We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Dear Z-Dumplings–didn’t post anything today since you heard directly from Skip. I will share more if she doesn’t have time when she gets to Louisiana.
I am fondly turning back the clock in my mind to the last Apple Blossom you raced in, dear Zenny. We were there, and you were a rock star. It was like the Grand Canyon–you just have to see it to appreciate it. Wish I could be there tomorrow, but alas, my hubby’s 55th high school reunion is in the way. Praying for safe trips for all horses and jockeys.

dear max hovis is certainly having fun in the warmer weather our daffs seem to have been in flower for a longer time this year the destroyer must be mad !! ladies must have been thrilled this week to see him out naked!!!enjoyed the video of seattle slew love a walk down memory lane hugs sheena

Sheena. Thanks to you for telling us about him. We now have Hovis to follow. I am not sure why he hates flowers, but he is never dull about anything. I guess that he has discarded his blanket because of warmer weather. Happy for you if spring is finally there.
I read that Juddemonte has high hopes for Cityscape to win some group 1s now that Frankel has retired. Cityscape did not do so well against Wise Dan last fall at Woodbine, but then few horses do well against Dan. Johnny V says that Dan is a freak. Dan is one beautiful ole chestnut. He’s running wild on Wolf Power.

Wise Dan has powered home to take the Maker’s 46 Mile. Dan, you are great.

JudyB. So very happy for Dan. He’s a great horse. Waiting for the video. Uncle Johnny will be proud and I hope that this win helps him to heal and get back to riding with Dan. Uncle Johnny says that both Leroi and Dan are freaks, grand ole chestnut freaks. Maybe little big man 13Z will turn out to be an ole chestnut racing freak too?
Max
Here’s the video. Good close up shots of Dan. This could be how 13Z might look when he grows up. Dan is a very handsome chestnut with a great blaze like 13Z. Dan’s dam sire was a gray, Wolf Power.

Keta
Keta Note; Mr Commons was third. Here’s the rest of the story
The Blood-Horse
Pre- and post-race antics did abound courtesy of two other starters, Mr. Commons and Skyring. The former dumped jockey Corey Nakatani before the start behind the gate; a valiant Nakatani did not release the reins and was quickly legged back up. The latter, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, unseated his rider after the race and was apprehended by an outrider in the chute. Neither Natkatani nor Napravnik were injured in their falls.

Dear Keta, Max and Z Fans:
Wow, a lot went on that we didn’t see in the Maker’s Mark. Glad no one was hurt, horses or riders. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. I looked at the race several times. At the beginning of the stretch, you can see Wise Dan turn his head to Data Link to challenge him. That Dan is one very determined racehorse. You cannot train that instinct to win into a horse. It’s all pure Dan. Fabulous. Wolf Power!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
You are so right. Can’t be taught. Some horses just naturally love the challenge. Wise Dan is certainly one of those. He IS fabulous! The great ones are, like Z. When she made up those 28+ lengths in the 2010 BCC, that was pure will and determination to win. Will never get over what a spectacular race she ran in that one. Hugs, JB
andrea
It’s enough to make one want to pour some Maker’s Mark! i think I will! A toast to Rosie and Corey! And WD, of course!
Max
JudyB. The 2010 BCC is the most exciting horse race that I have ever seen. I will never forget how I felt when Z started her run. Unbelievable. She is great.

Wow. Thanks goodness both jockeys and horses are safe. I didn’t think Mr. Commons had a history of acting up. Must have been that Kentucky spring weather.

YAY!! Go Wise Dan, you beautiful ole chestnut! He sure ran a good race, and Jose Lezcano gave him a fine trip so Johnny V. could relax and recover from his injuries.

