We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Dear Zenyatta, 13Z, Tapit, Team Z and Lane’s End:
Huge congratulations and lots of lovely hugs!! What a beautiful little ole chestnut baby!
Simply gorgeous, and of course, Mama is truly stunning.
Hugs to 12Z, too!
Thank you to the Mosses and LE for your generosity in allowing us to be included!
You’re THE BEST!
Maria Mann
I second that Thank You to the Mosses for being so generous with their wonderful mare. :)

Thank you, Queen Z, for delivering your second colt on your and my birthday, April 1. He is beautiful, and I just love that streak down his face. I wonder what 12Z will think of his new little brother. Best wishes to you all. Now I can rest, knowing that all is well. Much love., Shirley

What a wonderful lesson in motherly love. Nature has so much to teach to all of us, so called human and rational beings. It brings smiles to my face to see the tight bond between mother and son. Zenyatta is such a lovely horse, that inspires nothing but admiration for her beauty and professional race record.
Happy Birthday Zenyatta and Z13,
Paula Higgins
I cannot get enough of these baby pictures with Zenny. Beyond precious. What a wonderful mother she is and he looks just like her with his ears and blaze. Thank you so much for the pictures.
Divas Mom
Well Congratulations to Zenyatta and Tapit on such a beautiful foal! This little guy is just perfect, such a short head and kind eye like “Z” & Tapit. I watched another Bright Chestnut foal grow up and even bet on him to win the Triple Crown…his name was “Secretariat! This foal looks a lot like he did. So happy for all involved and for sharing these photos with us. Hugs and Kisses!!!! :)
Abby
I was thinking the same thing!!! When I first saw him I had a little gasp, something about him reminded me of Secretariat then I read that he stood up and nursed relatively quickly and tears came to my eyes! Even if he’s not the next king of racing he’ll always have a special place in OUR hearts :)
Pam
Beautiful colt. So glad all went well and Z and baby are healthy. Looking forward to watch him grow.
Jo
Pure Joy! Thank you so much! Thrilled for Zenyatta adn the little one (not so “little”) and thrilled for Team Zenyatta.
Nancy Wassouf
Z is just as beautiful as a new Mom. She is so attentive to her new son. Wish we could all look that good just after giving birth! Thanks for the pictures.
Barbie Taylor
Beautiful baby with ears like Z.

An Early Favorite For the 2016 Derby?
Superhorse Zenyatta bore a colt sired by Tapit, one of the nation’s leading stallions, late Monday night. The foal was standing and bucking within an hour, according to owners Ann and Jerry Moss, who were at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky for the birth on April 1, which is also Zenyatta’s birthday.
Jerry Moss said they typically wait about two years to name a horse: “It’s a hard thing. It’s also personal.” One idea—Blazen, a reference to the foal’s facial marking and Zenyatta’s name—but the moniker has already been taken.
The chestnut colt was described as angular and a good combination of both parents, making him an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby—in 2016.

I just love Zenyatta! Both her colts are beautiful. Congratulations Queen Z!
Keta
Beautiful Boy, Mama!
Anyone notice he is a big one.
Remember the photo of 12Z peeking out from under Zenyatta in the paddock!
Don’t think that 13Z will be doing that.
Love the chestnut color–very happy if he stays that way.
But, if he does change, he will still the the Zenyatta birthday gift to us on her day.
And, that is more than enough.
It is nice that he is not a twin of 12Z. It is hard enough being the younger brother.
It would be even harder if you look alike. There will always be comparisons.
Glad the foaling is over. Glad Z & foal are healthy.
Thanks again Team Zenyatta for including us in these special events.

