Today’s post is dedicated to the memory of Tasty Temptation, who passed away in late 2013. Tasty was by Zenyatta’s side during her early days at Lane’s End Farm. They carried their foals together and shared a special bond. Tasty will always be remembered fondly by the Zenyatta community.

Further information about Tasty’s passing has been released by Lane’d End. Statement

Lane’s End has been very generous opening their doors to Zenyatta.com and her passionate fans. Their experts have shared with us the inner workings of the farm and granted unprecedented access to the breeding and foaling process. We ask that our fans respect the privacy of Lane’s End and the privately owned horses they care for. Coz, Zi and the Princess are gifts of God as is their incomparable mother.     While doing some research on Tasty, I discovered this photo of her sister, Fresh Sheet, along with her 2013 Midnight Lute foal. Fresh Sheet looks exactly like Tasty and their momma, Parisia. It appears that their breeder is a lady, Yvonne Schwabe, from Acton, Ontario, Canada. Tasty clearly comes from a very good family and she seems to have grown up in a nice part of the world. Her former owners are rightly very proud of Tasty.

        JudyB. You are good at research. Keep an eye open for any photos of White Gladiator, Tasty’s younger brother. He does not appear to have raced yet his year. I’ll bet he looks like Tasty. Might also look like Hansen as Tapit is their sire. By the way, thanks for those photos of Oxbow and Dan.

    Dear Max& Judy.Have you heard Nerissa is thinking of running for the Canadian Senate?It seems there are only 8 senators in Nova Scotia and there should be 10 he’s going to blog about it tomorrow!Estimate might go for the Goodwood cup next,it would suit her,will never forget Persian Punch winning in 2003.
    I heard Toast will be using Lasix at Belmont Saturday I’m not keen on the idea we have to manage without the drug in the UK.Aidan is sending Adelaide.Very disappointing viewing figures for the Irish Derby.We have the same problem with our racing channel as well.Free the Moose!PU Dan and all sick horses plus Reilly Sheena.

      Sheena. Nissy has so many important projects. There are no elections in his home province of Nova Scotia for the Canadian Senate. Even if there were, appointments are made only by the Governor General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Apparently that PM likes cats. Has one named Stanley after the hockey cup. Maybe?
      Good luck to Estimate and Toast. Don’t feel badly about Lasix. Whenever any foreign horses race here, they most often use it without any ill effects. Not using it can be another story, such as Little Zenyatta in the Breeders’ Cup. She bled badly. It took many months for her to recover.
      Free the Moose. Power up CDA, Chromie and all others who are sick. Beast, stay cool at Belmont. Dan, take it easy. Sir and Reilly, thinking of you. Tasty, never forgotten.

    Thanks Max .Some photos I saw were of Fresh Sheet , not Tasty. It is nice to know her line continues and more about where her roots are..Would like to learn more about Tasty.
    I have worried about horses in racing and only came to be interested when I fell in love with Zenyatta and recognized how well she was cared for by her owners and John and Team Z. I am not on the blog often but enjoy following Zenny and Coz, ,Ziconic and her beautiful new filly. I am rooting for Coz and glad he is with John who will be in tune with him and not rush him.
    I love to ride senior horses who have finished their careers and go along the river trails,or just go for a handwalk and a graze. Most of all I just enjoy connecting with them.
    I am becoming interested in the history of horse racing and the amazing horses that have been a part of it.-have a deep sense of appreciation for all of them.

      Dear Sheena and Z Fans:

      Sheena, thank you for this video of Big Bog. He’s getting the hang of feeding himself. Little Bob doesn’t appear to be ready for that just yet.

      Visited Charlie and Hudson today. Hudson was very warm and sweaty when she came back from the ring. She did a few jumps; it was just too hot. Angela brought Charlie in from the paddock for me. He saw me and walked right over for his kiss on the cheek. He expects it now. Hudson was cool walked and had a nice roll in the dirt in the ring. Amanda gave her a good rinsing in the wash box. They both enjoyed their carrots. After Charlie finished his carrots, he went back into the paddock. As soon as Angela unhooked the lead rope, he went running and whinnying as he went to join his Buds. I am overwhelmed sometimes to joyful tears when I see how absolutely happy he is.     So pleased that Max is posting again. Welcome home! Took a sentimental journey to Hollywood Park today, don’t really know why. Sorry I did. There has not been one single housing unit started and the only difference between now and when the track closed is that weeds are growing wild all over the place and it looks more shabby than ever. The infield is completely overgrown and looks like a farm during the great depression. The barns are almost all gone. I was able to go through a hole in the fence near the card casino that is on the grounds. I did take note that the track itself is still there, obviously waiting for a sale of the material used to create it. There are no workers around, at least none working on the “grand plan” to revitalize the area. I am more disgusted with California politics than I ever was, and that took some doing. A pox on all of the people involved with this and those who approved it. I am almost speechless about what has happened to a place where I had spent so many happy times, both as a child and an adult.