Dear Sheena and Judy:
Must admit, I’m not thinking about Nelly today – just anxious that Hay List goes around safely. Glyn (the jockey) is very cautious regarding his form, and that concerns me a lot. So will be asking St Francis to keep a watch on the last to keep him safe.
Glad your weather is on the improve Sheena – my niece is out here on holiday with her 3 little girls – they live in London and are with my sister in Sydney and are just loving the warmth and the space to run and play.
Hugs to you both KathyR.
PS: we have a Canberra horse taking on Nelly – Onthelookout – trained by Barbara Joseph who is very much a local lady, so am hoping this chestnut travels safely (it has an American connection in the sire, Beautiful Crown).
Pati- Derby Dreamin'
I heard the Sydney jockeys are quite critical of the way the Melbourne jockeys were running the races against Black Caviar. I read some of their quote in one of the Australian websites, and they sound really gung-ho about beating her. I hope this firey spirit doesn’t result to foul play. I understand being competitive but let’s be classy as well gentlemen. If everyone runs their race, Nelly might have a test today.
I hope Hay List comes out of this ok as well. If I could, I would scoop him up in a heart beat, so you let those connections know that I am looking for a good college horse here in the states. ;-) Once I work up some money of course.

O K, I’ve got a question for you.
What are we going to call Orfevre????
Ok I know Leroi and Wise Dan are called freaks. Let’s see, what about Orfevre…………
I just need to have a talk with Orfevre about letting these Filly’s beat HIm. Maybe this year will be different……….Go Orfevre

The O Fever? ;-) It’s caught you and quite a few others here.
Peggy (N) South Georgia (PUR)
Just love this boy. Looking so forward to seeing him race again. He’s really making grand sire Sunday Silence proud. Love this family
Max
Peggy (N). You’re right. Orfevre may be just too nice to fillies. Moonlight Cloud, who almost beat Black Caviar at Ascot, ran against Wise Dan in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, but Dan as usual stormed home to win. The best of Europe male or female were no match in that race for Dan. BTW it was Uncle Johnny who called Leroi and Dan freaks duing an interview at the end of the Woodbine Mile last fall. Johnny V loved Leroi and he loves to ride with Dan.
Ann NC
Max, did you read about,Contessa and his Bad Hombre?

Do you think he’s letting these girls intimidate HIm. Win or loose he’s just great.
Max
Peggy (N). They say that he’s a quirky horse with a mind of his own. It might just have been some bad luck in those races. He seems now to be back on track. I checked, but have not seen anything definite yet on his next start other than to say that the goaI is the Arc. The Big O really is gorgeous.

Congratulations to Wise Dan for his victory in the Makers Mark Mile today. He really looked good. I was there today and Ashton was in town, so we met and really hit it off. I was looking at some ArchArchArch foals today, and I found a big boy that was 150lbs! He had legs as long as his mom, and he had casts on his back legs. Is that normal for extra-big babies?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Pati:
Wow, that is one big baby. Maybe Zenyen or Laura J. would know about the casts. Seems to me though, it might be more than just the size of the foal. 13Z weighed in at 145 lbs. and he didn’t have them. Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Pati, Think I have read somewhere that if they are born with really crooked legs, they sometimes put casts on them. Don’t know if this is correct.
Janet Newman
Bigger foals can have issues since there is less room to move around and the tendons not as relaxed . Common problem from what I have learned watching the foalings at Winstar and their staff letting us know. I am sure Lane’s End and others deal with this as well.
Splints go on and takes care of the problem.

Has anyone watched the Belmont with Seattle Slew? He just kept drawing away when anyone came up to him; what a horse to carry his speed so far. I’m glad that he has sired other sires to carry that will to win. He was one tough horse!!
I am starting to get really worried about not hearing about Zenyatta and he new little prince. They said they were going to be visiting with her last weekend, and there would be more pictures. They have been very forthcoming in sharing her with us during preparing for big races, and with the birth of her first little prince; this is just not like them. It is making me very nervous, especially after what happened to Rachel Alexander. The only thing I can think of, is that they are trying to get her ready to breed her again, and if she isn’t ready to breed soon, it will be too late. Some have been a little critical of breeding her too much, so maybe they don’t want to tell us why. All I know, is that I’m getting scared; I don’t understand, they brought her into our lives; I know they know how much we love her!!!!