Dear Keta:
I was thinking the same thing. He looks like Z and The Prince, but he’s outstanding in his beautiful coloring. Two beautiful boys. Z has really put her stamp on these two. Hugs, JB
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Judy & Keta; I do agree with both your comments. 13z with his bay color has grown up so into that handsome Prince because he shares a lot of his Mama’s looks. And now another but only a different color. How great is that! 13z head looks like his Mama I think. Bernadini and Tapit I am sure have played a part too.
hugs, Sally B

Thank you to the Moss’s, Team Z, and Lane’s End, I truly appreciate all that you do to keep us all informed on news about Queen Z and her foals. Z13 is beautiful and I am very thankful to all of you for sharing these photos with us. Queen Z I’m sending you a big hug and kisses on your nose. I am glad everything went well with the foaling. Now it is time for you to rest sweet girl and spend time away from the camera while you bond with you little one. I love you Zenyatta! Thank you again to the Moss’s for being such generous owners and sharing Z with all of us. Thank you to Team Z and Lane’s End for everything you guys do.

Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Blazen came up last night as a nickname. Just like Blaze. I like Blazen cause it just seems so unusual.
For now we have a chestnut colt but will he gray out? The markings around his eyes would indicate he might. His eyes looks like he has rings around them, which color wise seem a bit lighter. The markings around his nose–the pinky gray coloring–might he gray out? Could he be a red roan?
I think only time will tell. He seems awfully cute and huge! But I haven’t forgotten about dear Prince. How we love Prince. Zenyatta seems awfully kind to share not only herself but her kids too.
I’m anxious to hear all the details or as much as the Team is willing to share. Did Z and Blazen go outside today? Or did they stay in cause he was born so late in the evening? How is Z doing? Was it as easy as last year? 145 lbs? Will the Moss’s do a wait and see about breeding her back in a month or so? Blazen seems awfully big and that could’ve taken a lot out of her. Would she be ready for another pregnancy given the size of the baby, the “lateness” of the year–thinking that the 2014 baby wouldn’t be born til late Apr/early May. I know a kazillion questions.
Mostly LE’s please give our best to Z and her new HUGE bundle of joy. We are so grateful for the time and the hours you put in everyday for the horses. And TeamZ words will never convey adequately how we feel about you! You’re the best and set the bar so high for to treat the fans!
Kelli
RE: ‘Could he be a red roan?’
No, he cannot be a red roan. Roan is an entirely separate gene from gray. Little 13z might turn gray like dad, but he has no roan parent to give him a roan gene to make him roan.

Many thanks for posting these wonderful pictures. It is always wonderful to see a mother and baby together. Congrats on the new born.

What a handsome little guy he is with the sweetest face ever. Brought me such joy to see these pixs – thanks so much LE and of course Ann and Jerry for sharing – real class act indeed.

A Poem on the Arrival of 13Z
(April 1, 2013)
’Twas a mighty fine day
Last spring,
When the Queen, again longing
To be in a family way,
Wished to go visit
The handsome Tapit,
That gorgeous gray
At nearby Gainesway.
Those who to the Queen attend
At her court
Within Lane’s End
Did her thither escort
So she could some moments spend
With her chosen consort.
Then for a year
We did wait
To hear
What blessed new offspring
That romantic date
Would the Queen bring.
Now with joyous fanfare
We the birth celebrate
Of the second princely son
Of our beloved mare,
Who just before midnight did come.
When the Mosses a tweet did send
“We are here at Lane’s End,”
We knew it wouldn’t be long
Till the baby’s birth.
Z-sters all over this earth,
And those who have passed
To heaven above,
Prayed nothing would go wrong
For the mare that we all love.
We were gripped
With a foal-watch sort
Of March Madness,
Ill equipped
Patient to be
As we anxiously did await
This portentous date.
In that month’s final week,
We, increasingly forlorn,
Did constantly news seek
Till all hours of the morn
To see if the baby’d been born.
Now we, dear Z,
With great gladness
Do celebrate
The colt thou hast
At last
Safely delivered,
And who, once out,
(Bless his stout heart!),
Was soon on his feet
With a flourish
And eager for you him to nourish
Though his long legs may have quivered.
For Zenyatta, right from the start,
No other treat
Could ever compete
With being able to greet
This tiny new baby,
So perfectly sweet,
And give him a mother’s care.
Her foal’s presence
Does Zenyatta afford
A happiness wondrous and complete,
Evoking a musical chord,
Yea, provoking mystic resonance,
Deep in Z’s heart
And her soul.
We Z-ster uncles and aunties,
For our part,
Join in a hallelujah chorus
For Z and her baby by Tapit.
We sincerely thank Team Z
So very much
For all they do for us
And hope they’ll their habit
Continue
Of keeping us in close touch
With beloved Queen Z,
Her faithful retinue,
And all her royal progeny!
Welcome to the world, 13Z! Thank you, Queen Z and thank you, Team Z! Blessings to all!

