Other people have so much happen in their lives before we get to know them that we don’t always know how to meet their needs. If they have been hurt they may box themselves in and our reach is not long enough. But we cannot go back and make up for what someone else has done. All of us have come to the present with some memory, some experience, that has affected us negatively. It would be hard to live in a world of hurt and not be touched by it. But the Cherokee knows that change can take place suddenly to heal life. A Seneca chief had been sick a long time, but he was visited in his dreams by three supernatural beings sent by the Great Spirit, and rose up cured to teach the good message given him by the Master of Life. His people thrived and flourished and developed gifts. So can we. When we seek we find. And it may be by helping others.
We were a lawless people, but we were on pretty good terms with the Great Spirit.

Belated Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all. Just got back from a week or so in Florida. Had a great time in Tampa visiting with our Sue R and attending the Tampa Bay Derby where we got to see Tapwrit put on a great show. Also got to see Stanford win a race which was nice considering the number of times I’ve bet on him in the past.
We also went to Ocala to visit Live Oak Stud where Za Approval (a gelding) makes his home. The people there were SO nice to us, and the broodmare manager, Juan, promised to send me Za’s foal tag if he could find it!! We took some Mrs. Pasture’s Cookies which Za had never had before. After a couple of false starts, he decided that they were wonderful :-) We also saw his mother, Win Approval, and his older brother, Revved Up. His younger brother, World Approval, won two awards at the Florida awards event on Monday night. All of them are beautiful gray – almost white – horses.
Sue drove me part of the way to meet up with my sister and brother-in-law and we spent the next several days shivering in the coldest weather they had had all winter. I know, I know – it wasn’t like the snow that lots of people dealt with, but you don’t go to Florida for 45 degree weather at the beach!! The day before I left, it was 36 when we got up! We went to this great place where you make your own pancakes and eggs on grills built right into the tables. It was “bike week” and the place was packed, but the only heat was a fireplace in ONE of the rooms (not the one we were in). All in all, it was an “interesting” trip. I’ll never catch up here – hope all is well with all of you.
Many thanks to Team Z for the great video of our Queen. It won’t be long now (will it?).
Sorry that Royal Mo didn’t finish a little better today. Each week seems to bring a new “star” as previous ones fade a bit. This is a very murky Derby picture.
Welcome back. Wow, those are cold temps for FL. It’s good that you made the most of the trip though. Za Approval sounds like a sweet boy. What a fun idea for a restaurant. Love and Hugs, JB
Glad to have you back! Sounds as though you had a wonderful trip despite the decidedly “un-Florida” temperatures. What fun to visit with Za Approval and see his other relatives — Wow, almost white horses — that must have been quite an experience.
Exciting that you were at the Tampa Bay Derby, too, and got to see Tapwrit run and win. Also, how great that you got to see Stanford win his race!
If it is 60° in Florida, it is cold so 45° must have felt like freezing and 36° really must have been frigid! Those temps would have been no big thing at home, but oddly in the Sunshine State, they seem very icy.
Hugs and Love
P.S. I am sure Za Approval appreciates that you are his good true friend who brings Mrs. Pasture’s Cookies. Yum!
Today(19th)would have been our beloved Kauto Star’s 17th birthday.I prefer to remember his racing career rather than his later days. His 16 grade1’s, his triple crown in 2006/7, his Gold cups and more importantly his final 2 races when after being written off he won his 4th Betfair and 5th King George.I will remember those races until the day I die.He should still be with us today growing old gracefully. He was denied a gentle old age.We will always love and miss you CariadX

Last autumn’s leaves have been dislodged from their wintering places to race north with the wind from the south-only to be turned and blown south again. They drift and dance on end, twirling and falling into deep piles to disintegrate in spring rains. Drifting with the wind is not a habit of nature alone. People with no goals, no aims, drift from one place to another in hopes that fate will put them in the right place at the right time. Fate is simply accepting what comes because nothing has been done to direct thought and action in any other way. If decisions are not made and goals are not set, the world will make them for us. The Cherokee calls this attitude go na ya, which translates to the same thing as “doing without.”
The problem with blending the Indian and European cultures is that the Indian is devoted to living and the European to getting.

Judy,
Thank you. Looked like when he finally decided to run he closed well. And, the horse that beat him was a Kitten’s Joy running on the turf!
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
That says a lot considering this was ZI’s fifth start; first time on turf. The Kitten’s Joy, Conquest Sabre Cat, started 10 times, most of those on the turf I think, and he broke his Maiden today. Maybe ZI has found the surface he favors and will win his Maiden race soon. Also, I don’t think he like the whip at all; it seemed to me he closed well after Victor put the whip away. What did you think?
Thanks for the link for the replay of Ziconic’s race. I started reading the posts on the next page so I saw BGG’s post of the replay before I got to this page.
Yes, Ziconic is inarguably a gorgeous Chestnut, and he definitely ran a good race on the turf today. He covered a lot of ground to finish a solid second!
