We know you’ve all been waiting for more photos!
Team Z and Lane’s End are proud to share these images from the birth of Zenyatta’s second colt. Based on the response we’ve received, it seems that the world is as excited as we are.
We had a spectacular day on the farm, and we are saying our goodbyes for now. Mom and her little one are now relaxing, bonding, and spending some quiet time alone.
There are still more photos from this trip to come. We’ll post again soon with news about 13Z and his older brother!
Enjoy!

Queen Z looks well and Baby Z is beautiful. We miss her so much. I think she is a once and a lifetime horse and I was so very glad to have been able to see her. She inspired so many people and really is a Queen. Hope everything goes well. God Bless!

Lovely colt and mum photos! I have taught my dog to dance with her front legs when I say “Zenyatta”, she gives me first one front paw then the other in a dancing motion, a bit like Zenyatta on her way to the post! Amazing horse, adorable baby.

Good Morning Zenny….hope you and little TapDancZen are doing well…have a quiet restful day…he is tall isn’t he?
…..
Hi BigManZ….hope you and your friends have a glorious day …play hard…school in your future…
…..
Help please…I thought a Roan had dark head legs mane and tail…body different color…also that Tb don’t have “roan gene” except for a single family in Australia possibly ….am I confused again?
….
Everyone have a great day
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
True roans do have a dark head and legs, with lightening on the body. The Jockey Club designation of Gray/Roan is a misnomer. Excepting the few roans in Australia, all TBs described as gray/roan are just gray. As they gray out, many of them pass through a stage where they are roan-like in appearance, with white hairs interspersed with the colored ones. But they don’t stay that way.

What a blessing, and to be born on her birthday. What a fantastic present. May he be as special as his mother. Congratulations to the the Moss’s and Lanes End.
Brandy James
He is so darn cute. I have been waiting for the day he was born. I love his markings and color. His face markings are similar to Zenyatta’s. He is just so adorable. Congradulations Zenyatta.

What a wonderful group of pictures…Z is as beautiful as ever…motherhood certainly agrees with her. Z13…welcome to the world, your mama has done good. Papa Tapit deserves some credit, sent him well wishes earlier. Thank you for making our lives that much better now that you have arrived. Looking forward to more pictures.
Question?? Will Z13 ever meet his brother Z12???
Zenyen
No.
Despite the romance of the idea, Z12 has no way of knowing or understanding any sort of family relationship to Z13.
Z12 would be a danger to Z13 due to his size and the fact that as a young stud colt he plays rough. Were Z12 to come near Z13, Zenyatta would scold him quite firmly.
By the time Z13 is weaned and a yearling/of a size to play with the big boys, Z12 will be on his way to the training farm in FL and then on to the track.
The closest Z12 and Z13 are ever likely to get would be eye to eye in a starting gate.

Thanks Laura J..
I also found an Internet article “Winning Colors is not a Roan”…it explains the traditional definition of roan and how the jockey club’s definition differs from it….
it also shows some pictures of the Australian family which is the only known exception to the general rule about no roan Tb….
It seems the traditional view is based on genetics and the JC view is based on color

Here’s a link to a picture of one of the few roan TBs, in case anyone’s interested:

Thanks Laura. This whole color/genetics discussion has been an eye-opener for sure. This may be easier for others to figure out, but if you’re checking the link folks, you need to scroll down to Slip Catch and her daughter Lillac. Somehow I was expecting a horse that had more of a red cast so this was very informative.
Kelli
There is a colt named Pink Floyd who is roan with a chestnut base. Slip Catch, Lilac Hill, and Lavender Fields are all bay roans so they are darker, almost purply looking. Pink Floyd is a traditional red or strawberry roan.

Dear Dumplings:
Came her this morning to look at new beautiful life just beginning, because as of this suppose to be a celebrated morning, my sweet cat Daize Mae died around 4:30am after 18 1/2 years with me.
To say the least my heart is broken into pieces, even though I knew it was coming for several days. (still doesn’t make it any easier) Because I knew the end was so near I stayed with her all day and nite until this am, I couldn’t bare for her to be alone, Thanks to God and St Francis it was a very peaceful and pain free death, and I am so grateful for that for both of us.
Baby 13Z is so cute, was shocked to see his coloring and the huge blaze!
Best of luck to mom and new baby, she looks FABULOUS!

