Your baby boy had a great race. Thank you for this St Paddys day video of our beautiful Zenyatta. Hoping we hear wonderful news when you foal. Always appreciate the kindness shown by Lane’s End to her legions of adoring fans.
YAY!!!!! Ziconic may have at last become a real racehorse. Wow what a race. A bit short perhaps, but certainly reminiscent of his Mom. I wonder if she ever taught him her dance steps. Who knows, maybe the upcoming little one may learn them. Warm up your pacing shoes, I may be wrong but somewhere I heard little ones can be something like two weeks early or two weeks late. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Zenny gave herself another little one on her birthday. May everyone sleep beautifully tonight!
Dear Judy;Yes,a great run from Zi think turf suits him and he reminded me so much of his mum.Sizing John has had a great welcome home even the short guy was there!Lady Frankel won today at Saint-Cloud very gutsy filly.Summer had a lovely birthday where have 3 yrs gone?New pics of Hovey up tonight looking good.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
This is actually good advice for turf racing. Zenyatta was a dirt racer and the come from behind style worked for her on dirt because she had the innate size, power and judgment (horse sense) to pick off her competitors. To win on turf, a horse usually needs to be on the pace and close to the lead like Wise Dan. In this race, Ziconic was no where close to the winner even in the closing stages. Hoping that he gets to race again soon, maybe with another jockey. Change sometimes helps. Willie Mullins turned things around for Nichols Canyon by switching him to a new stable with more activity and changing his exercise rider to a young woman. You never know.
Zenyatta ran most of her races on synthetic tracks, and those horses can run just as good on turf. It sure seemed to me that Zi loved the turf, ears pricked and ready to go. Wish that Victor had given him the “GO” sign a little sooner, he was closing so fast, might could have won. Victor is not a turf jockey, maybe John could get Pratt next time for Zi on the turf.
Max
Zenyatta was mostly on synthetic, but she was trained as a dirt racer. She never ran on the turf. So far Zi has raced about the same on both surfaces. Maybe next time?
Dear Judy, Was going to tell ya. I am a little worried. Just wonder what mount will Javier take in the Kentucky Derby? I know he is very fond of Gunnevera, but what a nice boy Malagacy is. Wow, what a hard decision. Kind of feel sorry for Gunn’s trainer. I know he isn’t well known here, but I do like and respect him a lot. I do wish Javier would stick with Gunn. But, I know it will be his decision and a hard one for him.
Yesterday on TVG, the guy on air said that they supposed Javier would go with the Pletcher trainee. And, another comment they made about Bob Baffert was that this was his world and we’re just living in it. Hurt the heart a little. I would like to see some newcomers do good.
Will be optimistic that the best horse wins. “But” go Gunnevera. (will Keep Hoping)
Safety good wishes to all.
It’s happened before with Smarty Jones. His trainer, John Servis wasn’t exactly a household name and the same with Mine That Bird and Chip Woolley. You never know.
Yes, it’s true; Javier will have to make a tough decision if they both stay on the Trail and I sure hope they do. I truly believe, if Javier has to make a choice, he will go with the horse he feels can win. We’ll have to see how the remaining Preps develop. Godspeed; safe and sound to all. Love and Hugs, JB
You’re right. A horse runs those races, not the trainer.
As to Baffert, I heard that comment and it made me laugh. It’s kind of true.

Thanks for posting the replay of Race 4. Ziconic did very well — he made a big move to finish in second.
Congratulations to Zi and Zenyatta’s great Team Z.
BGG,
Thanks for the post of the video of the race. It looked as if Ziconic got a bit testy with Victor during the gallop out. Think he did not want to pull up. More distance perhaps?
Ziconic scares me with both Victor and Mike. He always seems to be “arguing” with them from the moment they ask him to move. But with Jerry Bailey, he seemed to respond with no questions or disagreement. They seemed to flow and connect, Whereas, Ziconic appears to challenge both Victor and Mike. Not good to watch, even more so that pulling up on the gallop out. Or as us humans term, “No Chemistry there, lol.”
Mary M
I must be in a time warp or the twilight zone . . . . . My apologies, Gary Stevens, I would never mistake you for Jerry Bailey, watching too many old races, lol. I mean Ziconic seemed to connect with Gary Stevens. As soon as Gary asked, he ran, and never appeared to have his head in the clouds or challenge the request. Whereas, I question Ziconic’s respect for Mike or Victor.
Thanks for sharing this article, Judy B.
Rapper Dragon certainly is a very handsome Chestnut!
Big Congratulations to him and all connections (including Street Boss) on becoming the first to sweep the Hong Kong Classic series.
I have to agree that I think blinkers would do the trick with Ziconic. He was looking around during the post parade, looking around while loading, and almost sideways coming down the stretch; it’s hard to win doing that. The fact that he came in second shows his talent, and grass was a good choice. If blinkers were added, I bet he will break his maiden. He is a smart horse, but needs to keep his mind on racing. I think once he gets a taste of the winners circle, they won’t be able to keep him out of it, and he will finally settle down to business, because he has the talent, it’s just that his intelligence and curiosity get in the way. I too, hope to hear what John and the others think about his performance on grass.
Someone said the test of courage is not to give up but to rise up and take dominion over melancholy moods. Writing it to ourselves can bring out many causes for sadness or anger that we didn’t know we were harboring. A daily journal has been the source of help in learning what we store away unconsciously, only to come out and whip us at the most unlikely times. It is a way of cleaning house and making corrections in the privacy of our own minds without having to tell the world.
Do not hurt your neighbor, for it is not him you wrong but yourself.

