Happy New Year!
We’re beginning 2015 with a visit to Ocala, FL to check in with Ziconic. For the past few months he’s been learning the basics at Mayberry Farm, and we can’t wait to see him show off his new skills.
If you have a specific question for the Mayberrys about Ziconic or his training, ask it below. We’ll bring along some of our favorites!

There is so much I don’t understand about the world of thoroughbreds. I’m just so happy Zenyatta wound up with such a wonderful group of connections. To see her is to love her. I was a huge Blind Luck fan. The weather here has been grim. I did buy some climbing roses and clematis yesterday. I’ve always wanted a trellis on the end of the front porch. Pale pink roses and purple clematis. Hope that black thumb of mind stays away.

Vicki
Good luck with the flowers. You aren’t the only one with a black thumb. I do very well with petunias and marigolds, after that the “kiss of death.”

Dear Vicki:
Thank you for the visual of “Spring”. Starting to warm up a little here; in the 30s now. Love and Hugs, JB
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
Vicki, So happy you can think of flowers, in Wi it is the farthest thing from my mind. Your choice of flowers will be beautiful; as beautiful of the flowers as Zenyatta our horse is.
I am still learning about the thoroughbreds too.
hugs, Sally B

Thanks for the info. If you are there for that race, cheer for him a little bit even if you like someone else. Don’t expect him to win since he is coming off a very long layoff. But again, I didn’t think Lea would do it, but he did. Of course, Lea is a very special guy.

So happy ROC is back! I missed him and wish him all the best for Thursday.

He looks more and more like his site, Awesome Again! I wonder if he has mellowed since retiring to stud…he was known to be very ornery when he was racing. That willfulness probably saved his life!

Heard that in temperament Paynter has not changed a bit. His feisty nature also comes from his momma. She is a full sister to Tiznow.

They tried everything possible to save him. Very sad that there was no good outcome so that Nick could carry on the legacy of his sire. He was brave and noble throughout his long ordeal. Terrible loss for Coolmore.

January 14 Cherokee Devotional
Many trails lead away from the right path. Our feet wander far for answers to the same questions our old ones sang about and prayed over in the quiet of their own thoughts.
Do we have new problems? No, it is the same one, tsv s gi na, the enemy that tries to rule our thinking and actions. He comes dressed in circumstances that will entice us to his way. But he is still the same old enemy who keeps trying.
There is nothing new under the sun. The same devils that tried the souls of ancient men have a new vulnerable generation-and not enough are aware of the danger.
From here on I want to live in peace.

Max, Carol and Zfans,
Just read that, Beast is racing, April 9th in The Count Fleet Stakes! Yippeee!
Tony also noted that BB is even BIGGER but very fine. Lots of blankies now on sale, Beast, if you have outgrown yours from last year.
Happy racing, enjoy. Good luck, Tony.
Max
Ann NC. Before the Count Fleet, Beastie will be at Oaklawn. If he’s even bigger than last year, they may have to expand the size of the gates. Beastie, kick butt.
carol. Give us the details when The Beast appears. Also heard that Moonshine Mullin will be at the meet too. Sounds like it will be a great event.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ann:
Thanks for this info on The Beast. Godspeed beautiful boy. My gosh, he’s grown; can’t wait to see him. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
The Beast won a place last year in the BC Dirt Mile. He missed competing because of his ankle. Hoping that he has a good season this year. Also hoping for news of Big Trouble, and the Snake. The Snake is like Ebby in a way. Took him a long time to win but he’s doing better. His owners persisted with him as did Chad Brown. Ebby on the other hand started off well, but has had little success lately. Maybe she will make some progress this year. No matter what, I think that she is a beautiful runner.

Dear Kathy.Wise words from Geronimo,History always repeats itself. We certainly have’weather’ in the UK today.Snow in Scotland and we are expecting rain plus gales in the south. They had a tornado in Haverfordwest last night(that’s in the county next to mine)24 houses damaged.Lots of warnings out as you can imagine.Chepstow is off waterlogged but Ascot is very hopeful for Saturday.I have been on Miss Kitty she’s got 43000 friends! And then found the beauty that is Haven his brother Teddy had the OP this week some complications! He seems alright now.I’m sure Finn will be sorry to leave MM he’s having a great time there.I had leaky eyes again reading God’s message to Mango(He’s got a new phone)Zoe sent her a beautiful pink bow.I voted for Duke on Zoe’s page sad story about his owner how people especially youngsters can be so cruel amazes me.Great video on Joey of the Elephants enjoying their mud bath and loved seeing Larry sleeping in his litter box!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Stay safe in the bad weather! I did see that Miss Kitty reached 43,000. And Zoe is now at 12,500! Prayers that Teddy fully recovers quickly. Finn is just adorable. I know they will miss him a lot when he goes to his new home. I’m so glad they’ll be welcoming two new rats in March. Mango’s talks with God are very sweet. That was nice of Zoe and her mom to send a pink bow to Mango. I watched the elephant video on Joey’s page. They were just marvelous. Larry sleeping in the litter box was great. Sure hope they adopt another garden cat soon! Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

one word-YIKES That is brutal

Max
Only thing that disturbs my relentless trekking is freezing rain. Have to resort to yak trax for that. My friend’s horses stay out most of the day but they head into the barns after about 6 hours. The donkeys can tell the exact time to head in. You hear these guys coming from a long way off. Very vocal. They are guard donkeys. When they want dinner, they tell you.

Dear Max.You should know how we British love our weather!!!I have been watching some old Grand Nationals very muddy in 2001 only 2 completed the course.Have heard it’s very cold from Nissy not even a sun puddle there!!Keep warm if you can.It sounds brutal.Sheena.
Max
It is brutal especially trotting around my paddock at 5:30 am. Saw that the Danimal and Z had temps of 10 F the other day. That is nice. You get used to the cold if you are fully equipped with parkas etc. Got 4 of them for various shifts in the temps. This could be you? Don’t forget that Brit explorers pioneered expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Wow, you’re really in the “deep freeze”. Stay safe and warm my friend. Love and Hugs, JB
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Yes, we,Brits were great explorers in days gone by.I know you are up early in the mornings how on earth do you cope with those kind of temps?I am one of Dan’s “likes” on FB now and have wished him luck in the awards Saturday.Temps are about 48F here.I do recall a few winters ago they did go down to about -17 some nights.Look after yourself.Sheena.
Max
There is a company in Toronto called Canada Goose which makes parkas which are good to – 50. They are expensive but really worth it. They seem to be indestructible. Isn’t that Facebook for Danny a fan operated one? I left the Danimal a message on his answering machine. Hope that he wins, but even if they give those awards to others, Dan will always be the most interesting horse in the world. Kick butt, Danny.

Max, An acquaintance has a couple of donkeys, loves them!! She also says they eat far less than a horse. hugs, Sally B
Max
They make excellent guards to protect horses from predators. And they are smart too. If it is too cold, the donkeys will not leave the barn. The horses see this and do the same.
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
