Dear Zenyatta,
Did you hear how many times you were mentioned in the coverage of the Dubai World Cup today? I love that you are still being mentioned among the greats several years after your retirement.
I think my favorite mention of your name was when your Mike said that he stayed cool & calm in the race after he remembered his rides on you & how you could win after bad breaks. I think you helped Mike & Arrogate win because of Mike’s experience of riding you.
You’re a great jockey trainer, Z!

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I love Mikey and I love how he loves horses. There’s a true bond between him and Arrogate.
I was trying to listen to what Mikey was calling Arrogate when he first entered the quarantine shed row. Was he calling him “Earl”? Did anybody get that? Maybe that’s his nickname for Big A? Love and Hugs, JB
Mike was calling to him as “Arro.” I got the impression that before Mike arrived Arro was looking out of his window and plotting his escape from quarantine.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thanks. I couldn’t make out what Mike was saying.
Yes, he probably was; after all, the boy deserves no less than VIP accommodations at Juddmonte. Love and Hugs, JB
Zenyatta I know you could have won that race. Because no matter what you ever encountered you got up. Heart of a champion! Mike guided Arro to victory because of what you taught him. You could tell he remembered 2010. Happily the outcome was different for him. But everyone knows that one more jump and that Breeder’s Cup was yours!
To be convinced that we are not alone in whatever place or situation we find ourselves is to have wisdom-exceptional wisdom. But when that wisdom is there and nothing can shake it, a need to share is strong. Everybody doesn’t have the gift because everyone doesn’t want it. Some can’t even believe that anyone else has it. So, we should never try to convince them. If we are convinced, then, that is sufficient evidence, and other things will add to it as we go along. The Great Spirit speaks to us in sweet languages, so unique we cannot miss the import of what is said. To receive such a gift can change a situation from deep fear to one of total contentment and love.

Dear Marshall.I thought you might be interested to know Jack Hobbs was a famous cricketer of the 20th century.Said by critics to be the world’s greatest batsman he was known as the ‘Master’.Born into abject poverty in 1882 and one of 12children he excelled at sports. He was married to the love of his life Ada for 56yrs and nursed her at the end.He died a few months after her in 1963.He was knighted in 1953 and at first refused the honour but was persuaded to take it for all cricketers.Unlike sportsmen of these days he was a very modest man David Beckham take note!Hope you are having a lovely weekend.Hugs and Love
Thank you for the information on cricketer, Jack Hobbs. I didn’t know about him, but he seems very deserving of the honor bestowed upon him in 1953. One of 12 children, Wow!
He would be a wonderful role model for anyone, especially in these times.
My grandfather took care of my grandmother, too. They were married for 61 years, and he died two months after she did. He was devoted to her indeed.
Have been following this wonderful mare for years and will continue to follow.
I was very sorry for the family when they had the misfortune of loosing two beautiful foals. Little ZPrincess was my fave. For my lifetime I raised Arabians. I now judge shows of all breeds. I guess I just love horses.

but I have watched the video many times! Brought me to tears when Mike said he “rode her like he rode Zenyatta”!! What a stride that boy has. Is his pedigree good to breed with Zenyatta? What a match that would be. Phew.
Off to chill the champagne!!!
Exciting news about your little vizsla girl! Big congratulations to her and you on winning the five point major and on getting reserve, too. Well done!

