Amazing that the same place is where he shoots all his photos; bad enough to have horses charging at you on the flat, but charging after jumping that hurdle. Poor guy, what dedication, he is so deserving of the award. A photo one will never see again.
An amazing piece of photography, so glad it was only a broken leg and he has recovered only to take more wonderful photographs.
All horse sports are extreme – even dressage (steerage – as horses are unpredictable and living creatures) My friend who had a lovely wonderful horse, “her best horse” of two was riding him, he put his nose down into a pile of fire ants while she was on him; and there was a rodeo like none seen before and she cracked her helmet in two and had a fairly severe concussion and that was in

Dear Kathy.It’s still incredidly mild over here I had to switch my heating off!There is a fascinating programme on called The Hunt”and how predators even share their prey.I never tire of watching wildlife programmes.Her Majesty sent a message of sympathy to the north-west today.There are floods in parts of Norway as well.It may take a year for folks to return to their homes in Cumbria.Pat Eddery’s funeral took place this morning in Oxford.May he find peace now.

Today’s devo:
“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:2)
Over and over the Bible baffles our curiosity about just how certain things happened. How did this “star” get the magi from the east to Jerusalem?
It does not say that it led them or went before them. It only says they saw a star in the east (verse 2), and came to Jerusalem. And how did that star go before them in the little five-mile walk from Jerusalem to Bethlehem as verse 9 says it did? And how did a star stand “over the place where the Child was”?
The answer is: We do not know. There are numerous efforts to explain it in terms of conjunctions of planets or comets or supernovas or miraculous lights. We just don’t know. And I want to exhort you not to become preoccupied with developing theories that are only tentative in the end and have very little spiritual significance.
I risk a generalization to warn you: People who are exercised and preoccupied with such things as how the star worked and how the Red Sea split and how the manna fell and how Jonah survived the fish and how the moon turns to blood are generally people who have what I call a mentality for the marginal. You do not see in them a deep cherishing of the great central things of the gospel — the holiness of God, the ugliness of sin, the helplessness of man, the death of Christ, justification by faith alone, the sanctifying work of the Spirit, the glory of Christ’s return and the final judgment. They always seem to be taking you down a sidetrack with a new article or book. There is little centered rejoicing.
But what is plain concerning this matter of the star is that it is doing something that it cannot do on its own: it is guiding magi to the Son of God to worship him.
There is only one Person in biblical thinking that can be behind that intentionality in the stars — God himself.
So the lesson is plain: God is guiding foreigners to Christ to worship him. And he is doing it by exerting global — probably even universal — influence and power to get it done.
Luke shows God influencing the entire Roman Empire so that the census comes at the exact time to get a virgin to Bethlehem to fulfill prophecy with her delivery. Matthew shows God influencing the stars in the sky to get foreign magi to Bethlehem so that they can worship him.
This is God’s design. He did it then. He is still doing it now. His aim is that the nations — all the nations (Matthew 24:14) — worship his Son.
This is God’s will for everybody in your office at work, and in your neighborhood and in your home. As John 4:23 says, “Such the Father seeks to worship him.”
At the beginning of Matthew we still have a “come-see” pattern. But at the end the pattern is “go-tell.” The magi came and saw. We are to go and tell.
But what is not different is that the purpose of God is the ingathering of the nations to worship his Son. The magnifying of Christ in the white-hot worship of all nations is the reason the world exists.

You all remember Ferdinand and his tragic end.A granddaughter now awaits the same fate somewhere in Central California.Aged 19 and in poor condition she is “past her sell-by date”she has befriended a quarter horse and they huddle together giving each other some comfortI think she has had 7 foals and indeed looks as if she recently gave birth.It just makes me SICK!!Sheena

When the first snowflakes catch on leafless trees and crisp cold wind sweeps our faces, we know winter is in earnest. It turns the bright green canes of the wild rose to gray and sprinkles hickory nuts and walnuts on the path to the woods.
The entire landscape seems to be one color-but the variation is so subtle and low-key that it takes a little while to see the green lichen and the misty blue haze that hangs over the tiny stream.
Life sometimes appears to be at a standstill, and nothing is beautiful-no color, no shape, no hope. But if we refocus, if we are sincere and we use wisdom, we will move toward a new spring, just as does the season.

