We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Motion, Team Valor part ways
Published on Friday, 05 April 2013 11:38 Joe Clancy
Trainer Graham Motion and Barry Irwin’s Team Valor International – the team behind 2013 Dubai World Cup and 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom – will soon part ways, according to a statement released today by the racing syndicate.
Team Valor horses will remain in Motion’s care through April, with private trainer Rick Mettee taking over May 1. Mettee, a longtime assistant/trainer with Godolphin Racing, will move into the Team Valor barn at Fair Hill Training Center, where Motion will maintain his public stable in his Herringswell Stables barn. As part of the agreement, Motion will continue to train Animal Kingdom through his planned start at England’s Royal Ascot meeting in June.

Dear Keta:
Glad GM will continue to train AK for Ascot. Think he did so many right things with this horse. Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
What in the world brought this about? I would think Team Valor would be delighted with GM. Is it the association with Godolphin?
Keta
shirleeinindy
Team Valor wanted Graham Motion as a “private” trainer.
Meaning he would only train for them. He would have to give up his other horses.
Graham decided that he would rather stay as a “public” trainer.
That way he can work for any owner/stable.
I think it is a good decision for him.
And, Team Valor knows what he has done for/with Animal Kingdom.
So, it makes good business sense to keep Graham with him.
That is the way I interpret what I have been reading.
Hugs, Keta
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Agree with you, Keta. I also think that Barry may have been looking for a trainer whose philosophy is more in line with his concerning certain aspects of the current state of the sport as it relates to medication policies. Barry has been very outspoken — for a sampling of some of his dialog, he posts frequently at The Paulick Report, “live” and “unedited”! Motion is a very reputable trainer and to my knowledge has had no infractions, however, he does subscribe to 2 yr olds being given lasix. Irwin has been very outspoken against this. This may have no bearing on the recent decision, but one can’t help but wonder about it.
shirleeinindy
Thanks for the insight, Keta.

Keta; Animal Kingdom has sure performed!!! I believe one of the radio people here, Mark Beling has an interest in Animal Kingdom through Team Valor. He is really into it and goes of course to the races such as the Derby in 2011. I have not been listening lately so I do not know if he went overseas. Ironic though. If you are a big radio personality they must be able to earn some good money to invest!
Glad to see the trainer staying with him. hugs, Sally B

The Queen will appear in winning pedigrees for decades to come if her sons go on to stellar careers of their own. 13z is huge, can’t wait to see more pictures.
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
I wish the best futures for our Zenyatta’s sons, but along the way a filly would be nice; to become an eventual broodmare would be awesome too!!!

Sprinter Sacre makes it 9 straight over fances
The Associated Press – 43 minutes ago
AINTREE, England (AP) — Sprinter Sacre beat a top-class field in the Melling Chase at the Aintree Festival on Friday, taking his unbeaten run over fences to nine.
Running his first race over 2 1/2 miles, the 1-3 favorite cruised along under jockey Barry Geraghty before taking the lead by jumping the next-to-last fence. He passed Cue Card to win by about five lengths.
Sprinter Sacre has become the superstar of British horse racing since the retirement of the unbeaten Frankel last year.
He was the third straight favorite to win on the second day of the festival, after My Tent Or Yours (4-11) in the Novices’ Hurdle and Dynaste (9-4) in the Novices’ Chase.

Max
Keta. Very impressive jumping by SS. I am sorry to hear that Mad Moose refused to start. He is a grand ole chestnut. Sheena can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Moose has done this before now. He’s called The Stubborn One? If he decides on something, that’s it. No arguments allowed. Kind of like Big D.

Thanks Keta for the replay video. SS is wonderful.
Now this Mad Moose. Good thing I was not around any betting windows!
I always play a name, when it has a special meaning for me. MM was acting more like our bovine Moose. Glad he is OK. I would take MM in for a reading next time, make sure all of his Stars are aligned?

Congratulations Zenyatta on your second foal…a real beauty. I was wondering if the first foal was named and what it was. I have a Breyer statue but no name for him…so if there is one I’d be thrilled to give him a name. Thank you. :)
carol in arkansas
no name yet…probably not to next year if the Mosses do what they have in the past…seems they wait til almost racing time and give the youngster time to develop so that when named …the name is appropriate to the personality of the horse…frustrating for us…but makes sense..for the horse will be known by the chosen name for 30+ yrs …we hope
Debbie Lawrence
Carol, Thank you for your answer. i’ll keep an eye and ear out so i don’t miss it. Spring is fabulous time for babies to be out on the grass playing. Can’t wait to see the new one out and about. Enjoy the spring. :)

Keta. Very nice to hear these personal comments about AK from his groom. Loved the way in which he was gazing at the cityscape. Handsome chestnut.
Here is another video about a groom and a champion horse, Irish hurdler, Hurricane Fly. Interesting that both grooms are women.

The Fly!
Thank you Max, I enjoyed meeting his groom.
Nice meeting of the minds w/ those two!
Max
Ann NC. The Fly is not a big horse, but he’s full of character. He looks all sweet and innocent just before he bites. Love the way that Willie Mullins uses cotton balls for the horses’ ears on racing day like John Shirreffs did with Zenyatta.

Congratulations to Zenyatta and team Z on the birth of a second colt.
She is a great Mom. I am not surprised that z13 is red, often a brunette and a blond produce a redhead. He sure is a cutie! I’ve been checking constantly for the Z13 birth announcement. Glad all went well for the Queen through labor and delivery. she sure is a trooper. Z13 was born on Zenyatta’s birthday, Z12 was born on MY BIRTHDAY, March 8.

dear max and judy sprinter was superb today 1st time over the longer distance was no problem for him he really is the frankel of the the jumping world it’s happened with mad moose before digs his hooves in quite funny really.
there was more sad news later in the topham little josh a popular chaser with nigel twiston-davies fell and fractured his shoulder and was put to sleep he runs free now across the rainbow bridge with all the old chasers who have gone before RIP little josh hugs sheena

Sheena. Very tragic news about Little Josh. RIP sweet horse.
I am quite worried about the Grand National after last year’s events and hope that the horses and riders all get home safely. Maybe Mad Moose is not so mad at all and did the right thing?

LOVE these photos but (sorry to be greedy LOL!) would like to see some new ones!
I am certain Our Queen and Blaze/Z13 (I am STILL going to call him Blaze until he gets a real name!!!!!) have been out in the pasture by now (weather permitting of course). Can’t wait to see some “outdoor” shots!
I sure do see a lot of gray/white/light colored hairs on this little guy (ears, shoulders, even tail) and his legs are light colored too. I am not convinced he isn’t going to “gray out”. But chestnut or gray/roan he is adorable and is going to grow up to be just as handsome as his Big Brother (who ALSO still needs a name LOL!)

LATEST FROM THE VAULT: Here you go, Dumplings. Very hard to write but worth the effort. Gallant Fox is an amazing horse that few chose to write about, hence the need to go through “the back door” to get the kind of narrative that VAULT readers love! I hope you enjoy it!

Pati- Throwing Out My Pacing Rugs :-)
The more punctuation you feel you need to use, the less you can actually contribute to a coherent and intelligent conversation for/against horse racing. Please, that’s not even remotely the case for the Derby. 95% of the attendants are average fans, and not the rich. I promise not everyone drinks the whole time either.

Black Caviar news:
Peter Moody, interviewed by TVN in Sydney for the Slipper, said the condition of the track would determine whether or not Black Caviar will race next weekend. He said if it was too heavy he would have no hesitation in scratching her, despite the disappointment this would cause to fans, but his priority is the welfare of the horse. Good for you Pete!