Thank you Team Z for the photo’s of the Queen and Prince ZT, such adorable pic’s. I can’t get over how big he is and amazing how the Queen did not seem as big as when she was pregnant with Prince ZB.
Am still giddy with joy its sickening. Thank you Queen Z for all the goodwill you are spreading
Good night to all my Z nation family and especially to the Queen and her rainbow crowd which includes the youngest Prince, Prince snr, Team Z, her parents and everyone at Lanes End. It is well and we continue to thank God for the uneventful birth free of complication.
Susan
He is so cute! He has a blaze like his Mommy and maybe some ears too!
Michelle Dean
It’s a pink baby!!! I just love it when they gray out!!! They look too cool!!! Their coat is shedding chestnut turning gray so it appears pinkish! Then at this point he also still has his chestnut mane and tail, hence a pink baby!!! My fab<3. Was Tapit chestnut when he was born? I know there is chestnut in the lineage, but not sure about Tapit as a foal???
Thanks & Congrats on a Gorgeous Baby Colt!!!
A big Thank You to all connections for sharing this special time with Z's fans! She is one special Lady! So happy to see her so happy!
Peace, Michelle Dean

Dear Team Z,
Thank you guys for sharing the new photos of 13Z, can you guys also make a new video of Queen Z, 12Z & 13Z all together. I wonder what they are like when all 3 of em’ are together.
AriesChild
I doubt they will do a video with all three of them together because Z12 is so big and rambunctious at only a year old, and he doesn’t understand that Z13 is his little brother and might just think Z13 is someone to play with and Z13 could get hurt. Not to mention thatQueen Z would probably get very protective of Z13 if she felt he was in danger.

Precious photos, thank you so much!
I’m so relieved everything went smoothly and Zenyatta had another healthy foal. Enjoy it, momma Z!

My elderly horse, a chestnut with a wide blaze, one of those dollar horses that’s turns into the best horse ever, for 30 plus years, just died. I like to think horse souls have a way of coming back, and Chicago loved being a race pony. He always wanted to race- here’s to hoping he came back as the son of my favorite living racehorse! If not, maybe next time. Does my heart good to see a foal, thank you again for sharing Zenyatta’s world!
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Ellen; My heart goes out to you for such a loss. It is devastating after 30 years much less a shorter time. You have 30 years of wonderful memories and I hope that will help in time.

Dear Ellen,
Sincere condolences to you as you grieve the loss of Chicago. Wow, what a nice long run you and he enjoyed. You referred to him as “one of those dollar horses that turns into the best horse ever” — sounds as if he was Priceless.
Thoughts and prayers go out to you. Take care and Hugs

I just love the new photos, 13Z is a gorgeous baby.
I am reminded of Frankel’s baby brother who was born in February he is a lovely chestnut with a very wide white blaze, he is gorgeous too.
I am hoping 13Z has some white feet.
Love you Z everything you do is perfect, they broke the mold when you were born.

OMG – Love 13Z too – what a beautiful family Ms. Z has produced and I agree with Donna, the mold was broken when Z was born. You’re an awesome horse and I just finished watching all your races again – so inspiring!!
