Observations on Ziconic during race
1. At the end of the replay video, there is an overhead of the starting gate.
Ziconic was a little slow coming out.
2. During the race, I thought Ziconic was distracted when he tossed his head.
Looking a the replay, I noticed he did this when Victor used the whip.
Victor did not just hit him once to wake him up but several times.
3. That maybe why Ziconic was looking “testy” during the gallop out.
He wanted a moment of payback-a nice buck would do.
4. Ziconic last quarter was phenomenal, Have to check the stats.
But he was moving and covering a lot of ground fast.
5. My opinion-I don’t think Victor is the jockey for this horse.
6. Mike Smith who is so used to Zenyatta come from behind style would be.
I have faith in Ziconic Blue
I agree. Ziconic seems to resist when asked with a whip. Gary Stevens used his voice and his hands and the colt never balked at him. Whereas Victor, I thought too, he just might dump him and the turning back on the stretch is Ziconic’s way of saying “back off dude” which completely gets Ziconic off stride. And with Mike, he seemed from the get go, to resist and question every thought and action. I don’t know, but I would put my money on the Gary Stevens/Ziconic relationship as a win/win. Gary seems to use the whip as what it is meant to be an exclamation point when a spurt is required.
Zi and Victor were really having a grand conversation there in the gallop out. I give credit to Victor in that he taught Zi to keep his head in the game and mission accomplished. Looks like Zi was eager for more and it will be exciting to watch his next go round! Good boy, Zi. You put on your game face; wear it next time. Love you ?. Zenny, praying for you!???

Judy,
As you know, I share your feelings about shuttling. I know it is not always up to Claiborne since they do not own all the horses they stand. But, as you said, I don’t think it happens very often with the stallions they stand.
For some reason, people who aren’t too knowledgeable about this end of the business blamed Claiborne for Ferdinand being sold to Japan. As you all here on the blog are aware, they did not own him thus could not keep him from being sold.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Ferdinand’s sad end clearly was not the fault of Claiborne, but it was his brutal death that resulted in clauses now being included in some overseas sales agreements that when a US horse’s racing or stud career is over, he/she will be returned to the USA. Not all sales are completed this way, but I hope more and more will be in the future.
Thanks to the assistance of Michael Blowen at Old Friends, a number of horses; Charismatic (poor baby didn’t get to enjoy his life there), War Emblem, Silver Charm were brought back to the USA. Hoping the same for Animal Kingdom, I’ll Have Another and so many more. Love and Hugs, JB

He makes a nice companion for Za Approval. Beautiful chestnut pal of a handsome almost-white ZA — nice contrast!

Everything in the world cannot be judged by one mistake. When we have fallen short or someone seems to have failed us, we can leave it there where it happened. There is no use in stirring old trouble into every new thing we do. There are things that seem to break our hearts; pain that goes on and on. But we can work through. If we are strong and don’t let our hands grow weak and slack, our work will be rewarded. We grieve for the loss of things, or persons, ache for what we cannot do, but there is a day when the sun finally shines. We can make it. Time heals more quickly when we decide to let it. It is written that any man can make a mistake, but none but a fool will continue in it. This is a new day; live it fully.

We may need to take our pacing shoes off for a while. Auntie Judy, who was at Santa Anita on Sunday, reports from a “reliable source” that Zenny is not due until mid-MAY!
Wow, that’s a long time if she was bred on May 2, 2016 as they reported. Generally mares can foal from 320-362 days and they can deliver sometimes over a year, but most foal from 330-345 days. We shall see. I’m ready to start pacing already!
There was never any confirmation that the May breeding took. There could have been a later second trip to see MdO, which may account for the possibility of a foaling in May. Zenyatta knows but she’s not talking. We will just have to wait and see. Northern Dancer was born in late May.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Donna, Max and Z Fans:
Agree; seems there had to be a second cover, which would account for the May due date. As you said Max, Z’s not telling. Safe and healthy foaling for Mama and Baby.

JUST IN: UK police on London incident: “We know there are a number of casualties, including police officers.” http://abcn.ws/2ndfYK0
4 people have died as a result of a terrorist attack at the heart of Westminster including the police officer who was stabbed in the course of his duty.Officer’s deaths are mercifully rare in Great Britain. The Prime Minister Theresa May has spoken to President Donald Trump. It was the 1st anniversary of the attacks in Belgium.A very sad day RIP the innocent victims. My thoughts are with them.
Sheena,
So distressed to hear about this attack in London. Peace to all the family members of the slain and comfort and healing to those who are wounded. It seems our world just gets crazier every day.
Dear Shirlee,BGG and Judy.Thank you for your kind thoughts at this sad time. The police officer has been named as Keith Palmer a 48yr old father and he was unarmed.5 are now dead.May God bless them.Love and hugs.
I have to say; when Charles talked about Shared Belief and I saw him pulling away from the pack in the race video, I just began to cry. I never knew his nickname before seeing this video either. Still miss that feisty, beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy.A distressing day for the UK.It was bound to happen sometime given the terror attacks in Europe. The policeman by the gate was so courageous to tackle the terrorist but all will be back in the mother of parliaments tomorrow.
On a lighter note it was great to see Maya and 33(11) back and both eating some beautiful trout.I hope Willow is doing well and I will keep in her in my prayers.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

No need to be sorry; just gives the Aunties (and Uncles) a better idea of when to start pacing. Love and Hugs, JB
Donna Alsabrook
Wow, that’s a long time if she was bred on May 2, 2016 as they reported. Generally mares can foal from 320-362 days and they can deliver sometimes over a year, but most foal from 330-345 days. We shall see. I’m ready to start pacing already!
Max
There was never any confirmation that the May breeding took. There could have been a later second trip to see MdO, which may account for the possibility of a foaling in May. Zenyatta knows but she’s not talking. We will just have to wait and see. Northern Dancer was born in late May.

Dear Donna, Max and Z Fans:
Agree; seems there had to be a second cover, which would account for the May due date. As you said Max, Z’s not telling. Safe and healthy foaling for Mama and Baby.
Mucho Macho Man was born on June 15, 2008 and he was quite a Warrior as a three year old. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max:
Thanks for this wonderful video.
I have to say; when Charles talked about Shared Belief and I saw him pulling away from the pack in the race video, I just began to cry. I never knew his nickname before seeing this video either. Still miss that feisty, beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Very nice and informative video (and it’s always great to see Charles ♥♥). Had no idea that Shared Belief was a Lane’s End foal.