Love the analogy. I’m usually the one intent on watching a bug cross the road, not even hearing the mac truck about to squish us both! I see almost everything through an ‘artist’s lens’ – catching minute details. My husband has said many times that I see life through rose-colored glasses. I am tenacious in trying to right wrongs. As with us all, we’ve seen so many sad and tragic people and animals and situations. We think we can only do ‘so much’, but before and after the ‘so much’ is the important part – praying. God is in charge. I often say to Him, “I am wondering what are YOU up to?” Of course he often gives me His answer, and often doesn’t. I am so thankful He is here – He is everywhere. Dear Kathy.It’s wonderful to be with like-minded people on this blog.I once spent an hour watching a spider spin a web outside my kitchen window and marvelled.I thought of those poor mares all night and I pray we get some news another granddaughter of Ferdinand was rescued in Oklahoma recently.
Ryan is doing very well in the international jockey’s challenge in the lead so far.It’s still pretty mild over here but more for the flooded areas.It’s amazing how quickly it disappears off the main news!!Seems Mark Zuckerberg’s little girl is called Maxima and Kim Kardashian’s baby is called Saint!Mango and mattie are getting so much mail they were worn out!And a very generous donation too.The ratties are looking forward to Christmas 1st in their home!Did you see the kitten on Joey’s page?asking for them to adopt her maybe???Ray finished off the last of his birthday cake lucky boy.We are fortunately getting lots of updates and pics of the gorgeous Treve.Cue Card is looking forward to boxing day and Coneygree seems well on the way to recovery.Zoe got to wear her nurse’s uniform yesterday and is visiting Mr Al this Friday.Happy hump day.Love and hugs to you,kisses for Holly.Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Congratulations to the Pharoah for winning the Secretariat Vox Populi award! That will give him and Our Queen something to discuss if they have a date in the future. I think Pharoah should also have been named Time’s Personality of the Year, but German Chancellor Angela Merkle got the nod. I’d think someone who made so many millions of people so happy and gave all of us continued inspiration during a very hard year for our world deserves the title.

Around this time of year, stress is difficult to escape. From gift-buying to managing family relationships to busyness smack-dab in the middle of an already busy schedule, it can be an overwhelming and downright stressful time of year – a time when our thoughts and minds can become focused on the chaos. This year, let’s challenge ourselves to “Phillipians 4:8 it.”
What does it mean to “Philippians 4:8 it?” Screen each thought, emotion or reaction by thinking, “Is this true? Is it lovely? Commendable? Worthy of praise?” This season, let’s focus only on those truths, those things worthy of praise.
A good way to “Philippians 4:8” it? Let’s look for constant visual reminders to help set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. Here are a few ideas to help set the mind on truths all day every day during this season:
Remind yourself of things that are true and lovely at home. When gathering around the table with family, a visual reminder of blessings may be able to help transform a spill at the table or a difficult family situation into a moment of grace and truth. A more personal idea is having your family write down things for which they are grateful, serving as a constant reminder of blessings in the midst of a chaotic time.
Add reminders at the office. At the Christmas party or potluck, or in the midst of a stressful season at work, something as simple as a quote at your desk can filter out noise, help you remember things worthy of praise and can even quietly speak truth to those around you.
Add a sprinkling of personal reminders. A piece of jewelry with a meaningful phrase or blessings written down next to your grocery list in a notebook or journal are two simple ways to focus on things that are true and excellent. While jotting down your to-do list, turn and re-read your list of blessings. Or while running what seems like the millionth errand to buy that last-minute gift, glance in the rearview mirror and remind yourself of the truth inscribed on your necklace.
During this Christmas season, when dealing with a cranky toddler or an opinionated aunt, or when trying to manage children, gifts and food all at the same time, may we all look around and remember to think on the truths, on the excellence of Jesus, on the things worthy of praise.

It has been awhile since I posted. Some old friends of mine were killed in the San Bernardino massacre. When I was a contributing member of society, part of my job was to conduct teaching hospital audits at Loma Linda Hospital. The shootings happened about 40 miles from where I live. I am just now getting to the point where I can talk about it.
