We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Dear Linda in NJ
With your question on previous page about if Ak Would be here next Jan through June. I would think so Coming back for First of 2014 untill probably June.
I say this because one of the ladies told me at Darley, see Bernardini leaves Lexington in July for the Southern Hemisphere (Australia) Season and comes back in October or so. Back in time for the Northern Hemisphere season in Lexington starting first of the year here.
I was in Lexington a few years ago in October and I went to Darley. Wanted to see Bernardini but he was in Quarantine as he was just back in from Australia and no one could see him untill he was out of Quarantine. I was so sad, I missed him, but no one could see him yet. But, they are really good about letting you see the stallions.
This was just unfortuante, but I understood that this was a very important issue that couldn’t be gotten around. I so hope to get back to see him one day and Definately Animal Kingdom too. LOl, Peggy
Linda in NJ
Hi Peggy:
Oh, that is really too bad. I know how you feel because I am planning a trip to Ky. in June, and the very weekend I am going Darley has that Friday blocked off. They suggested that I call back in the beginning of June to see if it reopened. So maybe, but it doesn’t look too good. Very disappointed.
Anyway I am so happy to hear that AK will be in Ky. Maybe I’ll get to see him someday too!
Thanks for letting me know.

Regarding the issue of roan TB’s. I do not believe my mare was a blue roan, which is why I was confused as to why she was registered as one. I looked up Lucky Chappy and his coloring is very similar to what my mares was but she was much darker, almost black with lots of gray dappling. Unfortunately I did not get to see her grow old because she had to be put down when she was only 8 because she had a severe case of colic that would have required surgery and I simply could not put her through that or afford the procedure. When she was born she was black with some gray. By the time she was a yearling she was still mostly black but with lots of gray dappling. As she aged she got lighter and by the time she was put down she was a beautiful gunmetal gray color. I believe that if she had lived longer she eventually would have become a true gray.
Kelli
I’m sorry to hear you lost her. Colic is hard, colic surgery is harder.
So she would simply have been a gray. The Jockey Club does not know its horse colors for anything – if they call it a roan, it’s a gray. If it’s black, they will call it brown even if you prove it’s black.

Went back and looked at Rachels’ foal again. Maybe we have a hope for a chestnut there.
Love the way Zenny looks as if she is saying “What’s the big deal?” She looks as if she just left the spa not just given birth.
From the wording in the post, it seems that Ann and Jerry have left Kentucky already so that must mean she and baby are doing very well.
Still wondering about Royal Delta and if she came out of the race okay. No word anywhere that I have found.
zenyen
Both Rachel’s filly and her colt are bays.
Z13 is chestnut.
Sara
“…as if she just left the spa not just given birth.”…lol…too true!
It must feel even better than a day at the spa to suddenly lose 145+ pounds! Did Z even bother lying down to give birth, or is it just that her hairdresser was standing by the whole time, so that no shred of straw could cling? :D
zenyen
Foaling is a very natural but also a very MESSY process.
Rather than alarm people, Zenyatta was obviously cleaned up post foaling before these pictures were taken.
DmamaKlock
Mabe…………. this little guy will be the new BIG RED? The looks of Secretariat and Z’s blaze. Just adorable and many thanks for the postings and pictures. Penny Chenery needs to see this one.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
13Z’z blaze looks nothing like Secretariat’s. Secretariat had a diamond-shaped star and a white strip, both quite symmetrical. 13Z is the same color, though. His blaze reminds me of Rags to Riches’s blaze.
DmamaKlock
Meant that his blaze looks similar to his mom.
shirleeinindy
Dmama I am with you in the hope of another Big Red. From what others are saying on the Blog he going to be a gray. That blaze reminds me a bit of Shackleford. Guess Animal Kingdom will have to be our Big Red for now.

To All the Dumplings who sent lovely messages regarding the passing of my beloved cat Daize…..”Thank You from the bottom of my heart”. Even though it was so hard to read all of your kind and loving words, I did, and felt a small amount of peace and comfort.
@Keta: Thank you for the link to the Rainbow Bridge Poem and site, it was so very difficult to read, the Poem is so beautiful, but the letter from a cat to it’s owner hit me the hardest, I had to read it in pieces. It talked about letting go and not to let him/her suffer to be kind when the time comes, It felt like my Daize wrote it especially to me. However, after finally getting through the whole letter and the tears that flowed endlessly, I felt so much better, like a weight had been lifted, I would NEVER EVER want a pet of mine to suffer for my own selfishness. Again “thank you” it helped in so many ways.
My Prayer for all sick animals: “May the hands that brought you home be the same hands that deliver you to heaven”.
Yesterday was a tough day, making it worse it was my Birthday, since celebrating was out of the question my best friend and I will celebrate on Saturday with a trip to the casino for some fun, lunch, and to watch the Derby Prep races!
With Love and sincere gratitude to all for your kind words and loving thoughts

Dear girlsaratoga,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your lovely cat Daize, may her soul rest in Perfect peace. Am a cat lover myself and I know how you must be feeling. I still remember the first time I fell in love with cats, I was 7 years old and our cat had just had a litter of kittens and I just had this overwhelming love for her when I saw her with her kittens. May the good Lord make it easy for you each passing day. Remain Blessed.

I hope you have an enjoyable day w/ your friend,GS.

Here is the video of the final stages of that race. It is a Z week! Zarkandar ran very well.
Take a look at the gray, Thousand Stars, a very handsome horse like Tapit.
Paul Nicholls, Zarkandar’s trainer said that he will move Z up to 3 miles in the future. Nicholls is the former trainer of Kauto Star, and the jockey, Ruby Walsh, rode Kauto. He also is the jockey of the great Irish jumper, Hurricane Fly.

Ann NC. That beautiful gray, Thousand Stars, is trained by Willie Mullins, who also trains the backside biter, champion hurdler, Hurricane Fly, and the super mare, Quevega. When asked about Stars’ third place run, Mullins said that he was happy with how the horse ran. Stars looked good in that race. I love that gray horse. He’s 9 like Z.
Ann NC
Thanks Max.
Mullins is an incredible trainer and wonderful man. 9…WOW!!!! 9 and they are just warming up, incredible, great athletes.