        JudyB. Sounds like they haven’t even done that. A housing development caused the loss of the resting place of Hastings. No one knows now where that great horse’s earthy remains are. Only Mr. Ed can express how I feel about a lot of disappointing human projects. Progress: yeah, right! Swift was correct. We’d be better off by far if horses ruled the world. Zenyatta knows best.

I hope it isn’t the usual ploy of doing what you want to do and hoping that people forget about it. I can guarantee that will not happen in this case.

        What an apt musical reference to depict the destruction of properties in the name of progress. I hate it. Progress, that is. At least when it involves such historic places as Hollywood Park and all the other discarded race tracks, as well as simply bulldozing over a nice little suburban forested area to build yet another shopping center. Ugh. Sorry for my rant. My heart aches you had to see all that, Terry.

    So very glad to see you back. It was very sad here without you here. Thought about you Saturday night too when Gold Ship won the big Japanese race for the 2nd time. I don’t think he is any kin to Tasty but he sure is a pretty gray. I did get a big smile when he at the end almost bucked that jockey off of him. Least he waited till the end. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see if he pulled any tantrum. Love those fiesty boys.

    Dear Terry, I’m still so sad about Hollywood Park being gone. Still just can’t believe it. Worry about what’s going to be next.

      Peggy. I saw that race. The English media said that Gold Ship is very quirky, and will only win if he decides to race. No one knows what motivates him. He also doesn’t like jockeys. Nothing beats these bad boys in my esteem.

    July 2 Cherokee Devotional

    To someone who likes to walk, all of nature is a miracle. The sights and sounds and fragrances are ever different and soothing to the spirit. But evening has a special charm when the sunset changes from phase to phase, coloring and shading the fields with an artist’s touch. The sky is tinted with the palest pink that has edges of gold-and then, in a subtle movement, purples and deep blues darken the hills along the horizon. The wind-tossed clouds catch the last rays of sunlight, rose-red and wavy like strands of silky hair. Above it all, the evening star emerges cool and blue to dominate little by little. Earth and sky and all between have special times when everything else gives way to beauty. If only we could be so generous with one another.

    Today you saw a deer bounding through the forest, he was lovely in strength and beauty, fleeter than the winds.

Those baby goats playing on top of the horse were just precious!!! That horse was SO patient! That will be devastating if Joey’s cancer has returned. Praying hard that isn’t the case.     Saw an old re-run of Hee Haw on TV today. It was so old, Johnny Cash, the guest star, looked young. One if my favorite parts of the show was always when the country folk were lounging around on hay bales, telling jokes. Here is a sample. Two guys were talking and one of them says “You going to the dance Saturday night?” The other one says “Yep.” The first one then said “You taking a bath?” The second guy then said “Nope. It ain’t formal.” I must admit I miss that show.

        I read something very cute a few days ago and suppose to be true. I was telling them at work today and they thought it was too Funny.
        A customer of mine brought me the magazine Equus. It had Secretariat on the Cover and lot of info about him in it. They had a question and answer session with Penny Chenery. They were asking her about the movie of Secretariat and how much of it was true. They asked her a question about luckily one of my favorite parts in the whole movie. The scene where they were outside dancing around and they were giving Secretariat a bath and singing “Oh Happy Days” loved that part well they asked Penny if it happened in real life. Her answer was,
        “It never Happened” she said Secretariat would have never stood still that long.
        That was too cute. Loved her honesty.

    Thanks Anne NC and Terry Crow for your comments thanking me for my time with senior horses.I am a little slow- just noticed your sweet comments-smile .It is me who is thankful,they give me so much. From the whinney when I come to the barn to the head on my shoulder at the end. Yes,Terry I do love the seniors of all animals and while I have a young dog now my old gal taught me alot and opened my heart.
