We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Many of you have asked and unfortunately Lava Man will not be accompanying Goldencents to Churchill.
Their two personalities are too similar and they don’t blend well. I know everyone would love to see them together, but its not going to work out.

Close Hatches looked fantastic when I saw her on Saturday! I have pictures of her too! She didn’t break a sweat in the Gazelle. I was very impressed. She strutted back and was floating all the way to the winner’s circle.

Just heard on the news Annette Funicello passed away. Those of us older posters will remember her on the Mickey Mouse show and from a lot of the beach blanket movies. She was a long time sufferer of MS. RIP Annette, a lot of pleasant memories you gave. us. hugs

Absolutely. Was just coming here to post the news. She and Margaret Thatcher were, each in their own very different ways, role models for girls, RIP, dear ladies.

I never missed the MM Club TV show. Annette was my favorite – in fact, I think I wanted to BE Annette Funicello. My mom was also diagnosed with MS at an early (40) age and lived to be 77, so I know first hand what heart-breaking loss of abilities MS sufferers can go through. Rest in peace, lovely Annette.

Dear Annette RIP, you were wonderful, will never forget you.

I just heard this very sad news. I remember as a little kid marching around in my living room to the tune of the Mickey Mouse Club. I too never missed a show!
In later years I saw an interview with Annette, and she said that what she missed most of all was dancing!!!!
So sad we lost an American icon!

Dear Sue and other Z’sters,
So sorry to hear of Annette Funicello’s death. I, too, was a faithful Mickey Mouse Club viewer and a fan of Annette’s. I remember well the theme song, particularly the closing:
M-I-C: See you real soon; K-E-Y: Why? Because we love you; M–O–U–S–E.
Also, enjoyed the various beach movies — fun and sweet.
Thanks for the memories — you were talented and very courageous.
RIP Annette, our wonderful Mouseketeer and beloved part of my childhood.

dear max and Z fans not much news about ryan mania he’s still in hospital awaiting a MRI scan expected tomorrow he’s tweeted it’s boring so must be getting better!! same news about JT keeping very positive his cousin Andrew was talking about him last Saturday it will be a long road to recovery.
I almost expected to see hovis take part in the grand national he wants to do so many things don’t think that would have worked with Karen’s dodgy hip anyway we all know his thoughts on TB’S!!!!hugs sheena

Sheena. Hovis has made it very clear that he can jump, so that one might expect an appearance at the Grand National someday with or without Karen. TBs will have to stand aside.
Glad to hear some good news about Ryan and JT. Really hoping that JT can recover to be able to walk and ride again.

A Poem of Gratitude and Prelude
(April 8, 2013)
I wish sincere thanks to send
To all who
Kind words of praise
My way did send
For poems I posted the week
Of the final phase
Of our crazed foal watch days.
I’ll never pretend
To profess
That I don’t your approval seek,
And I hope I’ll no one offend
With the poem I to this one append,
And I guess
I especially that remark address
To you,
Dear Sheena of Wales,
For one of the following tales
Features your own beloved Princess,
Whose story for me
Does never grow stale.
Without further ado,
I commend
The following poem of a princess and a queen
To you,
And to Dmama and Shirleeinindy
For reasons which you’ll have seen
In their comments on page thirteen.

The Second-Born Offspring of a Princess and a Queen
(April 8, 2013)
The Queen’s recent
Blessed event
At Lane’s End,
Which Team Z
Did so graciously
With us share,
Seems to me reminiscent
Of another line of royal descent
Which, more distant
In space and in time,
Nonetheless comes to my mind
As being of a somewhat similar kind.
I personally was a great fan o’
The fair
Princess Diana,
Who gave her nation
Two noble sons,
Prince William and then Prince Harry–
Her countrymen
Were indeed merry
To have their “heir
And the spare”
And engaged in great celebration.
This side of the ocean,
We Z-sters have our dear Queen,
The incredible mare
Who commands our love
And in our hearts does reign supreme.
As said above,
She—never one to be outdone—
Now has also born a second noble son.
If we take a notion
The second sons further to compare,
We see that like Diana’s Har’,
The second son
Of our beloved Thoroughbred mare
Has come
With red hair.
Perhaps both second sons
Will some day
Turn gray.
But should 13Z a red-head
Stay,
It would not us surprise,
As Z-sters Dmama and Shirlee have said,
If, when his turn
On the track to run
Has come
And he all
With his races should awe,
This Thoroughbred
Could be one
Again to earn
The moniker Big Red
And be highly prized
Like the two
Who
Proudly carried it
Before–
The kingly Secretariat
And the great Man O’ War.
Countless hearts they stirred!
Could 13Z be
Big Red the Third?

Love them Trina ….great job

Hi Trina:
I love the poem. Just think, Zenny’s first born is very special because 12Z was her first born. But her second son is also very special because not only is he her son, which automatically makes him very special, but 13Z was born on her birthday making his arrival a very special birth!!!!!
Now when Zenny’s third foal arrives, they will be special because maybe the foal will be a filly
!!!! Zenny is due to have a filly now!!
Take care.

Derby Dozen – April 9, 2013 – Presented by Shadwell Farm

Steve Haskin’s Derby Dozen
http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/kentucky-derby-dozen/archive/2013/04/08/derby-dozen-april-9-2013-presented-by-shadwell-farm.aspx
I particularly like lucky number 7. Here is what Steve had to say about him
War Academy Bob Baffert
Giant’s Causeway—Cabbage Key, by A.P. Indy
Pulling this one out of left field, despite the fact he’s behind the eight-ball and is a big lazy horse with not a lot of racing foundation. But I feel he’s going to run big in the Arkansas Derby. Watched his last race several times and was very impressed with the way he won and the way he moves. Remember, Manando, the horse he just cruised by with little effort, gave Goldencents all he could handle in the Sham Stakes (98 Beyer), and he came home in :23 4/5, :24, and :06 2/5 eased up. What I also love about him is how he takes after his sire and most of all his broodmare sire, running low to the ground. His stride is extremely reminiscent of A.P. Indy and rightly so. His dam is inbred 3×4 to Gay Missile, who is the great-granddam of A.P. Indy and granddam of Mayville’s Magic, who was bred to A.P. Indy to produce War Academy’s dam. So, you’ve got A.P. Indy’s great granddam close up twice in his female family. Also, I love the fact that in the year of Secretariat’s 40th birthday, this colt is inbred three times to Big Red through super mares Terlingua (dam of Storm cat), Weekend Surprise (dam of A.P. Indy), and Secrettame (dam of Gone West). Many questions, but I’ll take a shot with him.

We love, love, love the new photo of our little guy. He has the cuteness factor big time!
We are thrilled he and Zenny are doing well. And, our “Prince” is certainly not forgotten. Soon he will begin his serious training, hopefully with the Mayberrys.

So sorry about Flashback. ..SO much can happen between now and then. Keep those hooves crossed for all of the horses and their men AND women.
And yes, how about Lava Man keeping the home fires burning! Good for Doug for recognizing they would not be good travel/coaching mates. As has been said, he can keep the local youngsters in line.
Happy birthday DMCQ!! You are indeed a jewel among jewels. Thanks for what you do. Trina, I agree 100% with Darlene Daniels, you are indeed The Queen of Poetry.
