We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Hi Sweet Zenyatta and new mama! How much rest are you getting lately? You are such a wonderful mom and 13z is a lucky boy. Z, you are the gentle mare we all love. I have news to tell you about our Horse Sanctuary at Cedar Valley. We had a problem with Sir, and he was separated. Since our last meeting this past Thurs. the head people are willing to work with him, have a further thorough check on him by a vet that has known him, and one person for now will handle him. I just love you Z so much, that my love for the horse awakened again; and so I volunteered without much experience with hands on with the horse. My friend on this post paying for a half session for me with a horse communicator, made them stop and think. They are giving him a chance and one person right now is working, lunging again. So far so good!
We are also lucky to have gained a very experienced and educated horse person with a very heavy accent to our program named Ute. She has her business nearby. With the problems they are having with Sir, she is bringing us to teach some things and we will meet at her at her equestrian farm nearby. This will be interesting because I don’t know if Sir considers me just a friend or respects me. After our training at Ute’s place I will find out when we handle Sir back at our place two days later. When I handle Sir I am going to softly say, “Let’s show them what a good boy you can be”.
After this, a day later, a head horse person will bring Sir back to the herd. Please pray that he will not be aggressive nor show any teeth to the volunteers!! Please let him see we can be trusted. I love him; but not even close to loving you Zenyatta!!!
Zenyatta you gave me all the confidence and desire to help other horses.
All you Zsters will you pray too!?
hugs to the Zsters, Sally B

Dear Max, Peggy, Marshall, Ann, Vicki B, Sue Fredrick and Z Fans:
Got back from the farm a little while ago. All the horses returned from a two hour trail ride at 4:00 PM. GG and HT loved it. Charlie didn’t like the wind (it was quite windy today) so Angela just road him in the ring. All of them enjoyed their carrots and mints.
No mini foal yet, but very close.
The news on GG is that she may be going to college. Katie, who has been riding and caring for GG, has been accepted to an Equestrian college in upstate New York. She’s asked Angela if she can take GG with her. Angela just wants to make sure that Katie can handle the college boarding fees and she will let GG go. It’s a four year college and GG will be there for 10 months and then back at the farm for two months, until school opens again. So she’ll be going back and forth. Will let you know if it all works out. Our College Girl; how exciting. Hugs, JB

Dear Judy
Sounds like a nice day at the farm. I don’t blame Charlie the wind can be quite bad at times. I remember my Holly would be so scared sometimes at the wind. I think she thought something was going to fall down on her.
Is Lola Mae doing ok too, I hope she is doing well too.
I just read on Bloodhorse that Vyjack was still on track for the derby. I am so glad I really like him. I posted on the previous page so forgive me for posting twiice but I was reading up on him and he sounds like quite a charactor.. They said when they first starting to train him that he was throwing “Everyone Off’
They said they “Had” to geld him. I think an emphasis on that.
Too funny. (Although, I bet not too funny to the person trying to ride him. Lo
Pati , on the previous page said he looked ferocious in the post parade yesterday. Just too cute.
It’s just getting so exiting the Derby’s not too far away now.

I don’t know her name yet, but she’s terribly afraid of people. She was saved by a kind lady and she may be in foal. We don’t know yet, but we hope that this is not the case, as she is in no shape to have a baby.

For all of you who just read my last post, and want Hollywood Park to remain open, voice your opinions to the TOC, Inglewood City Council, and anybody you can think of linked to that project and to horse racing. The track may close at year’s end, but that does not mean we have to keep quiet about it.

Karen Gogue
A good question Judy! I have not heard anyhing as to whether it was resolved.
AJ from CA
Karen- thanks for the info/links to save HP – I would really hate to see this beautiful park with it’s great racing history plus being Z’s home and Barn 55 go down for another mall of which the area has way too much of. I will indeed make my voice heard in favor of saving it and hope others do the same.
Karen Gogue
What I worry about is when (if) Hollywood Park closes, what will happen to the horses if barns can not be found, especially for the claiming horses? I know some will ship out to other states and tracks around the country, but one has to worry. I hope whoever is going to oversee (yeah right, good luck with that one!) this will keep a close eye on all the transition that will be taking place. It will be a nightmare if someone doesn’t! And I suppose we will never know …
A statement from Southern California Horse Racing blog: “If you want Hollywood Park to remain open, voice your opinions to the TOC, Inglewood City Council, and anybody you can think of linked to that project and to horse racing. The track may close at year’s end, but that does not mean we have to keep quiet about it.” And I agree.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Karen:
That is a very real concern. Hopefully, owners and trainers will contact rescues, Canter and other placement organizations to make sure the horses are safely placed. Absolute cause for concern. Hugs, JB
Karen Gogue
What I don’t understand about people is this: If the casino next door on the Hollywood Park lot can draw a full house almost 24/7, then it can NOT be the neighborhood that has racing fans staying away. I am so weary of some people saying they are ‘scared’ ‘afraid’ to go to HP, yet the parking lot if full most days for the casino gambling!
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
Will definitely try to save Hollywood Park. Thanks for the link, Karen.
Linda in NJ
This is such a shame. I hope it can be worked out. HP has so much history and it is a beautiful park. I hope they can get some real money to come in a back it so it will remain open.
Another thought is, if people are afraid to go to HP because of the surrounding neighborhood, what makes anyone think the area would suitable to build a shopping mall!

It’s our dear DMCQ’s birthday! She doesn’t post here so often these days because she is busy with her duties as Senior Vice-President for Equi-Army No Days Off (EAN), the horse welfare group that was started by people who first got to know each other on Zenyatta.com back when it was the site of Zenyatta’s Diary.
A Birthday Poem for Doris McQuiddy
(April 8, 2013)
Our dearest Doris
Is a horse advocate most glorious,
And I my cap to her doff!
She early on did enlist
In the officer corps
Of Equi-Army No Days Off
To promote equine welfare
On the track and everywhere
And especially to insist
That horses no more
Go to slaughter.
With her EAN cohorts,
Doris the BLM does resist
And supports
Demands in state and federal courts
That the BLM desist
From doing what it shouldn’t oughta,
For the BLM has long committed
Inhumane actions, by law not permitted.
Determination does course
Through her veins
When Doris takes up the reins
In an advocacy campaign
Like this for the mustang,
With the goal to see
That the few who still remain,
Like the famed stallion Cloud,
Be by the BLM allowed
To live in their dwindling herds,
Wild and free.
With the powerful force
Of her eloquent words,
Doris speaks up for the horse
In many an e-mail and letter,
Always fighting to make
Horses’ lives better
And save them from a cruel fate.
Dearest Doris,
Whatever of you is asked,
You willingly take on the task,
Though it be truly laborious,
And I know you’ll not stop
Till we are victorious.
Now, dearest Doris,
We raise
Our voices in your praise,
And for you sing
A rousing
Happy Birthday chorus!
Happy birthday, Doris, and many, many more!
maureen phi-llips