Dear Girl Saratoga:
So sorry for the loss of you beloved Daize Mae. It’s always devastating, even when they have been ill for a while, to see them go. Yes, thank God and St. Francis that she passed peacefully and without pain. Hugs, JB

GS, I am so, so sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty! I lost my sweet Buddy Braveheart dog, my best friend in the world, last year right before Zenyatta had Z12. I almost could not come to this place because I felt guilty being excited for something after having my heart crushed by his loss. However, everyone here and Zenyatta helped me realize that life goes on. I still miss him every single day and still look for him. However, I was dragged to a shelter by my daughter, against my will, a month later, and came home with a precious little german shepherd mix girl who has done wonders for my heart when I didn’t think I could love another dog. So between everyone here, Queen Z, and my new little girl, my heart is healing again. I am so sorry that you are going through this pain but the joy here over 13Z and the fans will help you so much, I promise.
Max
Louise. I have a soft spot for you, Keta, Heidi, Sierra, Ruffian and all of the others who kept such a loyal vigil for the arrival of 13Z in the Waiting Room. That kind of love and devotion to Zenyatta is quite wonderful to see. The best to all of you.

Thank you Max, We have had so much fun losing sleep over there! You know I have a soft spot for you, we all do! I look forward to everything you have to say! Also, I love how much you love Big D! I so enjoyed the videos you posted on a previous blog of Dynaformer, especially the one where the lady kept saying “wow”! He was surely imposing. I would have loved to see him in person! Thank you for those.

GS. Sorry that you have this grief to bear. It is very hard to say goodbye to a much loved friend. Hoping that the birth of the new wonder foal will bring some comfort to you. Thinking of you, GS.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear GS,
I can’t improve on what has already been said, but I am so sorry for the loss of your Daize Mae. I had a cat who lived nearly that long, and I think that losing her was the saddest day of my life. My advice is to let yourself cry it out – it makes your head stuffy, but the tears are very healing. Thinking of you.

Dear GirlSaratoga, I am so sorry to hear of your heartbreaking loss. I think from your previous posts that today may be your birthday. I had prepared a short poem for you, but now I am at a loss what to say except that our hearts go out to you. Hugz and love in Dumplinghood, Trina

Dear GirlSaratoga,
So sorry for the loss of your Daize Mae. It always hurts so much. Take comfort in the many memories and in the fact that you gave each other so much love and pleasure.
Take care and know that we are here for you. Hugs

Why would you have to have a chain on the mare? Can’t she just enjoy her newborn?
Ann NC
This was brought up on page 6. I would link it for you but my computer is playing tricks on me. I believe, Kelli offered a great explanation. Thank you,Kelli!!
One of our mares was so protective,we called her the eel. She would stick her head out from her stall everytime someone came close and pinned those ears back and teeth a showin! Thank goodness her foals had better dispositions.
Zenny is so very sweet w/ the staff and her foals. But a mother is a mother and there is always the if………
carolinarkansas
they answered that above…
its for protection for the foal and people…in case the mare should
1-reject the foal and try to harm it…z never would
2-become overly protective and attack people install…again z never would
seems like it is “standard procedure” just until everyone knows “all is well”
in Zenny’s case it may seem like “overkill” but mostly likely its “better safe than sorry”
this info was given many pages ago…so I hope that I have stated it well…anyone who can help clarify…please do
Brenda
Beautiful colt. wtg :D
Brenda
I luv the last picture the most. Such a massive healthy dam to grow her Tapit colt. Zenyatta shows off her size, her shiny coat health complete with dapples. Such power.
Randy
GirlSaratoga, I’m so very sorry about your beloved Daize Mae… it’s absolutely excruciating to lose a pet… they’re like our children. I hope and want to believe that we’ll meet them all again over Rainbow Bridge. I have a dearly loved horse that I lost 42 years ago who I hope is waiting for me. Thinking of her still makes me cry after all this time so I know it won’t be an easy road for you in dealing with your loss. You must have been a wonderful cat mom because 18 1/2 years sounds like a pretty amazing life for a kitty!
Hugs to you my friend.
Randy

Thanks for sharing the pictures. They’re awesome! The colt is adorable!

This is one beautiful baby. I can’t wait to see what he looks like after he goes “sprong” and fills out as the compression from the womb goes away. Looks like he will be going straight to light gray without a black ir dark gray interval.
