Happy Wednesday!
Zenyatta and 13Z are settling into their summer routine. As you can see, Zenyatta spends her days grazing and rolling in the grass. Her colt is acclimating well to his new paddock mate. The boys can’t resist a nip & tug of the halter.
Also, at the end of this post, see a short clip Alys took of Zenyatta and her colt a few days after the birth.
Check back later in the week for updates to the Video and Photo sections along with new print additions to the Zenyatta Shop.
Enjoy!

Pati-11 days to graduation
When you look at his mannerisms and how he carries himself, you can see the family resemblance. He’s a gorgeous horse. I hope that I’ll be in NY (and so is he) so that I can get a picture of him. I have my graduation party June 15th, but I want to move in to my college early. I hope I can get out to whatever track he’s racing at and get some pictures. Handsome handsome horse. I can’t wait to see Z13 and Coz as grown-ups. I bet they’ll be gorgeous too because it runs in the family to be gorgeous. LOL
AmandaF
He’ll be racing at Churchill Downs on June 15th but I’m not sure where he is stabled at. He was moved from Todd Pletcher to Bill Mott.
Pati-10 days to graduation
Hmm, I’ll poke around. Either way, I hope he makes a trip to NY. I would love to see him in person.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
He is ONE gorgeous horse for sure. I believe I read he will run at Churchill along with Royal Delta.

Yep, we’d know those ears anywhere. She’s a beauty!

Does that tell us that the ears come from Vertigineux’s side of the family? :)

I love this site and hope it will continue throughout the years. I do have a question … how old are the horses when they get their tats? Does this hurt awfully much and does it cause them to become headshy for awhile? Where on their lips are the tats located? How long/large are they? Thank you.

Happy Birthday, John Shirreffs. Hope you have many many more.
Robin LOVES Zenyatta
We can’t thank you enough for these wonderful pictures and video of our Z family!! I love how 13Z has to stretch like crazy to get his head near the yummy grass! And our Queen is showing him what fun it is to roll. How adorable. HIGH HOOF to Alys and all of the crew at LE for taking such good care of our precious ones.
Abigail_1849
Happy Birthday, John. You are THE BEST and I wish you a year of love, joy and success, as well as the best of health.
I also wanted to post this footage of the wonder-full St. Nicholas Abbey winning his third straight Coronation Cup — the only horse to accomplish this since the race began. I was really delighted for young Joseph O’Brien & a horse he has unflinchingly believed in right from the beginning of his career. I love this colt from his 2 year-old season on, even though his 3 year-old campaign was disappointing. It says a lot for keeping our babies in training until they hit their very best, as John did with Zenny and as he’s doing with Ebby and others in his barn. It speaks volumes to me that OUR JOHN and AIDAN O’BRIEN are two trainers who resist the current wisdom that great horses all come into their own as 3 year-olds!
ENJOY!!!

Question: which post are we commenting on now? I’m so confused!
Anyway, I’ll post here one last time before I head on over to the newest post about the new prints.
Oops, seems I have gotten off track with my countdown to graduation day. Sorry about that guys. X-)
I have great news! Mia was adopted by a volunteer at SHERR! They are going to have loads of fun together! It was love at first sight! Champ has a 50/50 chance of adoption. Depending on his condition, he might be adopted out OR he will stay with SHERR and be a proud representative. Either way, he’ll have a great life!

Dear ?, The ID tatoo is located on the inside of the upper lip. I imagine it stings like is would do us. Don’t know when the tat is done. Maybe someone will tell us. Don’t think it makes the horse head-shy. Perhaps they are given some sedation & won’t even remember the process.

TO ALL JOHN FANS: Go over to Backside 55 Facebook and read the wonderful poem that was posted there. I felt very honoured to have read it.

It is on this site too. See newer post.

Cozmic One is a big, handsome colt, but there is something about 13Z that makes one feel is a real deal! I love seeing pictures of the Zenyatta and her colt.

Hollywood Park: Stevens takes day off after spill
By Steve Andersen Daily Racing Form Updated on 06/02/2013 4:59PM
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens took off his mounts at Betfair Hollywood Park on Sunday, a day after being unseated in a turf race.
Stevens, who is booked to ride Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes in New York, was scheduled to have two mounts Sunday.
He worked one horse Sunday morning but said he was “pretty sore” and chose not to ride. Later in the morning, Stevens, 50, said he went to a hospital near Santa Anita for precautionary X-rays on his ribs.

Zenny, had see orb 44 mph jockey cam video, in nature is no quickest horse, horses in herd choose quick by themselves, orb likes to breeze on very cold wet weather in free racecourse not near fence when legs are helthy, Zenny, how do you think, race, horses in breezed herd don’t cut way of each other by themselves, ……..black mango thirsty for more litlle josh randino……..Rosie N have high school education grade, my lute is more safe on racecourse…….., may be other way of this, beautyfull zenny lil red 13z cozmicone kiss you love you, walk and breeze on air in grass bluegrass, dandelions, plantain, lil clover with paddock mates
Lynn Martin
Another question. I am loving all the information I am getting, so forgive me if I seem obtuse…..as said before, my breeding and training expertise is in dogs! Is the colt actually eating the grass or just checking it out and copying momma Z? Is it my imagination, or is he getting a bit darker? Is he still “supposed” to remain Chestnut? I do see some white at the end of his tail which could be really pretty with his white socks!
zenyen
Lynn,
At this age a little bit of both. Copying Mom but also getting tastes of grass but his primary source of nutrition is still his mother’s milk.
Lane’s End, a farm that has foaled out hundreds of foals and has some of the best experts in the business working in their broodmare barn has called Z13 chestnut from the start. As they are the people with the experience and the hands on point of view I say that Z13 is going to remain chestnut.
Celeste
Zenyen,
Thanks for all the info on various subjects. They are very informative and I enjoy reading them!
