO HELP MARLENE. PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN TO SAVE THESE LOVELY HORSES. SIX ARE VERY GENTLE AND WELL TRAINED. THE SEVENTH IS ONLY A YEARLING AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS/HER LIFE. PLEASE GO TO http://www.valleyviewranchequinerescue.webs.com AND DO WHAT YOU CAN TO HELP MARLENE SAVE THESE DEAR SOULS. MARLENE HAS A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN DESIGNATE YOUR GIFT IN HONOR OR MEMORY OF SOMEONE. THIS IS A WONDERFUL WAY TO HONOR ZENYATTA AND HER LITTLE PRINCE OR ANOTHER FAVORITE HORSE YOU MAY HAVE. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH,

Hi all I am glad everything went well at Z’s shower. I do have to confess I am still suffering from DIARY WITHDRAWAL!! I am glad we do have news and the photos are nice. I could use a new job if LE and the Moss’s want to hire a new person to work on the Diary. No other person could ever take Dottie’s place as the voice of Z. I was thinking I could be the voice on baby ZB 12. Like “Mom did you know that you are a rock star”? All the other kids are telling me about your terrific racing record and did you know Mom you have over 102,000 FB fans and still growing. Wow PQ/Q and T/C when ever he comes out will be great playmates and life long pals of mine Mom. It needs work but I could do it. I only need about 35K a year and a place at LE to live. Let me know if you are interested I will be here. Love you big Momma you are the best goodnight little prince.

Dear Deborah,
Did you see the post below about her “being
Mean as ever”. I bet overdue mares are quite a
Challenge to keep happy. Those of you who
Have had over due human children, multiply that by
Ten as Tasty does not have the luxury of laying
On the couch eating Bon Bons. She has to go out
And exercise in her paddock, which I am sure is not
Fun, she also would like to lay down, but I am
Sure not very comfortable. She is good just a little
Cranky. Those of you who have never owned a mare,
They are definately moody and PMSey !!!! It is not
Fun.

Glad to hear everyone had a great time at the shower! I have a new favorite for Z to be bred to but I would have to check the breeding. It is Lookin at Lucky he is perfect size and great pedigree plus he is super handsome.

Unfortunately Looking at Lucky and Zenyatta come up an “F” rating under True Nicks.
But he is a very nicely bred colt and I am sure there are a lot of compatible mares who will help him making a name for himself as a stallion.

The easter yearling sales are looming here in Australia and there is much anticipation over a certain colt whose dam is Tugela(dam of Makybe Diva) and whose sire is Street Cry.
