Thanks for posting this video link. Very poignant indeed.
I clicked on the video which follows that one, and it is well worth watching, too. It tells of Dr. Sidney LaPook who was in the dental corps and landed on the beaches in France. He was in the little village of Batilly and was asked to look at a cow that had been injured by shrapnel or some weapon. Without hesitation, he proceeded to sew up the wound, thus saving the cow’s life. There are a few people still alive who remember this. The village awarded him with a medal. He has been back to Batilly several times over the decades. This is a good interview/video entitled “Still a Local Hero”. Check it out.
I watched that one too. What a kind, caring man. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy B.,
There was a classmate of mine from 1st grade through 12th who after graduation was drafted and went to Vietnam. Sadly, he was killed. John was very smart with a wry sense of humor. He showed great promise at baseball playing short-stop. I think of him often. That was such a costly war, but then all of them are. Thanks again for the post.

Dear Judy,
Thank you so much for posting this. We’re here due in largest part to the brave men and women who have served our country. So many stories like Dr. LaPook’s. Most of the people who have those stories in their history never talk about it. So brave and so kind. Hope you have a wonderful day. with love, Elizabeth
News of Catch a Glimpse as she continues to improve. Read elsewhere that she will get some rest at her owner’s farm. Think that it’s near King City, just north of Toronto in the Greater Toronto Area. Horse heaven. She will probably get a call from Gun Runner and Biscuits. Chestnuts stick together.
Dear Max, Thank You so much for this article. Beginning to sound a little more realistic what happened. Have been worried about her. So hope she gets better soon.
I bet she does hear from Gun Runner and Bisquits. I bet Bisquits could send her some treats.
Thank you for posting this info on Catch A Glimpse. Something else was going on with her; poor baby. Hope she continues to do well and recovers completely. Love and Hugs, JB
Am I understanding this right that he thinks she might have had an abscess in her lungs (or somewhere in her airway)? Yikes! Glad to know that she’s recovering well. Power up baby!
I remember Best Mate had a bleed from his lungs while training for the Gold Cup in 2005.He should have been retired because he died in his comeback race at Exeter in November that year.
Max
Best Mate was a terrible loss. He was a fine horse. Do you remember Thomas Chippendale in the Hardwicke in 2013? That death came totally out of the blue. You never want to see a horse pass away like they did. I’m worried about Catch. Spring in the Air also known as Little Zenyatta because of her dancing was never the same after that bleed at Santa Anita.

Dear Sheena, Max an Z Fans:
I hope they do what’s best for CAG. Max, I remember Little Zenyatta/SITA. She raced last in 2015, but, as you said, never returned to her early form after the 2012 BC Juvenile Fillies, when she bled. Still she has a good record: 20 starts; 4 wins, 6 second and 2 thirds and earnings of almost 1M. I checked to see if she has had any foals; none listed on Pedigree Query. Hope she is living a happy, healthy life. Love and Hugs, JB
Got a new Filly that sure might want to join the Chestnut Club. Judy and I were talking about her last night. She is beautiful and she sure has a lot of spunk. In her race in January at Gulfstream Park. She got hit on her nose by the jockeys whip in the race when she was going around her foe. Not to let this hit by the whip go by gently, she turned around and bit at the jockeys whip and still went on to win the race. Just have fallen in love with her. She’s owned by the Phipps Stable and is at Belmont now. I sure bet this little 3 year old could give Gun Runner and Bisquits a run for their money.
Her Name is Bellavais. I don’t think anyone needs to use a whip on her.
Peggy,
Thanks for telling us about this little girl. Perhaps she can teach some of the others to take a nip at the whip and the jock! Wish her the best and good health. She will be well taken care of if she belongs to the Phipps and will end up in the broodmare band at Claiborne.
Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful pictures of Zenyatta and her precious girl. Love to see these pictures. I love Zenyatta so much and am so glad she has such good owners and trainers. Love you lots Zenyatta and babies. Thank you again Team Z for keeping us posted on all that is going on with our girl and her babies. Hugs and kisses to Zenyatta and her babies.
I’ll be that lots of us are feeling just a tad “disoriented” today – always happens after these three-day holiday weekends :-) You’re right – one day closer to Friday than usual!
Thank you so very much for these beautiful photos! Baby girl is beautiful. She has the look of eagles in her eyes and of course already loves the camera. Zenyatta looks fabulous. Thank you so much Team Z. All my love to all of you.
Good Morning everyone !! It is glorious here today–seems like we went straight from Memorial Day into full summer !!
It’s a good thing that Barnaby and Traveller have their new fly masks on, as I’m sure the flies are massing down at the farm, I think I’ve told you about the other dute ones they have–with Traveller looking as though she had a zebra head and Barnaby looking as though his was a tiger,as well as his clown one, and, the best of all, hers that looks like she has pink foam curlers on her head, and glasses with those bead things hanging off of them and blue eye make-up !! Of course, all of these things are just painted on, but, they are so cute. Boss Mare Sue showed up this weekend with new ones for them—-they are now a pair of pirates, with black eye patches with skull and crossbones on them and one earring !! They look adorable !! We still have not told them that they are not going back to East Fork ( I think I already mentioned that their Aunt Rita is selling her place) as Sue wants to wait until we have both returned from our respective vacations and can be with them all summer. One thing that is already helping them is thew fact that the farm has several grass paddocks, just for turn-out–they have been going in there for at least a half an hour every time we go down—they just love it !! That is going to help them get over not having their pasture at Rita’s–and–Traveller will not b
e able to get enough to give her colic !!
I was so glad to see that others were mindful of President Kennedy’s birthday. He was the first President I was able to vote for and I absolutely adored him–and gorgeous Jackie ! I felt the world seem to tilt on it’s axis when he died. Nothing has ever been the same since. Like someone else said here, the world would be a different place, had he lived. I loved Bobby too when we lost him, I was devastated. I must confess I have spent a lot of time over the years thinking of what might have been. I’d like to think that he might still have been alive at 100, sitting in a rocker on the porch in Hyannisport, ruminating on all he accomplished and remembering his years happily teaching at Harvard. Ah, if only.
Wanted to tell you all about another possible member of the “Chestnut Club”. She was in the race after the next to last time Zi ran. She is very stately and has hit the board several times, though not broken her maiden yet. She is now in my virtual stable and I love her–in fact, I dream of buying her if I could just win the lottery !! Of course, I would then beg John to take her on !!
So glad to get these new “Princess Pictures”–she is so gorgeous and so full of energy. Zenyatta is the picture of happiness, gazing at her baby–and at Ann. How blessed we are to be able to see them together. Everlasting thanks to all who make it possible.
Thank you so much for these pictures! Zenyatta and her filly look so happy and healthy. That little girl LOVES to run!!! She is precious and she looks very confident. I love all of the pictures but the ones with Ann are so sweet. You can see how much she loves Zenyatta and her filly and how much they love her.

She is a darling! So much personality already in her very young life. If I was naming her, I’d call her Springz — because she is here to love and to love you after the winter of the loss of her two half siblings. And because that is what she has on her legs, with a Z for her mother.