When we were born, we could not walk or talk or even focus our eyes. But the ability to do all these things and more was born in us. By continual effort, we still grow and learn and develop our identities. We learned early that we were not a bird and not an animal. And this is where personality begins to question-then, what am I? Who am I? Why am I here? Is this an identity crisis? No, it is a belief crisis. Every person has a hard time believing he has a specific reason for being here. Some have such a hard time believing that they go out and demand what others have. They see themselves outside the circle-not believing their own words and beliefs put them where they are. “Until very recently (approximately 2000), horses who raced exclusively in America were never given Timeform ratings, so they can not be compared directly to their European counterparts.” Wikipedia
But, I found a very interesting Discussion area that you might like to read.
Has fractions from some of Secretariat’s races
Secretariat’s Preakness Time Officially Changed
Discussion in ‘Odds & Ends’ started by hollywood9826, Jun 20, 2012.
Frankel now rated greatest of all time by Timeform with a rating of 147 (Secretariat was already rated second highest anyway by Timeform on 144 behind Sea Bird II at 145).
Keta Note: I can not find the Secretariat rating referenced here. https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/secretariats-preakness-time-officially-changed.428832/
Max
I don’t buy into that rationale about America. It is ridiculous that Secretariat is rated below Frankel, a horse who raced only on turf and never competed outside of England. Secretariat is a TC winner who raced and set records on dirt and turf at all Classic distances and competed outside of the US. That Belmont win is still awesome and unlikely to be repeated. His stud record confirms that you cannot reproduce perfection. Zenyatta may have the same issue.
Would love to be part of that horsey conversation on the flight home. Love the Biscuit and hard charging Gun Runner and the great Arrogate. Happy though to know CC still maintains the track record at Dubai I read that somewhere in all the various reports. If I’m incorrect please let me know.
Max, I am not as educated as many of you , but CC seemed to be an older horse at the time of his racing and still ran so awesomely in his races as well as in the Dubai for the second time. Am I right?
hugs, Sally B
judy berube
Dear Sally:
Chromie is six years old, Arrogate is four years old, Gun Runner is also four, Mind Your Biscuits is four, Keen Ice is five. So yes, you’re correct. Prayer for Relief, who ran in the Pegasus with Chromie and Arrogate, is nine years old. He finished 10th in the field of 12. Thankfully, he has been safely retired.
Hope Fancy and Jo are doing well. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Chrome is 6 but that is not old in horse years. At 6, Chrome is in his prime. They retired him because there was nothing left for him to do. He may have not run so well in the Pegasus, but his career racing stats are super impressive. He now deserves a long retirement.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max and Sally:
True Max; most horses of Chrome’s talent are retired young and rushed to stud duty. Glad Chome raced into his sixth year. Hope he stays safe and sound and has a chance to just enjoy life. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Agree. All of those critical comments about his alleged weak pedigree actually worked in the fans’ favor. Chrome raced longer than his 3rd year. These days only the geldings stay around longer than 3. Because cash isn’t an issue for Juddmonte, and Arro is lightly raced, he may stay until year 5 and another Pegasus. Sure hope so.
judy berube
Dear Max:
I hope Arro races into his fifth year too. Hopefully, as you said Juddmonte won’t cave to $$$$ to be made with interest in breeding to him. Just want him to stay safe and sound.
Couldn’t help thinking about your take on the broadcaster’s comment the other day that BB owns the world and we just live in it. As you said; rings true, now more than ever. Talk about hitting the jackpot; American Pharoah and Arro! Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
JB, BB certainly has been blessed. Both horses seem to have pretty cool personalities, too.
The March 25th edition of the Bloodhorse just came. Great pictures and articles about Man o’ War whose 100th birthday is the 29th. Some really good reading. In his picture on the front cover with his groom Will Harbut, Man o’ War truly has the look of eagles! Proud and beautiful head.
Dear Judy, This color portrait is just beautiful. He was the man.
Thank You so much for this.
I stood at the foot of his grave for a long time at the horse park. Just a magical place
There is also a tribute to Big Red by Barbara Livingston at DRF. I must admit, and I don’t mind a bit, that I had to collect myself and dry my eyes before I could post this. I’m sure all of you will love it as much as I did.
Judy,
Thank you. I did see the statue at Faraway Farm many years ago. So glad the farm has been restored to former glory and the gravestones have been taken care of.
What can we who never saw him say. Just that his name is still revered and he is not forgotten. I know his ghost still runs through the Blue Grass paddocks and pastures and looks down on his many visitors at the Horse Park.
Dear Shirlee, when I visited his grave at the Horse Park, It had been a rain storm that day. And, when I stopped at Red’s Grave last, (knew I wanted to spend some time there) It was such an eerie but wonderful visit. It was windy and cloudy and you could seem like feel his presence there. It was a beautiful experience. There were a number of people there for a while like I was. We were just in awe. I want to go back.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee and Peggy:
How wonderful that you got to visit Red’s grave. Special place. Love and Hugs, JB
Such kind words today for Zenyatta by Bob Baffert and Mike Smith during their press conference (can see on you tube) about Arrogate winning Dubai world cup. Seems her name will always be linked with horse racing greatness. As well it should be.
I’m sure Mike learned a lot more from Zenyatta than she ever learned from him! LOL Dead last, calm down, relax, settle in, get into stride, swing to the outside, WIN. “Remember Mikey, I have the heart, just hang on!” I know Mike has always given Zenny her due…and I know Baffert respects her as one of the greatest ever.
What is going on at Palm Meadows? First Classic Empire and now Tepin have refused to work there. Both are Mark Casse horses. He thinks Tepin will be very happy to get back to Kentucky.
There was an interesting comment on the Bloodhorse article about these two.
One poster commented with, tell a gelding, discuss with a stallion and ask a mare. Thought that was so classic and true.
Ahhh, sweet girl, Tepin, love her.
Dear Judy:I heard about Tepin refusing to work but Mark said she returned to the barn happy and well.Acapulco is making a return visit to RA this year and Aidan has reported Churchill heads straight for the Guineas.Solow looks to be making his return too he is back in training with Freddy Head.Hope all goes well with him.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Max
Two chestnuts and a gray on the long flight home.
You’re right. Chrome holds the track record on dirt.

Max, I am not as educated as many of you , but CC seemed to be an older horse at the time of his racing and still ran so awesomely in his races as well as in the Dubai for the second time. Am I right?

JB, BB certainly has been blessed. Both horses seem to have pretty cool personalities, too.

Dear Ann:
Yes, lucked out there too! Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Shirlee:
He was magnificent, as this rare color photo of Big Red and WH shows. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Donna:
Thank you so much for posting this info. Here it is; tissues needed, indeed. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy,

Dear Shirlee, Thank You so much for reminding us of Red’s Birthday.
Peggy (N) South Georgia

Alice, I agree!!

Dear Shirlee and Sheena:
That is strange, isn’t it. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Shirlee, I am wondering too what is going on down there.
Ann NC
There was an interesting comment on the Bloodhorse article about these two.
One poster commented with, tell a gelding, discuss with a stallion and ask a mare. Thought that was so classic and true.
Ahhh, sweet girl, Tepin, love her.

Dear Ann:
That sounds spot on! Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Zenny and Baby Bump,
Be safe during the storms tonight. Stay safe, warm and dry in your barn.

I am completely out of the loop. When is Zenyatta due to foal?