Wishing a very happy 100th birthday to Dame Vera Lynn! Ah, lovely voice indeed.
1917 was a very good year as I have said before — my mother would have been 100 in September and also, JFK was a 1917 baby, just to mention two more who entered the world that year.
I adore the music of those years leading into and during WWII — truly beautiful classics unlike any other period.
A happy postscript to the festival.Edwulf who collapsed and spent an hour on the ground is flying home to Ireland today. The horse who cheated death was treated by a team of veterinarians and the fire and rescue.JP Mcmanus and young Joe cannot thank them enough for their care.He got up rather wobbly after 60 minutes on the ground and by the next morning despite some problems with his eyesight was cavorting in the paddock.Well done to all who cared for him at Cheltenham You’re the best!

So proud of our special guy, Ziconic!!! I thought Gary Stevens did such a good job when he rode Zi that I keep wishing they would give him another try. But most of all, just so glad he really got in there and poured on the steam. Zenny, you would be so proud of your big boy.
@ Donna H–Wow !! My sentiments exactly !! My dream is to see Gary back up on Zi again. Just LOVE that Zi Boy–I firmly believe he is going to go down in history as one of the greats !! He just has to do it his way. He is simply amazing !!!
Have just loved all of the great Zenny photos–what a gal !!
WE just found out that the lovely lady who owns the gorgeous property in East Fork, where Barnaby and Traveller have spent their last five summers, is putting her place up for sale. (Oh, this would be a great time to win the lottery!). Luckily, the folks at River Sage have welcomed us as full-time boarders with open arms. We’re blessed that we will be able to stay there permanently, and, that the horses DO love it there as well. We will surely miss her lovely place and I know the horses will too. We have not told them yet that they are not going back. Maybe they will just keep in to the routine they are now following at the farm and not mind too much. I surely hope that will be the case.
They are both doing really well right now, with Traveller improving all of the time. Boss Mare Sue bought Barnaby two really great gifts– a set of lovely ,very special bell boots for his front feet, and then, lovely black leather brush boots for his lower front legs, fully lined with real sheepskin and with velcro closures, as have the bell boots. He looks like he’s going eventing when he has them on. He really seems to like them and seems to be more focused than usual when he is all decked out ! He seems to love getting gifts and having special things that require more attention . He LOVES attention. When I am helping Sue do something with Traveller, he always lets me know when he thinks I have done enough and that it is time for me to ,once again, focus on HIM !!
Always good to hear from you. Sorry that the summer quarters will not be available for Traveller and Barnaby, but glad that they are very happy at River Sage.
I bet Barnaby looks very dapper in his new attire! Love hearing about him and his wonderful personality. I am so happy that Traveller is continuing to improve, too.
Hi Sue
So nice to read your post, and great to hear Traveller and Barnaby are doing well. It sounds like you definitely have 2 very spoiled horses. I would love to see a photo of Barnaby all dressed up.
Too bad to hear about the property, but from the way it sounds to me, as long as Traveller and Barnaby know that you are around and nearby–they are happy.
I agree Donna, 100%! Ziconic definitely seemed to properly respond to Gary Stevens. As soon as Gary asked, Ziconic gave. Whereas with both Mike and Victor, Ziconic seems to balk and question and resist them both.
Hi Zenny
I heard about the fantastic news that happened over the weekend with Zi winning 2nd place. Way to go, Zi!!! I know you are one proud Mama–beaming from ear to ear.
Congratulations to Zi and all his connections.

Had such a wonderful Laughing moment today. Needed it for Monday. Went into Blood horse and saw one of my favorite trainers. Mark Casse. And, I might just have another favorite horse in Classic Empire.
Just Too Funny, Mark was telling about yesterday and that they carried Classic Empire out to Breeze in South Florida. Think it was one of the Gulf Stream Tracks. Well CEmpire would “Not” Breeze. Would not go at all for the exercise rider. They couldn’t figure it out.
They loaded him on the Van and left for Ocala Got him back to Ocala to the training center and today He went out and Breezed, nothing wrong. They wished they could have asked him what was wrong at Gulfstream. Mark said he just didn’t think he liked it down there. Think he loved Ocala
Classic Empire, I’m with ya. I love Ocala too. But, beautiful boy, hear they are off to Keeneland with you before long. Stay Safe and God Speed.
