Happy Friday!
As you all know, Zenyatta delivered her first filly on Easter Sunday. She was born at 12:03 am, weighing in at 151 lbs! Zenyatta’s lifetime friend and current paddock mate, Life Is Sweet, delivered an adorable colt not an hour before, just as across the aisle from Zenyatta.
Earlier this month we held a contest asking fans to guess 14Z’s birthday, and we received over 2,500 entries. As usual, we couldn’t pick just one winner! Serena Riecken of Ashland, Nebraska is the official winner, guessing April 19 at 11:53 pm. Don Krueger entered April 20 at 12:04 am. He went over by just one minute, so we think he’s a winner too.
Serena and Don will each receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the above photo signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. If you would like to order a print of this image for yourself, it is now available here at the Zenyatta Shop.
In the coming days we will share more images from the night of the foaling, our trip, and Zenyatta with her darling filly. For now, we’ll leave you with just a few new photos.
Enjoy!

Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI and Princess Z:
Princess, hope the weather there is good for you and Mama to play in the paddock. You to ZI. COZ, hope you’re enjoying your training. Love all of you so much. Love and Hugs, JB

Congratulations to Mama Zenyatta:
My birthday is also April 20th, and I am a Kentuckian by birth. I have a birthmark on my right lower leg that looks like a horse’s head, and when I was young I use to tell people that I was a famous Kentucky racehorse who was reborn a human…LOL
I now am a resident of Huntsville, Alabama.
I look forward to Zenyatta’s babies burning up the race courses.
Happy Derby Day!
Maryann Krueger
Thank you so much for allowing Don to get the signed photo of Zenyatta and her little one. The picture is lovely and we are so lucky to have won it! Thank you again!

New post up folks – wonderful picture!!!

The new filly is very feminine, isn’t she? Can’t wait to see Life Is Sweet’s boy. Who is his sire? It’s such fun to see the foals and be able to watch them progress.
The Queen is still magnificent to look at. She’ll always be dear to me. Thanks so much for shoring her.

Typo alert— Thanks so much for SHARING her!!!!!

Oh Boy–Oh Boy—just LOVE all of the new photos!!! The Princess is regal, indeed–and she looks so sweet–and Wow–those legs–they just go on and on!! Bet she IS going to be like her Mama!! It’s so wonderful to be able to share in these first days!!! And,how perfect that Life is Sweet had her baby the same night!! Hope that means that they will be able to stay together. Such a lovely thing for the Queen to be able to keep up her friendship–I imagine that is a rare thing and I’m sure it is a blessing for her.
Barnaby and Traveller are finally back to normal!! What a relief!! Saturday, when we got down to the barn, they had groomed the arena with a different tractor than usual and the arena was still filled with diesal fumes!!! We got all the tack out and groomed them outside!! I wouldn’t even take Barnaby in to breathe that stuff! It was looking as if it was going to rain any minute so I ended up just grooming him and not saddleing up. Traveller let Sue tack her up and she had a brief, but good, ride. After she rode, she walked Traveller around the barns for a few minutes to eat a little grass, while Barnaby stayed in one of the outdoor small arenas to just run around. When Sue went around the corner of the big indoor arena, and Barnaby couldn’t see her anymore,he started rearing around in the arena and crying in his (as Sue calls it) his “pathetic whinny”. He sounds like a little foal who has lost his Mama–she makes fun of it all the time!! He was just fine as soon as Traveller came back into view–they really are bonded.\
Barnaby has impressed a lot of folks at the barn with his sweet and friendly ways–of course,I LOVE hearing from people about how great he is! Proud mama? You bet!!!
Sue and I are planning to ride in an Obstacle Clinic, on the 17 th of May. It should be really dfun to see how they do seeing all the strange things in the arena and having to approach them all. Most who ride in those are the western riders there–we’ve decided to dress up in our full English regalia,as though we were going to a fox hunt!! We told them we’ll be the comic relief!!
Max,loved your mentioning Ribot! I think I mentioned before that my little TB Faded Rosebud, called Rosie, was Ribot’s grand-daughter–and,of course,as such,Bold Ruler’s great grand-daughter! She DID have Ribot’s temperment!! She was really a pistol!! She never DID enjoy being ridden and was mostly a “pasture ornament” all of her life. If I have not told the story about how she saved her own life, after aspirating a carrot, let me know and I will. It was really something!!
Loved the Big D videos, and the one about all of the Heroic Animals!!WELCOME BACK,KathyR–will tell Barnaby you’re back! I used to tell him about you and give him your messages!
Sweet dreams and peace to all—may no one suffer from the weather tonight!!!

Sue – there was a new post up by the time you posted this one. I’ve copied it into the newer one – I know that many people were anxious to hear how Barnaby and Traveller were doing.

Oh Yea Awesome Princess Z. She is beautiful. Just like her brothers. Is Coz going to be racing this year? Would love to get to see him win horse of the year.

That would defiantly be amazing to see Coz in his first year of racing that he won horse of the year!

I just watched the “Kentucky Life” piece on Zenyatta. It was very well done. I was moved by the respect and appreciation they showed to the magnificent mare who changed the face of American thoroughbred racing. Exclusive video of Zenyatta, commentary, interviews, photos, and career highlights demonstrated why we love her so much! Check it out:

Hi!
So happy to read that Zenyatta is taking a year off from breeding. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to her.
Ms. Z14 is so beautiful. She actually looks a lot like Ziconic.
God love both Zenyatta and Ms. Z14.
Thank you!

How about the name “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” for 14Z??
LuvGus
Way too many letters! But I think “She’s Magic” works just as well!
Barbara Wilson
I wonder if it might be nice to figure out a name that would also honor Sargent Reckless.
